Armor is used as protection when battling hostile mobs in Minecraft and it can significantly reduce the amount of damage received by the player. The damage reduction scales with respect to the material the armor is made from. An armor set consists of a helmet/cap, chest plate/tunic, leggings/pants, boots, and shield. The recipes for crafting armor of a particular type is the same for different types of material with some exceptions.

How to craft armor?

To craft armor, you will require a material that can be turned into armor, this includes diamond, gold, iron, netherite, and leather. Each category of armor has a different recipe. The turtle shell is a material from which only a helmet can be made.

Crafting Helmets

To craft a helmet of any sort you will need five units of the desired material. When making a helmet you will need to place them in the exact pattern as shown in the image below. There should be 3 units in the first row and 2 units in the second row on either side, the middlebox should be left empty. This recipe applies to crafting helmets/caps from leather, iron, gold, diamond, and turtle scutes.

To make a netherite helmet players must own a diamond helmet, a netherite ingot, and have access to a smithing table. By interacting with the smithing table an upgrade menu will be displayed, with three slots. The first slot if for the item you wish to upgrade, the second slot is for placing the material you wish to upgrade it to, and the final slot is where your upgraded item will show up. By placing a diamond helmet in the first slot and a netherite ingot in the second slot you will upgrade your diamond helmet into a netherite helmet.
