Carpet

Carpets are thin decorative blocks that come in a total of 16 color variations. They are made with wool and can be placed on top of a block, completely covering it. They act like a half-slab, meaning some blocks cannot be directly placed on top of it.

How to get a Carpet?

Carpets can be either crafted or found in naturally generated structures such as mansions, igloos, and villages. They can be picked up by simply breaking them with any tool. Unlike wool, carpet doesn't break quicker when using shears. Igloos with a basement will have a 50% chance of light gray or red carpet being generated in them, while in a woodland mansion, you will find all color variants of carpet other than orange and light blue. The biomes in which a village is generated dictate the color of carpets you can find there, for example, you will find purple, white, and red carpets in taiga villages or blue and red carpets in snowy tundra villages.

To craft a carpet you will need two pieces of wool, and by placing them next to each other horizontally in a crafting grid you will be able to make a carpet. If you want to dye your white carpet you will need to place the dye color of your choice in the center of the crafting grid and then surround it with 8 pieces of carpet.

What are the uses of Carpets?

Carpets have the same visual thickness as pressure plates. They cover the entire surface of the block they are placed on and their thickness also prevents mobs from spawning on top of them. Carpets can be placed on any block, including non-solid blocks, except air, item frames, and structure void.

When placed on grass or fern, they break and the carpet is placed on the block below. Carpets are opaque blocks, but they don't obstruct any light going through them. This feature allows the player to decorate their homes by placing light blocks on the floor and covering them with carpets in order to hide the blocks and still provide illumination.

Llamas can be equipped with carpets in their carpet slot. Each carpet color shows as a different patterned rug on the llama's back.‌ Carpets will also burn when placed in furnaces and smelt 0.335 items per carpet.

Conclusion

Carpets are decorative blocks that are quite versatile as they can be used for many purposes. Since crafting them is quite easy, you should definitely try to use them to make your builds look better by placing them on the floor to either make patterns or hide the surface of some blocks.
