Released in patch v1.8, Cave spiders are neutral mobs that are only found in mineshafts and caves. They are smaller compared to regular spiders and are dark blue in color. Their different texture makes it easy to differentiate between the two. Since they are smaller, they can fit through 0.5 x 1 hole (Half block holes), which makes them superior to regular spiders.

Their names make it quite obvious to figure out that they spawn in dark caves and mineshafts. They spawn from spawners that are at a light level of 0. They are exclusively found underground and they will never spawn above ground naturally.
The Cave spider inherits a lot of its behavior from normal spiders. They are neutral in well-lit environments with a light level of 9 or higher. They can climb walls and squeeze through holes as small as half a block. They are resistant to poison and unaffected by cobwebs. As they are arthropods, they are weak against weapons with the Bane of arthropods.
The best and most efficient way to fight Cave spiders in a cave is to use water. Water will push them and keep them at distance, as well as break any cobwebs impeding your movements. Once the cobwebs are taken care of, you can resort to melee attacks to take care of the Cave spiders.
If surrounded by a swarm, use water to push them back as they can poison you when they deal damage.

The poison will reduce your health all the way down to 1 heart. This capability is unique to the Cave spider but will only be in effect if the game difficulty is at normal or above.
If you encounter a Cave spider spawner, the best thing to do is to place some torches on it so that the spiders stop spawning, making it easier to destroy the ones left. Making sure that you find and destroy the spawner is of utmost importance, as Cave spiders are quite dangerous, especially in tight and constricted caves and mineshafts.

Upon death, a cave spider will drop the following items -
Cave spiders are a new and deadly mob that players should be wary about. Unique features such as the ability to deliver poison to the player, which reduces the player’s health drastically, make them a dangerous mob. Other than that, they are quite similar to their counterparts. Since they have 8 limbs, players should try to keep them at arm's length.
Before the name cave spider was finalized, it was known as “tree spider” and “blue spider”. Their vision has a red tint when compared to their counterparts.
