There is a plethora of food in Minecraft, but nothing is more versatile as a food item than the Egg. While not edible raw, this Egg can theoretically provide you with endless food for your character. Eggs are one of the items in Minecraft that must be intentionally sought after, as it is rare to find Eggs in chests or villages. In fact, you cannot even sell Eggs to villagers as of update 1.16.
Compared to food item components such as Wheat, seeking out an Egg will very quickly solve your food-related woes. You see, Eggs in Minecraft can be crafted into high quality desserts such as the Pumpkin Pie and Cake which heal more hearts than your average food source. However, the best way to get food from an Egg is actually by cracking it and growing a Chicken.
Any Chicken will lay an Egg at least every 10 minutes.
Find a source of Eggs, and throw Eggs against a wall until a Chicken spawns. Please note that Chickens cannot spawn by leaving Eggs on the ground.
The easiest way to accomplish this is fencing in a Chicken and waiting patiently.
There is only a 12.5% chance that any Chickens will spawn, don’t give up!
Eggs can be used beyond creating Chickens, however! There are two distinct recipes that may pique the interest of any particularly festive players. One recipe is the Minecraft classic Cake which restores up to 7 hunger bars when eaten in full. The other, lesser known recipe is the Pumpkin Pie which actually restores more than Cake, at 8 bars of hunger. Pumpkin Pies are one of the easiest recipes to craft as they only require a single manually extracted animal product, which is the Egg! Cakes by contrast require Milk, Sugar, Eggs, and Wheat which means creating a new cow farm before you are able to craft it.. To craft a Pumpkin Pie you will need one Pumpkin, one Sugar and one Egg.

Q. Can you use Eggs in place of snowballs?
Eggs can be generated indefinitely and can be thrown the same distance as snowballs. However, the difference is that Eggs are not capable of doing damage to any enemies, including Blazes and the Ender Dragon.
Q. How many foods can be crafted utilizing Eggs?
There are only two recipes that can use Eggs directly, but many recipes require the byproduct of Eggs (Chickens) to cook.
Eggs cannot be consumed or cooked and it also cannot be used as throwable weapons. The purpose of Eggs is entirely related to food, compared to items like Wheat which can also produce decoration blocks for added immersion. Eggs can practically be generated exponentially, given you have the patience to set up a proper farm. Regardless, they are a great passive food source because they are produced constantly.
