A player can consume a Peyote plant when found. On consumption, a short cutscene plays in which the player is seen breaking it off and popping it into his mouth after which he will faint. When the player regains his consciousness he will find himself in the body of a random animal which is part of a hallucination. However, the player can freely move in the body of the animal. Land Peyote plants transform the player into either birds or animals whereas Peyote plants in the sea transform a player into sea creatures. While in the animal form, the player can interact with NPCs and even kill them, but their dropped money and/or items cannot be collected.
While in the form of a bird, the player can defecate and while in the form of a land animal, a player can make the sounds of the respective animal. When the animal dies or drowns, the player comes back to their senses and the hallucination effect ends. This hallucination can also be ended by the player using the designated button. While getting out of the hallucination, the player is seen flapping his wings or crawling on the ground like an animal. Even as an animal, a wanted level can be obtained which ends when the hallucination ends.
There are also special Golden Peyote plants which transform the player into a Sasquatch. They can be found in different locations on different days of the week.
