Nawaki, the younger brother of Tsunade and the grandson of Hashirama Senju and Mito Uzumaki held the same aspiration as his sister—to become the Hokage. On his twelfth birthday, he expressed this dream to Tsunade, who gifted him their grandfather's necklace, hoping it would bring him closer to achieving his goal.
Tragically, the day after his birthday, Nawaki's life was cut short during a battle when he unwittingly stumbled upon an explosive trap. The severity of his injuries was so extreme that his body became unrecognizable, according to Orochimaru, who witnessed the aftermath. In the midst of Tsunade's grief, Orochimaru retrieved the necklace and returned it to her, further adding to her devastation.
Years after Nawaki and Dan Katō had passed away, Orochimaru approached Tsunade with a proposition: he offered to bring both her beloved ones back to life, provided she healed his withered arms. However, this resurrection came with a grave condition—a human sacrifice was required.
Tsunade, despite her deep longing to reunite with Nawaki and Dan, made a difficult and selfless decision. She ultimately rejected Orochimaru's offer, recognizing that her fallen loved ones would not wish for the lives of others to be sacrificed for their return.
Nawaki, much like Naruto Uzumaki and Dan Katō, possessed a personality that echoed their shared traits. He harbored a deep desire to become Hokage, just as Naruto did, and took immense pride in the title and the legacy of his grandfather, the First Hokage.
With the First's blood flowing through his veins, Nawaki held a fervent aspiration to earn the esteemed mantle of Hokage, dedicating himself to safeguarding the village his grandfather had founded.
Described as a spirited individual, Nawaki despised the taste of defeat, mirroring Naruto's unwavering determination to overcome any challenge. Additionally, his character aligned with that of Dan Katō—an honorable champion of justice.
Nawaki carried within him a strong sense of righteousness, embracing the principles of fairness and upholding what he believed to be right.
Nawaki possessed short, light-brown hair and hazel eyes, complemented by distinct blush marks on his cheeks. His choice of clothing consisted of a dark teal poncho top and light green pants, reflecting a unique sense of style.
Notably, he wore the First Hokage's necklace, a cherished gift from his sister Tsunade, around his neck as a symbol of their shared dream.
It is worth noting that it is mentioned several times that Nawaki shares a remarkable resemblance with Naruto Uzumaki, the protagonist of the series.
Nawaki was a genin of Konoha, indicating that he possessed the skills required to become a shinobi. However, he never had the opportunity to display the arsenal of his capabilities.
The name "Nawaki" (縄樹) translates to "rope tree," which shares a thematic similarity with his sister's name, meaning "mooring rope", symbolizing a connection through the theme of ropes.
Nawaki made a cameo appearance at the ending omake (extra) of Naruto Shippuden episode 129, where he is depicted holding a balloon featuring Tsunade's face. This brief appearance adds a touch of lightheartedness to the narrative.
In the anime, Nawaki's background is further explored, and it is implied that he, along with two other ninjas, had affiliations with Orochimaru. The suggestion is that they might have served as his subordinates.
(To Tsunade) "It's not just a necklace… The village is Grandpa's treasure, I'll protect it! Because I am the grandson of the founder of Konoha, the First Hokage!…"
(To Tsunade) "Hey! I want to be like Grandpa someday… I will be honored with the name Hokage, because being Hokage is my dream."
