P-996 LAZER In GTA 5

The P-996 LAZER in GTA V is designed to resemble the F-16C Fighting Falcon, with its cockpit, landing gears, and wings. It also has features from other fighter jets, such as the dual cannons on each side like the F-20 Tigershark and the forward swinging canopy from the F-35 and X-35.

The aircraft has a very aerodynamic design with a sharp nose, triangular-shaped wings with ailerons, and a single black jet turbine. The interior of the aircraft has a compact flight instrument panel, a large console with numerous switches, and two control sticks. The LAZER is only available in a light gray color with a subtle camouflage paint, and it comes equipped with dual cannons on each side and six radar-guided missiles.

The P-996 LAZER is a high-performance fighter jet, with a top speed of 170 knots / 316 km/h and excellent maneuverability. It has a short take-off and landing distance, making it an efficient aircraft for traveling quickly around San Andreas. However, the P-996 requires careful handling, as it is sensitive to minor inputs and is very fragile, with low durability compared to other aircraft.

The aircraft emits a distinctive sound when the afterburner is active. It is armed with dual explosive cannons that are effective against heavily armored targets, but have a limited range, and missiles that can be fired with or without lock-on, but have sub-par tracking. The P-996 does not have any flares or other countermeasures against locked-on missiles, making it vulnerable to attacks.

This aircraft cannot be modified.

Minor Turbulence - Two P-996 LAZERs appear in this mission when Trevor hijacks the Merryweather Cargo Plane giving a warning to take him down if he does not land the plane.

• Can be found parked or taxiing around Fort Zancudo.

• Can be found flying through Raton Canyon every in-game half hour.

• 996 is the in-game police codename for an explosion. It appears to be a coincidence, as all the vehicle's weapons are explosives.

• The P- prefix of the plane is possibly a reference to the older combat aircraft designation system of USAF where P- means "Pursuit", which was eventually replaced by today's F- for "Fighter".

• Lazers can sometimes be seen flying on patrol runs around Mount Chiliad. They will engage on the target if they are attacked.

• It is possible to take off the plane backwards by going reverse fast, then tilting down the jet's nose making it do a flip, then engaging the thrusters while airborne.
