Basalt is a naturally generated block that can be found in the Nether and it can also be made from a generator. There are three different variants of basalt: Basalt, Polished Basalt, and Smooth Basalt. Polished Basalt can be found in ancient cities, Smooth Basalt can be found around amethyst geodes and in ancient cities.

There are multiple sources of Basalt blocks:
Basalt is naturally generated as pillars that are found in a soul sand valley or in basalt deltas where they are a part of the regular terrain and columns. You can find both regular and polished basalt in a bastion’s remnants. Smooth basalt generates as a natural part of the outer layers of amethyst geodes. Both polished and smooth basalt can be found in an ancient city.

Polished basalt can be made by arranging regular basalt in a 2x2 formation in a crafting grid or by cutting it with a stonecutter. Smooth basalt on the other hand can be obtained by smelting regular basalt in a furnace.
Basalt can be generated by lava flowing into a space that is on top of soul sand and adjacent to a block of blue ice, the flowing lava is then replaced by a basalt block.
Basalt currently has no use other than for construction or decorative purposes like wood logs and quartz pillars. There are no special features for basalt block and its variants.
Basalt is mostly useful if you are looking to decorate your home or just need a quick and makeshift shelter in the nether. Its variants have no specific use and are only useful for decoration.
A. Basalt is mostly used for making structures such as pillars, floors, walls, and paths.
A. Finding smooth basalt in the wild is a challenging task but luckily players can make their own.
A. To make a basalt generator, dig a 2 deep hole, and place soul soil at the bottom. Then replace one block next to the hole with Blue Ice, and another with a lava source.
