Snow Block in Minecraft

Snow is usually found in taiga and snowy plains biomes and it is caused by snowfall and slowly covers the ground and structures. It is most common at the tops of large mountains, particularly in the mountain biome.

How can you get snow?

Snow is naturally generated in snowy biomes and its amount on the ground increases over time if constant snowfall occurs. The only way to pick up snow is by using a shovel enchanted with Silk Touch. Destroying snow with a non-Silk-Touch shovel will drop one snowball per layer.

Any other tool, even if enchanted by Silk Touch, destroys the snow and drops nothing. Players can also craft snow by using three snow blocks and placing them in a horizontal line across the crafting grid.

What is the use of snow?

Snow is mostly a decorative block that will cover most blocks and they cannot be placed on ice blocks. They also melt away if a heat or light-emitting block is close enough. If the snow keeps piling on and reaches the height of a block it will turn into a snow block, which can be picked up with a shovel enchanted with Silk Touch.

Snow blocks can e found in the mountain, taiga, and snowy plains biomes. They are both naturally generated and post-generated due to snowfall. To pick up snow players must use a shovel enchanted with Silk Touch. Snow can be used as a decorative block by covering up the top of blocks.
