Granite is a naturally generated igneous rock that is found in large clusters in the ground. They are quite common in the Overworld and can be found in almost all biomes. They have a variant known as polished granite. Granite was added to the game in the ‘Bountiful Update’ in v1.8.

Granite is naturally generated in the Overworld in large blobs. The game will attempt to generate granite twice per chunk in blobs of up to 862 individual blocks. Granite can replace other blocks such as stone, diorite, andesite, tuff, and deepslate when generated. Naturally generated granite can be picked up by the player when broken by a pickaxe, and when mined without a pickaxe, nothing will drop.

Players can also make their own granite by combining diorite with nether quartz.

Granite can be used for decorative purposes or as a substitute for stone as they both have similar blast resistance. Granite can be turned into polished granite by placing four blocks of regular granite in a 2x2 formation in the crafting grid. Both granite and polished granite can be turned into walls, stairs, and slabs with the help of crafting tables or stonecutters. Granite can also be used to make a stonecutter.
