The Railgun is a heavy weapon in GTA V manufactured by Coil. This weapon is an extremely quick and powerful heavy weapon and a great substitute for the Rocket launcher. It shoots metallic rounds with the help of an electromagnetic principle.

It deals serious damage exploding vehicles in almost an instant and is even very useful at long range with it capable of taking out helicopters at ease. However, portable railguns do not exist as it is an experimental weapon that only features in the enhanced version of GTA V on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Design and Performance

The railgun is a high-tech weapon with a military design created for experimental use. It has two long linear rails in front which are electrically powered. It has an advanced scope sight with a green triangle in the middle and the coil can be seen in the middle portion of the gun’s body.

The Railgun shoots metallic rounds at high speeds, faster than the speed of sound and takes out vehicles instantly in one shot. It has a very long range as well that can even take out aircrafts accurately and quickly. When shot on the ground, it causes an explosion causing damage in a very small radius. It is most effective on vehicles and the kinetic energy rounds of the railgun can be compared to that of the Rhino’s cannon.

Location

Can be bought from Ammu-Nation for $250,000 after completing the mission “Minor Turbulence”.
One can be found within the underwater wreckage of the cargo plane from Minor Turbulence, located north of Stab City.
Alternatively, the Railgun can be obtained if the protagonist commits suicide in the Ammu-Nation Shooting Ranges.

Trivia

The Railgun's power of "1.21 Gigawatts" is a reference to the Back to the Future film trilogy.
From November 18, 2014, to July 19, 2021, the Railgun was exclusive to returning players, but as of July 20, 2021, it is available for all players to purchase in GTA V, but not in GTA Online.
