The Jewel Store Job is a storyline heist mission in GTA 5 carried out by protagonists Michael De Santa and Franklin Clinton.
This is the mission where the main heist takes place after the preparation missions. There are two approaches to this heist - smart and loud. Michael has to choose the approach at the end of the mission Casing the Jewel Store. The escape after the heist is the same for both approaches and only the entry into the store is determined by the approach chosen.
Smart Approach - Michael and Franklin along with the crew leave for Vangelico in a car and a Bugstars van. Franklin has to then climb up to the roof and throw a BZ gas grenade into the AC vent. This knocks out the employees and customers in the store and the crew can now enter.
Loud Approach - In the Loud approach, Michael along with the crew directly enters the Vangelico store while Franklin leaves to get the bikes for their escape. The crew have carbine rifles pointed at the employees and customers as they enter and begin to steal the stones.
Escape - The alarm sets off in both approaches and the LSPD is alerted, who then chase Franklin and two other crew members who are escaping on dirt bikes. They ride their bikes through the sewer network and try evading the police. Michael and the hacker soon arrive in a delivery truck and help in taking out the police cars chasing Franklin and the rest of the crew. Once the cops are off their back, they drive to where Lester is waiting and disperse. Lester tells the crew that their funds will be wired to them soon. Michael asks Franklin to come visit him later to celebrate the success of this heist.
For the largest possible take, choose the Smart approach and hire Karim Denz as the driver, Packie McReary as the gunman and Rickie Lukens as the hacker. This will net Michael $1,223,073 and Franklin $293,539.

After this mission, the funds to pay off Martin Madrazo are collected. Also, the worker outside the Vangelico being questioned mentions what Michael said to him before escaping on camera. Trevor sees this on the news and realizes that it could be Michael as it was a dialogue from one of his favorite movies. Trevor is then shocked and wants to confirm whether Michael is dead or alive.

The mission first appeared in a scene in the first trailer. It was later depicted in an artwork piece almost a year later.
This was the first confirmed mission of Grand Theft Auto V.
This mission was going to be named Pest Control in the beta, which is also the name of a mission in GTA IV.
Unlike the later Heists, Franklin is not yet an equal partner and merely gets a 12% cut as a hired driver.
If Michael stays in the store after the timer runs out, a unique cutscene will play, where the police arrive and arrest the crew members. Michael is seen getting handcuffed and at the end and escorted to a police vehicle. This will also fail the mission.
