The lodestone is a utility block that can be used to alter the direction of compasses to point towards it. It works in all three dimensions of the game. You can find lodestones in bastion remnants or you can craft them.

Lodestone can be crafted by players or found as chest loot. You are guaranteed to find a lodestone in the bridge chest of bastion remnants. You can also craft your own lodestone with eight chiseled stone bricks and a single Netherite ingot.

Using a compass on a lodestone will cause the compass to point to the lodestone, which is indicated by an enchantment glint effect on the compass. This effect will work even in the End and the Nether. If the lodestone is broken, or in a different dimension than the compass, then the compass will start spinning randomly, as ordinary compasses do in the End and Nether.
If the lodestone is destroyed while a paired compass is in a chest, shulker box, item frame, armor stand, or any other storage item, the compass does not register that the lodestone is destroyed until the item is retrieved. Placing a lodestone back in the exact place as the original lodestone while the compass is still in a container prevents unpairing.

The lodestone is a block that can be used as an anchor for navigation. By using a compass on it, you will always be able to find your way back to where the lodestone is placed. Since bridge chests in bastion remnants guarantee a lodestone, it is better to obtain one there than going through the trouble of crafting them yourself.
A. To make a lodestone you will need to place a Netherite ingot in the center and surround it with chiseled stone brick, in the crafting grid.
