The Potato is a farmable food item that is used as a source of nutrition in Minecraft. It is one of six crops that are required to be grown on farmland blocks. They are a food item that can be used for breeding pigs and they were added to Minecraft in v1.4.2 in the ‘Pretty Scary Update’. They are a renewable resource, meaning you can make a farm out of them with just a single potato.

Potatoes can be found in village loot chests and farms. You can also find them commonly in loot chests in Pillager outposts and Shipwrecks. Mobs such as zombies, husks, and zombie villagers can also drop potatoes when killed by a player or tamed wolf.

Potatoes are commonly used for eating but they can be used for a lot of different things:
Potatoes can be farmed by planting them on farmland. Planted potatoes go through 8 stages to grow completely, and go through 4 visually distinct stages. When harvested, you will be able to collect between 2-5 potatoes per crop. Their growth can be accelerated with bone meal.

Pigs can be bred with the help of potatoes. When villagers are given 12 potatoes they become willing to breed.
Potatoes can be smelted in furnaces and smokers to make baked potatoes which provide more nutrition than regular potatoes.

Potatoes are a nutritious food source that can be used for plenty of other purposes. It is highly recommended that you make a farm for potatoes since baked potatoes are quite nutritious compared to regular uncooked potatoes.
