In Minecraft, there is a surprising list of items that cannot be crafted that exist within the game. It leaves such aforementioned items that are attainable yet just out of reach. One such item would be the bell, which can be difficult for people to acquire not because it is difficult to find, but knowing how to actually obtain it might not be obvious.
This article will address the technicalities in acquiring this item, and after you finish reading, the difficulties of getting a bell will be a thing of the past.
In a Nutshell:
To get a bell from a village, you will need to use a pickaxe to gain it without destroying it. It would be rather cold-hearted to take a village’s bell since there is a reason village have bells in the first place. The only villagers that will actually sell bells to you will be the weaponsmith and toolsmith, and even from the get-go, they will not be able to sell a bell to you right away.
In survival mode, you will have two avenues before you on how to acquire a bell. Both methods will require you to be in a village since it is the only location for where you can obtain it. The first method is by going to a village’s main bell. Almost every village will have one, more often than not in the center of their location. Simply breaking it with your fist will not grant you the item, however.
To gain a bell from a village, you will need to use a pickaxe to gain it without destroying it. It would be rather cold-hearted to take a village’s bell since there is a reason villages have bells in the first place. If a raid occurs and the bell is rung, it’s the impromptu alarm that gets villagers to flee and hide within their houses until the threat has been utterly destroyed. Additionally, a bell rung during a raid gives all pillagers in a 48 block radius the Glowing effect for a few seconds.
The second method without stealing a village’s own bell requires you to trade with another villager. The only known villagers that will actually sell bells to you will be the weaponsmith and toolsmith and even from the get-go, either will not be able to sell a bell to you right away.
You will first need to level up the weaponsmith or toolsmith villager with prior trades until they reach the Apprentice level. To enable them to reach that high of a level you are going to have to trade with them until they earn enough experience to level up enough. You can do this by selling smithing-related items to them or buying smithing-related items, provided you have enough emeralds to afford such purchases.
Only then will they have a high chance of being able to sell a bell to you for the price of 32 diamonds.
If you are playing in creative mode or just want to acquire a bell through more gamey means, then you can access the item through the creative item menu.
Your other option would be to summon it through a console command. The correct command to do so will be the following:
Command: Give @P bell 1
The bell is a very simplistic item with a very singular purpose. In spite of this, it can be a bit of a difficult item to obtain due to the circumstances of which it only exists during survival mode. As you can see, however, it is very much obtainable, and with enough time and dedication, you could have your own collection of bells to ring if you are patient enough.
