Tao Cheng is a supporting character in GTA V who is the son of the Los Santos triads leader Wei Cheng. He can be first seen in the mission Trevor Philips Industries along with his translator when they come to meet with Trevor and later again in Crystal Maze. Richard Hsu lends his voice to Tao Cheng in GTA V.

Tao Cheng is the spoilt son of the leader of the Los Santos triads, Wei Cheng. He was born in Yangshan, China and is the firstborn son of Wei Cheng. His father always looks forward to teaching him the ways to run the business in the future. However, Tao Cheng doesn’t seem fit for the position and is always high and misbehaving, but his father still cares for him.
Tao Cheng first appears with his translator in the mission Trevor Philips Industries when he comes to take a look at Trevor’s meth lab so that the business deal between Trevor Philips Industries and the Los Santos Triads can be taken forward. However, the Aztecas attack Trevor’s meth lab at the very same time and Trevor is forced to hide Tao and his translator in the freezer close by.
Soon after this, when Trevor returns to the bar to talk to Tao Cheng and his translator, they tell him that the deal is off and they’re now dealing with the O’Neil brothers. In retaliation, Trevor goes and burns the O’Neil ranch.
At the end, Franklin can kill Tao Cheng when he kills Wei Cheng, however Tao Cheng’s death is a non-canon death as he later appears in GTA Online set in 2019.
Tao Cheng is seen dressed in a white shirt and dark brown formal trousers with a gray suit and gray sneakers. He also wears colored glasses when he meets Trevor for the first time. He is also seen wearing his red tie around his forehead with his shirt left out and the same trousers.

According to the Rush Casting Call, Tao's beta name was Tae Wong and he was addicted to ecstasy.
In the official traditional and simplified Chinese version, his name is 陳陶(陈陶) in Chinese. But his surname "陳(陈)" is possibly a translation error of the Chinese version, because "陳(陈)" pronounces "Chen" instead of "Cheng" in Mandarin Chinese, and “程" is more likely the correct surname, which is a Chinese surname and pronounced "Cheng", then his correct full name would be “程陶(程伟) ”.
Despite obtaining his personal phone number, Tao cannot be contacted by Trevor.
During the mission Trevor Philips Industries, when Trevor enters his Bodhi at the beginning of the mission, the radio will always be tuned to Soulwax FM and Tao will be dancing to whichever song is playing, suggesting that this could be his favorite radio station. He will also dance along if the radio is tuned to FlyLo FM or Non-Stop-Pop FM.
