Looms in Minecraft are meant to unlock limitless customization potential. Looms grant 7 patterns with which to use on banners and shields. These blocks are easy to make but require a fair amount of materials to customize each banner.
There are three slots in each Loom, for the banner, color dye and the banner pattern. The banner pattern slot is not required to use the machine. With 34 designs and 7 slots to choose from, it’s possible to create all kinds of flags and signs.
You can even choose the color of each of the 7 layers. This means your creativity is your only limiter! You can create monochrome, foreboding glyphs or colorful symbols of hope. There are also lots of iconic real life combinations that are possible.
To craft Loom in Minecraft, you will need the following:
String drops from wild Spider enemies. They can also be found very commonly in chests in the Overworld.
You must have dye to use a Loom and the easiest way to get dye for this purpose is utilizing a Squid’s Ink Sac. Obtain an Ink Sac by looking in nearby rivers and lakes for Squid! There are also 6 unique banner patterns that can only be crafted with paper and an item or block that represents the pattern.
To actually use the Loom, you must place a Banner in the leftmost slot while placing dye in the rightmost slot. Here, you have 34 designs to choose from! You can stack up to 7 of these designs on top of each other, each with its own color if you so desire. These designs are very flexible and allow limitless combinations. Do not forget that to utilize all 24 designs, you must use the scroll wheel to the right of the Loom customization UI in order to access all possible designs.
