Woodland Mansion in Minecraft

Woodland mansions are massive structures that are systematically generated structures and can be found in dark forests often quite far away from the world spawn point. The mansion is inhabited by evokers and vindicators and is one of the few places players can obtain a totem of undying aside from raids. Other than illager mobs, the mansion's interior lighting is low enough for other overworld mobs such as zombies and creepers to spawn. These mansions also contain valuable loot in large quantities. They were added to Java Edition in v1.11.

How is a woodland mansion generated?

Woodland mansions will usually be generated thousands of blocks away from the player spawn point, but with the help you a woodland explorer map you can locate them. These maps can be obtained from cartographers in villages, but there is no guarantee that they will lead you to the closest one. This structure is rare than the mushroom biomes.

Structure of woodland mansions

Woodland mansions differ from one another but they all have some things in common: they all have 3 floors with a variety of rooms, and they even generate a cobblestone foundation below them if there are any gaps in between the bottom of the mansion and the ground. The topmost floor is about half the size of the floors below it. The size of the floor varies between mansions as it depends on how many rooms will get generated on the top floor.

All mansions have a large foyer that leads to the hallways connecting the rooms, also a giant staircase is generated there which leads up to the second floor. There any lots of rooms and several of them are poorly lit and may contain loot chests. There are many different types of rooms to find such as flower rooms, bedrooms, storage rooms, secret rooms, and evoker statue rooms.

Rooms

The woodland mansion has a variety of rooms for players to explore, but since the layout is randomly generated some rooms may not be present. Some rooms are hidden and are not readily accessible as some have sealed entrances whereas secret rooms dont have any entrances.

Main and secret rooms

Woodland mansions can sometimes generate secret rooms on each floor. A secret room can be one of the following: “X” room, spider room, fake end portal room, obsidian room, birch pillar room, clean chest room, lava room, and an attic room. The “X” room is the most common room while the lava room is the rarest.

The best way to look for secret rooms is to look for gaps between normal rooms, this is best on the first floor as there are no windows. On the second and third floors, you can peek through windows to look for secret rooms. Another way to look for secret rooms is by cutting down through the roof of the mansion, this works best for the third floor alone.

Mobs

Vindicators, evokers, and allay are naturally spawned within a woodland mansion. As the entrance of the mansion is open and most rooms are poorly lit, Overworld monsters can spawn in these rooms or can walk through the open entrance. The number of naturally spawned vindicators and evokers depends on how many rooms and the type of rooms that are in the mansion.

Rooms such as map rooms, conference rooms, triple bedrooms, or altar rooms generate both evokers and vindicators inside them. Upon the generation of the mansion, Vindicators may randomly spawn in the corridors and hallways of the mansion. Once all the vindicators and evokers are killed they will not respawn.

Conclusion

Woodland mansions are dangerous structures that are filled with hostile mobs just as vindicators and evokers. Since they are really rare they are also very hard to clear. Good gear is recommended along with good knowledge of the hostile mobs. Keeping the vindicators and evokers at a distance is the best way to defeat them. The mansions are also home to a lot of valuable loot such as the totem of undying among other items.
