Buried Treasure

Buried treasures are naturally generated structures that consist of a loot chest buried in the ground, usually on beaches and rarely on the ocean floor. The item heart of the sea which is used to craft a conduit can only be obtained from these chests. Explorer maps can be used to find buried treasure.

How is buried treasure generated?

Buried treasures are generated in beach biomes and sometimes even underwater. These chests will almost always spawn in some form of solid material. Most of the time buried treasures will be on a beach, so they will usually be covered up by some sand or gravel.

When the treasure spawns on the side of an underwater hill it will be covered with stone blocks, if generated on the ocean floor it will be covered up by sand and gravel. In Java Edition, buried treasure will always be generated at chunk coordinate 9 (out of 0 through 15) on both the X and Z axis and are always facing east. In Bedrock Edition, buried treasures generate at chunk coordinate 8 (out of 0 through 15) on the X and Z axis.

Loot and structure

Buried treasures will always have a heart of the sea in them and the chest will also be filled with various loot.
