The Proximity Mine in GTA 5 is a rectangular brick-shaped explosive. It is military green in color and has a marking that says “01/B” below something that looks like the sensor that triggers the explosive. There is no light on the proximity mine, unlike the sticky bomb, which has a blinking light to indicate its location.
When thrown by a player, the proximity mine lands on a horizontal surface and is triggered when someone or something walks over it or passes close to it. It emits a beeping sound before exploding as a warning, but escaping it is impossible as it explodes very quickly after the sound. The proximity mine can easily take out cars and even heavier vehicles like trucks, making them immediately catch fire and explode. The player can carry only 5 at a time which might seem like a disadvantage in some situations. However, the Proximity mine is a really powerful weapon and can be used strategically to take out enemies and targets.
This weapon cannot be customized.
The Proximity Mine is unlocked for purchase at Ammu-Nation for $1,000 after completing the mission Friends Reunited.
In the original version, it became available in all three protagonist’s inventories after installing the Festive Surprise update.
Traditional real-life proximity mines or land mines are usually circular in shape whereas in GTA they are depicted as rectangular.
Proximity Mines have a small marking that reads "M228 B2". "M228" actually refers to a real-life training grenade.
Proximity Mines do not disappear even if the player goes far away or is killed. However, they will disappear if they attach their proximity mines on a vehicle that can despawn.
