Sasuke Uchiha is one of the main characters in the fan-favorite manga and its anime adaption, the Naruto series, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto.

Sasuke Uchiha is considered to be the strongest Uchiha in the history of the Uchiha clan, rivaling the power of The Ghost of the Uchiha himself. Sasuke is the second son of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha and is the younger brother of Itachi Uchiha. Over the course of the story, Sasuke had different motives to become stronger and stand on top of the ladder. As a young kid, he worked hard to get his father’s recognition, and as a genin, he wanted to kill his elder brother, Itachi Uchiha, to avenge the death of his parents and the downfall of the Uchiha Clan.
In Naruto Shippuden, he searches for the strength to avenge Itachi and destroy the Hidden Leaf Village after he learned the truth about Itachi. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, he first helped to save the shinobi world and then fought against Naruto Uzumaki to destroy the shinobi world and then reconstruct it. Sasuke had a lot of twists in his journey. At last, he was able to find peace and now serves as a defensive wall that protects the Hidden Leaf Village and the rest of the shinobi world from any threat.
In the Naruto series, Sasuke started as a prodigy of the Uchiha clan and genin of the Hidden Leaf with lots to accomplish. By the end of Naruto Shippuden, he had gained the strength and might of a demi-god and fought opponents with abilities that could put them on the same pedestal as a god. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sasuke once stated that he can handle Kaguya Otsutsuki-level threats on his own.
In the new era, Sasuke travels across lands and protects the Hidden Leaf from the shadows, as a gesture of atonement for the sins he committed in the past. He married Sakura Haruno and fathered a child, Sarada Uchiha. He is also the master of the protagonist of the Boruto series and the son of Naruto Uzumaki, Boruto Uzumaki. Even though Sasuke has come a long way from where he started, his journey has not yet come to an end and he still has to overcome many roadblocks and accomplish plenty of feats.

Sasuke Uchiha was born in the prestigious Uchiha Clan in Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha’s home, with Itachi Uchiha as his elder brother. He was named after Sasuke Sarutobi, in the hopes he would follow in his footsteps and grow up to be a strong shinobi. As soon as Sasuke was accepted into the academy, he proved himself to be an outstanding student but did not receive the acknowledgment he deserved as he was constantly compared to his genius elder brother, Itachi, who was considered to be a prodigy. He was forced to live under his older brother’s shadow. Sasuke admired Itachi but this made him resent his elder brother to some extent.
One night, after a long day at the academy and training, when he reached the Uchiha District, he saw his neighbors and clan members slaughtered. To notify his family of the gruesome event, he rushed home but could not believe what he saw. Itachi was standing next to the bodies of their parents with a blade in his hand.
When he confronted him about it, Itachi put Sasuke under Tsukuyomi and made him relive the Uchiha Clan Massacre and the death of his parents over and over again, which traumatized young Sasuke. He then let Sasuke live stating that he was not worth killing, and fled the village leaving Sasuke the only survivor and one of the few living Uchiha.
Soon Sasuke graduated and became a part of Team 7 led by Kakashi Hatake, alongside Sakura Haruno and Naruto Uzumaki, who later became his rival. Sasuke was filled with a vengeance with a goal to kill his elder brother and revive the Uchiha Clan, but as he spent time with his team on their numerous missions, he stopped feeling alone and the feeling of vengeance started fading away. He then faced Itachi after the death of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi and was reminded of his hatred towards his brother and also realized how weak he was against him. Now, Sasuke was obsessed with seeking power, and he went to Orochimaru and trained under him, killing him after gaining power and going on his journey of vengeance.
After Sasuke eliminated Orochimaru, he formed a team of unique individuals. He gathered Jugo, Karin Uzumaki, and Suigetsu Hozuki and formed Hebi. The goal of Hebi was to locate Itachi Uchiha and make sure no one interrupts Sasuke and Itachi’s battle once they locate him.
On his mission to locate Itachi, Sasuke was confronted by Deidara and Tobi, members of the Akatsuki. Initially, Deidara wanted to assess him and eliminate him just so that he could kill Itachi’s brother. After he engaged in battle with him, Deidara was reminded of his hatred of Itachi and how he always felt inferior to him.
Sasuke’s attitude towards him and his Sharingan reminded him of Itachi’s arrogance and he unleashed a technique that he was saving to fight against Itachi, C4. After Sasuke saw through his techniques and proved his C4 to be ineffective, Deidara activated his deadliest Justu, C0, turning himself into an explosive and causing an explosion that covered a 10 km radius. Thanks to Sasuke’s quick thinking, he was able to get out of range using Reverse Summoning Jutsu.
Sasuke was successful in locating Itachi and headed out to battle Itachi at the Uchiha Hideout. Sasuke fought Itachi and after many hardships, he came out victorious, fulfilling his quest for vengeance after Itachi fell on his knees and died at the end of the battle. After his battle, Sasuke was exhausted and fell right beside Itachi’s corpse.
He was then retrieved by Tobi and brought to a safe location. There, Tobi revealed himself to be the legendary shinobi, Madara Uchiha (later revealed to be Obito Uchiha) and told Sasuke the truth about Itachi. At first, Sasuke rejected the truth but later came to terms with it. The reality caused severe mental stress on Sasuke, which resulted in the awakening of his Mangekyo Sharingan.
He then joined forces with the Akatsuki as per Madara’s request and set out on a path to avenging Itachi. This led to the formation of Taka. As their first official task, they were sent out to the Hidden Clouds Village to capture the Jinchuriki of the Eight-Tailed Beast, KIller B. The Taka found Killer B to be a formidable opponent but in the end, managed to capture him and took him to the Akatsuki Hideout.
Later, it turned out to be a trick used by Killer B to escape from the Hidden Cloud. Killer B created a clone of one of his tentacles which was captured by Sasuke and his team and he himself slipped out of the Hidden Cloud Village using all the chaos as a cover.
In the Five Kage Summit, Sasuke invades and attacks the venue, in an attempt to eliminate Danzo Shimura, one of the main reasons behind Itachi’s suffering. In his pursuit, he was confronted by Third Tsuchikage, Fourth Raikage, Fifth Kazekage, and Fifth Mizukage. Madara saved Sasuke from harm's way and took him to Danzo where Sasuke killed him.
After this, Sasuke is confronted by Sakura Haruno and meets with his former team, Kakashi Hatake and Naruto Uzumaki. He had to retreat as he was losing sight in his eyes due to the overuse of his Mangekyo Sharingan. Madara then helped him to implant Itachi’s Sharingan into him and he gained the visual prowess of Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
After his transplant surgery was a success and he had some time to recover, Sasuke headed out to meet with Naruto and kill him as he promised. On his way, he ran into a reincarnated Itachi and followed him to get some answers. Itachi was on his way to Kabuto Yakushi’s hideout. Sasuke then fought along with Itachi against Kabuto. At the end of their battle when the Edo Tensei Jutsu was undone, Itachi used a genjutsu to show Sasuke his story.
After witnessing what happened, Sasuke was in turmoil and wanted to know what the village is and why Itachi wanted to save it at the cost of his loved ones. He then revived Orochimaru in hopes of getting his answers. Orochimaru was interested in this side of Sasuke and decided to help him out. He revived the previous Four Hokage to help him get his answers. Hashirama Senju then told Sasuke his story and the history of the Hidden Leaf Village.
After his discussion with the previous Hokages, Sasuke joined the battle with the rest of the Allied Shinobi Forces and declared that he now wants to become the Hokage. On his arrival, he realized the real identity of Tobi and saw the real Madara Uchiha.
After Madara had become the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, he stabbed Sasuke and left him to die. At this point, Kabuto saved his life and implanted Hashirama’s cells in his body to heal the damage he had received. In his unconscious state, he met with the spirit of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths.
The sage told him about his history and the story about his mother and the creation of the shinobi world. He then bestowed his Moon Seal, Six Paths Yin Power, to Sasuke and some of his Six Paths Chakra to help him seal Madara and stop the revival of his mother. When he was completely healed by Kabuto, Sasuke gained a Rinnegan with six tomoe in his left eye. Unfortunately, Naruto and Sasuke were not able to seal Madara in time and Kaguya Otsutsuki, the Mother of Chakra, was revived by Black Zetsu.
After they had sealed Kaguya and the war finally came to an end, Sasuke threatened to kill all the current Kage and destroy the shinobi world, and took all the Tailed-Beasts under his control. He then challenged Naruto for a final battle. In his final battle against Naruto, Sasuke revealed his reasoning for such drastic actions.
In his journey up to that point, the reason behind all the wars and unnecessary bloodshed is the current village system and the only time every nation became united was when they had a common enemy. He planned to destroy the current system and take everything under his control, giving everyone a common enemy to fear, which will lead to an era of peace. To achieve such results, there must be no one who could oppose him, this was his reasoning behind wanting to kill Naruto.
At the end of their battle, Sasuke finally came to terms with Naruto and placed his hopes in him. Sasuke was an international criminal but was released from his crimes for his contribution to the war under Kakashi Hatake, the Sixth Hokage’s recommendation. Even though he was set free, Sasuke went on a journey around the world and protected the village from its enemies to atone for his sins. He even refused to get a prosthetic arm to replace the left arm he lost in his fight with Naruto, as a token of atonement for his sins.
In the new era, Sasuke is mostly away from the village, going from one place to another to find the hidden hideouts of the Otsutsuki clans. He married Sakura and had a daughter named Sarada Uchiha. He is also the master of Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto’s son.
He is considered the Shadow Hokage who protects the village from the underworld without any recognition for his contributions. In episode 218 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Sasuke lost his Rinnegan after he got stabbed in it by Boruto, possessed by Momoshiki Otsutsuki at the time, by a kunai.
Sasuke Retsuden is a novel featuring a spin-off story in the Naruto universe, an original story written by Jun Esaka and illustrated by none other than Masashi Kishimoto. It soon gained popularity among the fans of the series and even got a manga adaptation and now it has received an anime adaptation for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. It tells the adventures of the married couple, Sasuke and Sakura, and explores their views on life and death.
In the novel, Sasuke travels to the Astronomy Research Institute, an astronomical observatory located far from the Land of Fire and just outside the boundaries of the Land of Redaku. It is stated that this observatory was founded by Tataru Janmaru, a contemporary of the Sage of Six Paths. There, Sasuke meets up with Sakura, and the two embark on an undercover investigation in the hunt for traces of the Sage of Six Paths. In this quest, Sasuke and Sakura stumble on a plan that goes beyond life and death and pushes them to a battle that tests this couple to their limits.
As a child, Sasuke was like most children his age. He was happy, loved his family, and loved to play and train with his elder brother Itachi. Besides that, he was very determined and worked hard to gain his father’s recognition. Since he joined the Ninja Academy, he used to get the highest score in his class and was quite popular among girls. He was anti-social from a young age and would rather train than engage in a conversation with his fellow classmates.
After the Downfall of the Uchiha Clan, Sasuke was filled with hatred and dedicated himself to growing stronger and killing Itachi, and reviving the Uchiha clan. After he joined Team 7, he formed bonds with others and his hatred started fading away. When he confronted Itachi in an attempt to save Naruto, he was brutally defeated by Itachi and came to the realization that he was too weak. To gain power quickly, he pursued Orochimaru.
Sasuke is often influenced and is one of the most realistic characters in the series. His character was not set in stone since the beginning of the series. His character developed as he gathered new information. At first, he wanted to destroy Itachi, but after he came to know Itachi’s truth he set out to avenge Itachi. He decided to destroy the Hidden Leaf and anyone who wronged Itachi, and then he discussed what is a shinobi, a village with previous Hokages, and decided to protect the Hidden Leaf. Some viewers are not a fan of this easy-to-be-influenced side of Sasuke and on the other hand, some viewers believe it to be the most natural response of an individual and find it more realistic compared to other characters who are always optimistic. Sasuke’s personality was best described by his beloved elder brother, Itachi. When Itachi met with Naruto, he stated that Sasuke is a black canvas that can be painted in any color.
Sasuke holds his friends and family very dear to him. As he has showcased before, he is an avenger and will go to any lengths to protect or avenge his loved ones if any harm is caused to them.
Over the years, Sasuke’s appearance has gone through a lot of changes. He has dark spikey hair with a hint of blue covering a portion of his face with bangs. His hair grew over the years, covering more of his face. He has dark eyes. Hashirama Senju stated that he was the striking image of Izuna Uchiha, Madara Uchiha’s younger brother. He was considered handsome and was popular among girls since he was young.
As a kid, he wore a high-necked dark blue t-shirt with the Uchiha crest on it paired with shorts and standard black sandals, common among the Uchiha clan. When he became a genin, he wore similar clothing with the addition of a bag attached to his right thigh carrying ninja tools and a Hidden Leaf Headband.
In his teenage years after he joined Orochimaru, he fashioned an open white long-sleeved shirt, with his blue pants and a dark cloth conversing his torso and knees, kept in place with a purple rope-like belt and dark arm guards. He also carried a sword with him. Sasuke’s sword is a chokuto, a straight sword, which he referred to as the Sword of Kusanagi
By the time of his fight with Itachi, he replaced the white shirt with a sleeveless dark gray shirt and added arm guards covered with bandages. After his fight, he fashioned a grayish shirt that was long-collared and consisted of a zipper. He also fashioned the infamous Akatsuki cloak when he joined forces with the criminal organization. By the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, his left Sharingan was replaced by a Rinne-Sharingan and he lost his left arm.
In The Last: Naruto the Movie, Sasuke appeared to be dressed in some sort of a nomad outfit. He wore a dark high-collared shirt, a blue cloth wrapped around his head, gray pants, and matching sandals. He also fashioned a light brown poncho that covered most of his upper body. What he wore underneath was not visible due to the poncho. He also carried a sword around with him.
In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, his outfit is drastically changed. His long hair covers his Rinnegan, and he fashions a sky-blue shirt covered with a dark blue cloak. He wears dark pants and dark blue sandals. He also carries a brownish sheath for his sword. In the latest episodes of the series, Sasuke lost his Rinnegan at the hands of Momoshiki Otsutsuki residing in Boruto’s body.
Sasuke is considered the strongest member in the history of the Uchiha Clan. He is also one of the two strongest shinobi in shinobi history, the other being Naruto Uzumaki. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Isshiki Otsutsuki considered Sasuke more of a threat than Naruto. His assessment was based on his intelligence, his Rinnegan, and most importantly, his deduction capability. Sasuke is capable of assessing a situation in the midst of a battle while remaining calm.
In his journey from an aspiring shinobi to becoming a demi-god-like entity, Sasuke gained many abilities along the way. He possesses all five basic chakra nature with the addition of Yin and Yang Release. He is also capable of mastering any jutsu that he tries. Sasuke excels in every form of jutsu, be it Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, or Taijutsu. Sasuke specialized in Fire Release and Lightning Release-based Ninjutsu. He is also a master of Genjutsu. Sasuke used his Sharingan Genjutsu on many occasions, in battles or for interrogation purposes, leaving the target helpless against him. He was even capable of putting all the Tailed-Beasts under genjutsu with just a glance.
As a possessor of Mangekyo Sharingan, Sasuke is also privy to its special abilities. Sasuke is one of the few individuals in history to be the user of a Perfect Susanoo. He also uses an upgraded form of Amaterasu, Inferno Style, which is unique to him only.
Sasuke also possesses all the abilities of Rinnegan. In addition to those capabilities, he also possesses a Rinnegan ability that is unique to him, which is known as Amenotejikara. This ability allows him to swap places with any object. This ability may not seem like anything special but in battle, it has proven to be a deadly ability. Sasuke is also capable of using Space-Time Ninjutsu, allowing him to travel between places and dimensions.

Other than the manga and its anime adaptation, Sasuke appears in other forms of media as well. Sasuke debuts in an ova titled, Find the Four-Leaf Red Clover! I finally… I finally got my first bit of revenge for Itachi… it's like the disgrace of the Uchiha clan is being cleansed. Like I'm separating the Uchiha clan from the rotten ninja world. You might even say it's what Konoha always wanted. You always repudiated the Uchiha clan, so now we will disappear from your memories just like you always wanted. When I kill everyone in Konoha! By severing the bond, we will be purified! That will be the true revival of the Uchiha clan!
