You may have heard the phrase “Dog is man’s best friend,” but in Minecraft, Wolves are man’s best friend. Wolves are loyal, powerful creatures that can be tamed easily and often. Unlike most animals in Minecraft, Wolves will follow and protect you against enemy mobs, bark at enemies and all kinds of other useful things.
Wolves are an excellent protector against the dangers in Minecraft and they are also commonly spotted in grassy areas. Each Minecraft player will eventually run into skeletons at night. When you kill these skeletons, you are given bones which are not universally a useful item.
While you can build certain recipes using White Dye or Bone Meal, Bones can be used to tame Wolves as well. Each Bones you pick up potentially represents a new, friendly companion!
Bones are dropped primarily from Skeleton mobs.
Find a wolf in the wild and feed it bones. Once fed enough bones, a collar and flurry of hearts will appear to let you know that your Wolf is now officially tamed!
Run around at night and you will be sure to attract some skeletal attention.
Be careful, these wolves can be dangerous and will attack you if you threaten them in any way.
Your tamed wolf will happily eat any meat, including raw.
Like all animals in Minecraft, Wolves must be at full health to breed. Increase its HP if it is low by feeding it food (bones will no longer work once tamed). If you are wondering whether a Wolf is breedable, simply look to its tail for an indication of its hp. Instead of an HP bar, your Wolf will display its current HP based on how high the angle of their tail is. If your Wolf is at critically low health, 5 hearts or less, your Wolf will start whining. If your Wolf’s tail is elevated, it is good to go! If you have two wolves at perfect health, feeding them can trigger the mating cycle. They should give birth to a baby wolf eventually! Feed this pup to help it grow.
Baby Wolf
Q. How do I tame a baby Wolf?
If you have already tamed both parents, their offspring will already be tamed! You just need to feed him meat to help him grow.
Wolves are the best pet in Minecraft. From customizable accessories, custom names, and healing capabilities, these animals are the best friend you could ever ask for. It will fight in combat for you, avoid Creepers and lava intelligently, and even attack most mobs at night. Just make sure you always bring meat, even raw meat, for your friend. If you get too caught up in an adventure, your dog can eventually fall in battle. Be careful!
