Boruto is the eldest child of Naruto and Hinata Uzumaki, and he has a younger sister named Himawari who was born two years later. Over the years, Boruto got to know the kids of his parents' childhood friends.

On the day Naruto was becoming the Seventh Hokage, Himawari wanted to bring her panda toy to the ceremony. Boruto, not wanting to carry it, tried to take it away, accidentally breaking it in the process.

Himawari, upset, activated her Byakugan and attacked Boruto. Naruto stepped in to protect Boruto, getting knocked out in the process. Fearing his sister's strength, Boruto tried to run but was easily found. Since then, he promised never to upset Himawari again.

Academy Entrance Arc

In the anime, Boruto befriends Denki Kaminarimon after saving him from bullies. Denki is forced to join the Academy against his will, and Boruto helps him stand up to his father. On their way to the Academy, Boruto unknowingly activates his special eye power and sees a dark shroud around Denki.

He prevents Denki from seeking revenge on bullies and saves a carriage from crashing. Boruto and Denki crash the carriage into the Hokage's stone face, resulting in Boruto getting suspended for two weeks.

During his suspension, Boruto is homeschooled by Hinata. When he returns to the Academy, his classmates criticize him, thinking he receives special treatment as the Hokage's son. Boruto meets Iwabee, and they decide to settle their differences through a match. After barely winning, his classmates view Boruto differently.

Boruto's recklessness leads to property damage, and Shino assigns him and other students to repair the Hokage Rock. Later, Boruto, Inojin, and Shikadai notice Metal Lee acting aggressively. Boruto's eye power detects dark chakra around Lee, and they work together to subdue him. Boruto becomes close friends with the group.

Concerned about his eye power, Boruto learns more about the Byakugan from Hinata. During a race between boys and girls in the class, Boruto attempts the Summoning Technique, accidentally summoning a creature that causes chaos. Konohamaru intervenes, and the girls ultimately win the competition, bringing peace between the groups.

On another day, Boruto meets the new transfer student Mitsuki, who finds him strange. During a welcoming party, they, along with other students, subdue a possessed construction worker at the academy. Later, Shino calls Boruto, Mitsuki, and Shikadai for an extracurricular class. When their possessed teacher attacks them, they come up with a plan to subdue him, but Shino rescues Boruto and Mitsuki from drowning.

Concerned about random attacks, Boruto and Shikadai discuss the source, realizing only Boruto can see it. They find Magire Kakuremino stalking Sumire, and when Magire confesses his feelings, Sumire turns him down. Creepy messages appear for Sumire, leading to her kidnapping by a possessed Magire. Boruto and others rescue Sumire, and Chocho helps Magire reject the possessing entity, causing him to faint from the chakra drain.

Boruto dreams of Toneri Otsutsuki, who warns of impending danger and reveals that Boruto's eye is the key to stopping it. Waking up, Boruto believes he manifested the Byakugan and adopts an action-hero persona. His family, skeptical, talks to Hiashi. During a sparring match, Hiashi tests Boruto's powers, questioning the likelihood of him having the Byakugan without prior training.

Then, Hanabi challenges Boruto to a sparring match to test his speculated Byakugan, but he is soundly defeated. Disheartened, Boruto wonders if his earlier dream was meaningless. Hanabi encourages him to continue trying on his own before seeking help.

Boruto bumps into Sarada and activates his eye, sensing a dark shadow. Following it, he discovers it's Kagemasa, a famous but now overweight movie star. Kagemasa attacks Boruto in frustration over his movie series being canceled. Sarada saves Boruto, and they work together to defeat Kagemasa, purging the possessing entity.

Determined to uncover the truth behind the "Ghost," Boruto skips classes with Mitsuki and Shikadai, but their plan is exposed. Boruto faces scolding from his mother, Hinata, and Shino, who assigns him after-school classes. Shino subtly encourages Boruto, Shikadai, and Mitsuki to try working at the postal service. When another attack occurs at the water purification plant, Boruto and his friends rush to help Sumire.

After ensuring Sumire's safety, Naruto confronts the children for conducting their investigation. He shows them the consequences of prolonged possession by the Ghost, requiring intensive care. Naruto insists they stay out of it, but Shino, witnessing their capabilities, convinces Naruto to leave the matter to him.

As Boruto and his friends investigate the Ghost attacks, they realize the creature intentionally targets areas far from Boruto, indicating someone is spying on them. They split into teams to protect the post chief, Komame, suspecting an attack. The Ghost escapes, but they learn Mitsuki believes Sumire is the culprit.

During dinner, Boruto is upset by Naruto's departure to deal with strange chakra throughout the village. Mitsuki reveals Sumire's involvement, leading to an earthquake and the Ghost's tangible form attack. Boruto refuses to harm Sumire, but Mitsuki restrains him and leaves.

Boruto and Mitsuki follow Sumire into Nue's dimension. Inside, they confront Sumire, convincing her to let go of revenge. They weaken the Gozu Tennō, and when they return to Konoha, Sumire is taken into custody. Boruto informs her that Nue survived.

Later, Boruto realizes his eye's power is gone. During a team challenge, Mitsuki insists on staying with Boruto, and they win their match. Rumors about Sumire's fate circulate, and Boruto confronts Naruto, who promises to help Sumire. Sumire joyfully returns to the class.

At night, Boruto's classmates receive a message about Denki's kidnapping. At the pier, Tsurushi reveals himself, traps them, and attacks. After defeating the Kiri shinobi, Boruto invites Kagura to play a card game.

Kagura shares his past, and Boruto encourages him not to let his family define him, giving him his playing cards. The next day, Kagura trains at the Academy with Boruto and Hiramekarei. Shizuma captures them, revealing his plan to start a revolution in Kiri. Boruto attacks, but Shizuma's peers overwhelm him.

In a weakened state, Shizuma tries to persuade Kagura to kill Boruto, who defends him but ends up joining Shizuma's group. Later, Boruto awakens to Sarada's care, and Hachiya explains Kagura's situation. Mei and Chōjūrō discover the stolen swords, and Boruto and Sarada convince them to treat the incident seriously. They join Chōjūrō to stop the New Seven Ninja Swordsmen.

The swordsmen try to destroy Kiri's Memorial Stone, and Boruto confronts them. Shizuma erects a mist barrier, separating them. Boruto fights Kagura, revealing Shizuma's lies. Mitsuki arrives with proof of Shizuma's crimes. Shizuma unleashes a blood mist, absorbing chakra through open wounds. Boruto and Mitsuki overpower him. Boruto struggled against Kakashi's grip but was freed by his classmates. Wasabi treated his wounds, and despite Kakashi's criticism, Boruto's friends defended him.

During discussions, the village was attacked by Ashimaru. Boruto engaged him until Konohamaru intervened, forcing Ashimaru to retreat. The attackers sought the village's bridge deed. Team 7 found villagers under genjutsu control and freed them. Kiri, the village head, was abducted.

Team 7 negotiated with the attackers, exchanging the deed for Kiri. After the exchange, the foes intended to kill them, but Konohamaru ordered the genin to flee with Kiri.

Byakuya Gang Arc

During a mission at the Konoha Bank, Boruto convinced a would-be terrorist to surrender, but the distraction allowed thieves to rob the vault using Ice Release. Sarada deduced the thieves' location, and Boruto, disguised with Mitsuki, pretended to be a buyer.

Their attempt to apprehend the thief failed, and he led them to a village where he claimed to have used the stolen money to repair the water system. Boruto questioned whether the thieves or the rich were truly in the wrong.

As the Byakuya Gang continued thefts in Konoha, genin teams were assigned to stop them under higher-ranked supervision. Boruto found Shikadai playing shogi with Ryōgi and suspected a connection. Later, during a mission to handle protesters accusing the Kaminarimon Company, Boruto suspected the Byakuya Gang's involvement.

When Team 10 broke formation, Boruto investigated with Shikadai. Discovering the theft of Katasuke's Magnum Opus, Boruto tracked the thieves using a scientific tool.

Boarding the Thunder Train, Boruto and Shikadai confronted the thieves. Boruto was briefly placed under genjutsu, leading to a misunderstanding with Shikadai. Working together, they freed Ryōgi from the genjutsu, and Boruto returned the stolen item to Katasuke after Naruto captured the gang's leader, Gekkō.

Naruto Shinden: Parent and Child Day

On the new annual holiday, Parent and Child Day, Boruto chose to spend the day training instead of participating with his family. However, when he witnessed a rigged parent-child food competition involving Chōji and Chocho, he intervened to ensure fair play.

Later, he was surprised to find Sasuke back in the village. Understanding Sarada's dilemma of awkward bonding with her father, Boruto advised her to enjoy the time together rather than focus on their differences. This advice helped the Uchiha duo reconnect. In return, Sarada suggested that Boruto be more casual with his own father, Naruto.

He argues with Naruto about teamwork, expressing his frustration at their lack of time together. Boruto is uninterested in entering the Chūnin Exams until he meets Sasuke and requests to become his student. Sasuke agrees on the condition that Boruto learns the Rasengan.

Sasuke notices but agrees to train him further. Boruto, aiming to stand out in the Chūnin Exams, decides to use the Kote during the matches.

During the Chūnin Exams, Boruto's team faces various challenges. In the first stage, they must answer a true or false question, but Boruto assumes they've failed and doesn't try to save himself. On Momoshiki's Planet, during the battle, Naruto tries to apologize to Boruto for not being around more. Boruto, forgiving, requests that Naruto share stories about his younger days instead of lecturing. Momoshiki absorbs Kinshiki, attempting to gain an advantage but is defeated by the combined efforts of the Kage. Katasuke arrives to assist but inadvertently rejuvenates Momoshiki.

Encouraged by Sasuke, Boruto attacks Momoshiki with a Rasengan. Naruto still immobilized, contributes his chakra, creating a massive Rasengan. With Sasuke's help, Boruto blinds Momoshiki's Rinnegan, preventing him from absorbing the Rasengan. They defeat Momoshiki, who warns Boruto about defeating a god, gives him a seal, and disappears into the mist. Time resumes, and they return to Konoha.

On the third day, the infected birds transformed and escaped, and Jugo went after them.

In their attempt to find Jugo, they discovered that Jugo's shots were missing, leading to his transformation and a rampage toward the village. The villagers turned against the Konoha shinobi when they learned about Jugo's identity. Wasabi and Namida were found unconscious and infected with cursed seals.

The researchers, despite their reluctance, requested Tosaka's help. After leaving the village, they encountered Sumire, who was knocked out by Suigetsu.

Suigetsu and Karin were looking for Jugo, and the genin explained that Jugo had been captured by the researchers. Sumire revealed that the assailants who captured Wasabi and Namida had special collars that allowed them to harness cursed seals. The genin concluded that the outbreak was started by these assailants working with the Land of Rivers' researchers.

Sasuke explained their mission to Jiraiya, and they discovered that a seal was protecting Kurama from being stolen. After a failed attempt to synchronize their chakra for a unique ninjutsu, Jiraiya began teaching them the technique to protect themselves from Urashiki.

After a conflict with Naruto, Boruto sought solace from his relative Neji Hyuga, who shared insights into Naruto's struggles. The next day, Naruto and Boruto reconciled and resumed their training, facing challenges in synchronizing their chakra. Urashiki, a formidable foe, interrupted their training, forcing Sasuke to sacrifice himself to save the others. During the encounter, Boruto noticed a unique aspect of Urashiki's technique.

They discovered that Urashiki could briefly warp into the past, granting him predictive abilities. In a subsequent battle, they exploited this weakness, causing Urashiki to poison himself inadvertently. Despite their success, Urashiki transformed into a powerful entity.

After Boruto consumed a poisonous fruit to be sent to the medical ward, he made contact with Kokuri and discovered he had been stabbed. The team decided to protect Kokuri by having him moved to their cell. They realized Arai was the assailant and exposed him.

Later, the group tricked Kokuri into revealing that he had donated stolen money, earning his trust. As the situation escalated with Kokuri facing a transfer to another prison, Team 7 decided to break him out. They sabotaged the water supply to force the guards to use a backup line. While waiting for Sarada's signal, they were attacked by Benga's summon.

Sarada arrived with crucial information, and they faced Tsukiyo, the Mujina second-in-command. Kokuri revealed Tsukiyo's technique weakness, allowing them to defeat him. In a final confrontation, Tsukiyo dragged Kokuri into the ocean, claiming he drowned. Sai and Konoha-nin arrived, and the mission was completed, with Kokuri providing valuable intel on the Mujina Bandits.

Several months later, while on a mission with Team 7, Boruto became preoccupied with thoughts about his seal. Despite regaining focus and defeating robbers, the mission's objective was compromised. Lee informed Boruto that Konohamaru needed him at the Hokage building.

There, Konohamaru assigned Boruto the mission of protecting Tentō Madoka. At Tentō's request, Boruto demonstrated ninjutsu and learned about Tentō's extensive shinobi collecting card collection.

Tentō offered Boruto a rare card in exchange for teaching him ninjutsu. Although uneasy about Tentō's approach, Boruto agreed to teach him shurikenjutsu. Tentō, struggling initially, revealed his desire to gain his father's attention. Boruto shared his own experiences and encouraged Tentō to find his own path, leading to Tentō's improvement. Hunted by the city's residents, Boruto and Konohamaru joined forces with Sarada and Mugino. They were attacked by Kumogakure shinobi and later confronted by Deepa, who sought the Hashirama Cell.

The groups worked together to track down the true culprits. They encountered Deepa, but fortunately, Omoi's team arrived at the scene and faced him while the Konoha-nin pursued the real culprits. Intercepting Yūga and catching up with Hiruga, they learned that Deepa was heading to the Land of Haze for the Hashirama Cell, and continued their pursuit.

After catching up to Hiruga's brother, Asaka, Boruto and the team faced Deepa, who swiftly defeated the remaining quadruplets. Deepa revealed his ability to manipulate carbon, making him invulnerable. Victor, allied with Deepa, separated the genin from the jōnin.

Boruto and his team faced Deepa's relentless attacks, but they were overwhelmed. Despite an all-out Rasengan strike, Boruto and Sarada were knocked out. Mitsuki used Sage Transformation to save them and escape.

Mitsuki brought the injured Boruto and Sarada to Yubina for care, stabilizing their condition. Later, they were taken back to Konohagakure for further treatment. Despite his defeat, Boruto vowed to grow stronger. He sought Kakashi's help to evolve his Rasengan. Kakashi emphasized applying nature transformation, particularly Wind Release. Boruto struggled, but with inspiration, he used a shadow clone to master the Wind Release: Rasengan.

Despite completing the new technique, Boruto felt it wasn't enough against Deepa's dense body. Kakashi noted Boruto's chakra limit, but Boruto refused to give up. Shikadai and his team joined the training, focusing on improving the Rasengan's penetrative power. Boruto and Shikadai discussed Deepa's power, inspiring Boruto.

The next day, Boruto successfully obliterated a boulder. He informed Kakashi, who arranged a test against Shojoji, a convict, to assess Boruto's progress. In a battle against Shojoji, Boruto's Wind Release: Rasengan proved insufficient.

To overcome Shojoji's defenses, Boruto used his new Compression Rasengan, which successfully defeated the opponent. Kakashi commended Boruto but warned of the technique's strain. Recovering in the hospital, Boruto was determined to refine the Compression Rasengan. After meeting Sarada, they decided to return Anato's ring to Mia in the Land of Valleys.

Upon their return, they discovered Victor's deceptive report about Anato's death. Investigating an earthquake at the company building, they found Konohamaru battling a recreated God Tree. Victor revealed his plan to use the God Tree to produce Chakra Fruit.

Victor separated Boruto and Sarada from Konohamaru, and they encountered Deepa. Determined to stop him, Boruto used the Compression Rasengan, but Mitsuki's timely arrival saved them. Reunited as Team 7, they defeated Deepa with a Super Compression Rasengan.

Orochimaru destroyed the God Tree, and Mia promised to testify against Victor's actions. Back in the village, Boruto, nursing his injured hand, and his friends helped Denki with a communication experiment. Although it initially failed, Denki remained determined to improve the technology, and Boruto joined the cheering celebration.

Ao Arc

In the anime, Boruto attended a memorial service and later sparred with his father, Naruto, who revealed his modified prosthetic hand with jutsu-absorbing capacities. Upset by this revelation, Boruto felt betrayed but was calmed by Sasuke, who explained the importance of not relying too much on advanced tools.

Learning about the group Kara and discussing Boruto's mark, the team was assigned a mission to escort scientist Katasuke to Ryūtan City.

During the journey, they met Ao, who influenced Boruto's perspective on Scientific Ninja Tools. In Ryūtan City, they encountered Sumire and completed their mission involving testing Scientific Ninja Tools. Boruto reconciled with Katasuke after seeing the positive impact of his work, especially on Chamaru, who regained mobility. The team received a mission to search for Konohamaru and Mugino, who went missing during a mission.

Later, accompanied by Katasuke, Team Konohamaru investigated a crash site and encountered autonomous puppets. After subduing the puppets, they found Konohamaru and Mugino in a cave. Ao attacked them, stealing technology from Katasuke and prompting a retreat.

Realizing Katasuke's remorse, Boruto reminded him that tools could be used for good. Formulating a plan to defeat Ao, they engaged in a counterattack.

Then, Boruto deceived Ao into weakening himself, destroyed his gauntlet, and defeated him. However, Koji Kashin appeared, using fūinjutsu to restrain the team.

Then, Boruto's Kāma unconsciously activated, absorbing Koji's flames. After the encounter, Boruto collapsed, and the team found an unconscious boy with a Kāma mark, later introduced as Kawaki.

Kawaki Arc

While examining Kawaki's body, Boruto's Kāma and Kawaki's own mark activated simultaneously, causing a shockwave. The team witnessed Kawaki's strength and his belief that they were Kara pursuers. Boruto activated his Kāma to protect the team from Kawaki's attack. Katasuke then determined that Kawaki was a result of advanced Ninja Tech, and they brought him to Naruto for examination.

In the anime, Kawaki escaped and was subdued by Naruto. Kawaki then moved into Naruto's house, causing tension with Boruto. They clashed, and Kawaki explained his tragic past.

Despite their differences, Kawaki offered to cooperate in removing their Kāma marks. Naruto later sparred with Boruto to help him improve, and Kawaki suggested using the Kāma to enhance training.

After a training session, Boruto saw a vision of Momoshiki, raising questions about the mysterious mark.

Following this, Delta infiltrated the village in pursuit of Kawaki, prompting Naruto to instruct Boruto to take Himawari and run. Boruto, fearing for his father, attacked Delta recklessly. After Naruto defeated Delta, Boruto and his friends taught Kawaki about shinobi culture.

When Kawaki revealed that Jigen was a threat, Boruto stood by him, referring to him as "brother." Later, when Kawaki informed them that Jigen had taken Naruto, Boruto and the team attempted to rescue him. After a tense interaction with Shikamaru, Kawaki and Boruto synchronized their Kāma to create a rift and entered another dimension to rescue Naruto. There, they faced Boro, a powerful enemy guarding Naruto.

After a tough battle and discovering Boro's regeneration core, Boruto and his team, with Kawaki's help, successfully defeated Boro and rescued Naruto. During the fight, Boruto's Kāma evolved further, manifesting Momoshiki's will and granting him immense power, which led to Momoshiki briefly taking control to defeat Boro. Afterward, Boruto woke up with no memory of Momoshiki's manifestation.

After the battle against Isshiki, Boruto and his family were overjoyed to see Naruto fully recover. In the aftermath, Kawaki shared information about his involuntary transformations with Boruto. The team learned about Kara's plans, the Ten-Tails, and the advanced Shinobi-Ware used by Kara members. Amado's interrogation provided further insights into the Otsutsuki and the threat of Momoshiki taking over Boruto.

When Isshiki invaded Konoha, Boruto insisted on fighting alongside Naruto and Sasuke. He received Sasuke's forehead protector and played a crucial role in the battle. Momoshiki briefly took control when Isshiki threatened Boruto's life, but the battle concluded with Isshiki's defeat. However, Naruto sacrificed Kurama, Sasuke lost his rinnegan, and Boruto, exhausted, struggled with the fear of Momoshiki re-emerging.

Then, Kawaki's encouragement helped Boruto access a rift, allowing everyone to return to Konoha. Boruto, empowered by Kawaki's provocation, declared his determination to find a way to free himself from Momoshiki's influence.

Despite the challenges, Boruto felt supported by Kawaki, and the two returned home together. In the anime, Naruto's reassurance about saving Boruto from Momoshiki's control helped Boruto overcome his fear and sleep again.

Code's Assault Arc

In the days following the battle against Isshiki, Boruto was taken off active duty to monitor his Kāma. Despite becoming a celebrity for his role in defeating Isshiki and saving lives, Boruto worried about his future. Kawaki, whose proper arm was restored by Amado, approached Boruto with a potential solution.

He mentioned Code, an Otsutsuki fanatic with a White Kāma, and suggested that Boruto create his own Kāma to use it on Code for a possible resurrection.

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Still from the anime.

Naruto offered Boruto medication to suppress his Otsutsuki transformation, and Boruto, eager for a solution, took it despite potential side effects. During a training session with Kawaki, Boruto sparred with his new housemate. A week later, he observed no changes from the medication.

The Uzumaki family hosted a dinner party to welcome Kawaki officially, and Boruto, acknowledging Kawaki's pursuit of mastering ninjutsu, gave him his forehead protector.

While collecting cards with his friends, Boruto expressed annoyance at the continued surveillance on him. That night, he sensed Kawaki leaving the house and, using a shadow clone as a stand-in, confronted the clone to avoid Kawaki getting into trouble. Despite both Naruto's and Kawaki's objections, Boruto went after Kawaki, hoping to help and potentially lead Konoha to him.

Boruto intervened just in time to prevent Code from taking Kawaki, scolding Kawaki for his reckless actions. Despite Kawaki's willingness to leave with Code to protect Naruto, Boruto insisted that he was protecting Kawaki. Code introduced himself to Boruto and acknowledged him as Momoshiki's vessel, revealing his intention to sacrifice Boruto to cultivate a God Tree.

Boruto activated his Kāma and engaged in a battle with Code, who initially had the upper hand. Code considered Boruto an amateur with the Kāma and explained that he could draw on the battle experience of the Otsutsuki who had branded him. Despite the struggle, Boruto, empowered by Amado's medicine, started pressuring Code. However, his body suddenly gave out, and he collapsed in pain.

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Still from the anime.

In a vision, Momoshiki's soul appeared, mocking Boruto for thinking that Amado's drugs could stop the Kāma extraction. Momoshiki took control of Boruto's body and continued fighting Code, as well as Naruto and Shikamaru when they arrived.

Kawaki, now with a new Kāma, fought against Momoshiki with the intent to kill him, even if it meant sacrificing Boruto. Boruto, reawakening, agreed with Kawaki's plan and pushed his father out of the way, allowing Kawaki to strike through his chest.

Code, unable to defeat Kawaki, retreated. Boruto woke up healed, shocking Naruto and Shikamaru. In a vision, Momoshiki explained that he saved Boruto by overwriting the remaining 18% of compressed data in the Kāma with Boruto's data, ensuring Boruto's resurrection.

However, Momoshiki warned that Boruto was now fully an Otsutsuki, a potential sacrifice for Code to the Ten-Tails. Boruto realized that this was different from Momoshiki's initial warning in a previous vision, indicating that another threat was looming.

Omnipotence Arc

Back in Konoha, Boruto and Kawaki met at the Hokage Rock, where Boruto explained Momoshiki's warning and how Kawaki viewed Boruto's life as a threat to Naruto. As Kawaki walked away, Boruto vowed to prove Momoshiki wrong about his prophecy.

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Still from the anime.

Later, Boruto shared his experience with Amado, Sai, and Katasuke. Amado expressed concern that Momoshiki's consciousness could still take over, but Boruto felt different and believed he had a better grasp on it, making the previously taken drugs unnecessary.

Under Shikamaru's instructions, Boruto kept the truth about Kawaki killing him from Sarada and Mitsuki. Sasuke apologized to Boruto for not keeping his promise to deal with him if Momoshiki took over, emphasizing the need to keep it from the public. Sasuke then gifted Boruto his forehead protector, and Boruto immediately put it on. Ino informed Sasuke of Code and Ada's invasion, leading Boruto and Sasuke to leave to help.

Arriving outside Amado's lab, Boruto listened as Shikamaru explained Ada's abilities and the situation with Code. After Code and Ada left with Amado, Shikamaru summoned Team 7 for a mission. Before leaving, Boruto had a confrontation with Momoshiki's manifested consciousness, vowing never to let him permanently possess his body.

At the Hokage's office, Boruto and Kawaki got past the awkwardness of their recent encounter. Shikamaru and Konohamaru discussed the Otsutsuki-related risks with them and informed them about Amado, Code, and Ada's actions. They revealed that Boruto and Kawaki would have to live with Ada and Daemon, and Boruto wondered why Ada would be interested in Kawaki.

Shikamaru explained their roles and the team's surveillance, and Momoshiki's consciousness listened in on the conversation. As part of the setup, Boruto and Kawaki were assigned to live in a large, expensive house with Ada. Kawaki argued with Boruto over his cheery attitude.

When a noise came from where Konohamaru was, Boruto was surprised by Daemon, Ada's little brother, who introduced himself and attacked both Boruto and Kawaki, knocking them out.

Upon waking up, Ada apologized for the harsh greeting, with Daemon making it clear that he was stronger to discourage any actions against Ada. Shikamaru contacted them through the comm system, and Boruto replied that Daemon had given them a "baptism through fire."

Boruto, along with everyone else, listened as Amado explained Ada's and Daemon's abilities, their shinjutsu origins in Shibai Otsutsuki, and Amado's goal of using Kawaki's Kāma to resurrect his daughter, Akebi. Boruto was relieved that Amado's goal wasn't as nefarious as he initially thought.

However, during the meeting, Boruto experienced a vision of Konoha shinobi, including his friends, fighting Kawaki. Confused and recalling Momoshiki's warning, he wondered if these were visions of the future.

Later, he asked Ada why she had chosen Kawaki over him. When Kawaki deduced that Ada had sold Boruto out to Code so she could have Kawaki, Boruto complained about his situation. After Ada requested Sarada and Sumire to join them, Boruto watched from afar.

He later defeated Daemon in a video game and heard Momoshiki's thoughts, who identified Ada's entrancing ability. Frustrated that Momoshiki refused to share details, Boruto tried to play it down, but Kawaki was determined to address Momoshiki directly.

As Shikamaru convinced Kawaki to stop, Boruto followed him. When Kawaki shrank himself, Boruto couldn't pinpoint his location but still sensed his presence. Shikamaru then had him accompany Ada, who wanted to go out. Boruto felt out of place while Ada and the girls shopped, and he was teased by Daemon. When Daemon rushed out, intrigued by an intensity he felt from Himawari, Boruto explained that she wasn't even a shinobi and disapproved when he thought Daemon had a crush on her.

Upon learning that Kawaki was somehow responsible for his parents' disappearance, Boruto rushed to find him. Kawaki attempted to seal Boruto away at the Hokage Rock, but Boruto fought it off with his Kāma. Despite Boruto's attempts to reason with him, Kawaki was determined to kill him due to his Otsutsuki heritage.

Sarada arrived to help, but Boruto urged her to run. While protecting Sarada from Kawaki's attack, Boruto's right eye got slashed, resulting in a permanent scar and the loss of sight in his right eye. Just in time, Mitsuki, Konohamaru, Shikamaru, and Sasuke arrived on the scene.

While Konohamaru checked on him, Momoshiki manifested through Boruto, absorbing Shikamaru's jutsu that was preventing Kawaki from escaping. Once Boruto regained control, Momoshiki teased him about his lost eye and declared that the foretold future had begun.

Mitsuki, disturbed by the assault, attacked Boruto with Sage Mode, accusing him of doing something to Naruto. Confused, Boruto fled, and Momoshiki explained Ada's true shinjutsu ability, revealing that their pasts were swapped in everyone's minds.

Team 10 ambushed Boruto, questioning his betrayal after the village had accepted him. Despite Momoshiki's offer to take over and kill them, Boruto refused, and Sasuke rescued him. They left the village, and Sasuke urged Boruto to validate Sarada's belief. Boruto, mocking Momoshiki, remained determined not to give in to despair. Ada arrived with Daemon, apologizing to Boruto and explaining her ability.

Boruto, impressed by how calm he was, empathized with Kawaki's past and stressed his determination to reduce it to a siblings' quarrel. Sasuke cautioned them to leave, and Boruto was determined to prove his identity, with Ada promising not to pursue them until they decided to return to Konoha.

New Era: Part II

After Boruto left Konohagakure, Sasuke was attacked by a Claw Grime, and he got trapped in it as it turned into a small tree, stealing his chakra. To save his master, Boruto took up Sasuke's sword and embarked on a quest to rescue him.

Along the way, Boruto encountered Koji and joined forces with him to stop Code and the Ten-Tails. During their mission, they discovered the true horrors of the Claw Grimes and the potential consequences if the situation persisted.

Boruto's Return Arc

Three years later, Code, affected by the memory swap of Boruto and Kawaki due to Ada's Omnipotence, launched an attack on Konoha. Aware that Boruto still cared about his former

friends, Code aimed to draw him out by releasing Claw Grime drones on the village.

Boruto appeared before Code, expressing disdain for his actions. He instructed Sarada to help civilians while he confronted Code. Boruto warned Code about the dangers of the altered Ten-Tails and urged him to recall the grimes, but Code refused.

In the ensuing battle, Boruto used his Rasengan, named "Uzuhiko," to disorient Code. He offered to lift the jutsu if Code revealed the Ten-Tails' location. Their confrontation was interrupted by Kawaki's arrival, along with Team 10 and Himawari. Code managed to escape through a Claw Grime, but Boruto had planted a tracking toad on him.

Using the Flying Thunder God Technique, Boruto quickly teleported to the Ten-Tails' dimension, only to find it gone. While facing Code again, a mysterious Bug-like being appeared. Boruto explained that it was a Claw Grime, and they were interrupted by more self-aware Claw Grimes resembling victims. As they attacked Boruto, he asked Code for assistance, but Code chose not to intervene, teleporting away.

Realizing he couldn't win alone, Boruto teleported back to the normal dimension to seek help from Sasuke. There, he was approached by Koji, who criticized Boruto for his recklessness as they began planning their next move.

Flashforward

Four years after the Otsutsuki attack devastated Konoha, a sixteen-year-old Boruto confronts Kawaki on the remnants of the destroyed Hokage Rock. In the face of Kawaki's threat to bring an end to the era of shinobi, Boruto dons his forehead protector, reflecting on his past as he prepares to engage in a decisive battle against his former ally.

Boruto Uzumaki’s Personality

Boruto is energetic, loud, and stubborn, much like his father Naruto. He even has a similar verbal tic, "dattebasa," akin to Naruto's famous "dattebayo." However, Boruto is more refined, crafty, and sarcastic compared to his father at the same age.

Despite his laid-back demeanor, he is diligent and possesses a mature understanding of the world. Unlike Naruto, Boruto doesn't express his feelings loudly and is known for his more subtle approach.

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Still from the anime.

His upbringing differs from Naruto's, as Boruto has a supportive family and many friends. He excels naturally due to his prodigious talents and nurturing environment. Boruto holds a high opinion of himself and often brags about his abilities.

However, this arrogance leads him to undervalue teamwork, believing he can achieve anything on his own. He initially relied on shortcuts, such as using cheat programs in video games and the Kote device to mimic advanced techniques.

Over time, Boruto's perspective changed. He developed a newfound respect for hard work and disliked those who relied on advanced tools. Meeting Ao helped him appreciate that tools are neutral and depend on their users.

Despite his arrogance, Boruto is loyal to his friends, readily aiding them when needed. He cares deeply for his family, especially his mother and sister. His relationship with Sarada, Sasuke's daughter, is complex, marked by disagreements but also genuine concern for her dreams. Boruto's unwavering loyalty and aversion to sacrificing others for personal gain make him a positive influence on those around him.

Boruto's relationship with his father, Naruto, has been strained due to Naruto's responsibilities as the Seventh Hokage, making him feel neglected and resentful. Initially wanting to surpass his father, Boruto becomes genuinely curious about Naruto's past, leading to a better understanding of his father's struggles.

Still from the anime.

After witnessing Naruto's strength and selflessness, their relationship improves, and Boruto stops demanding his father's time. Despite respecting Naruto's role as Hokage, Boruto has no intention of becoming one himself, choosing to forge his own path and support the Hokage, like his master Sasuke.

Boruto has a love for burgers, particularly limited edition ones, and enjoys spicy food. He also likes drawing, despite his poor skills, and has potential for techniques like Super Beast Scroll. During his time away from Konoha, Boruto undergoes a significant personality change, becoming quiet, calm, and focused. Despite facing old friends and enemies, he remains determined and composed, even in challenging situations with adversaries like Code.

Boruto Uzumaki’s Appearance

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Boruto, as seen in the anime.

Boruto is a fair-skinned boy with spiky blond hair, blue eyes, and two whisker markings on each cheek, resembling his father, Naruto. At age five, he wore a black tracksuit with a red fire symbol and dark pink stripes. As a genin, he added a forehead protector, a dark pink Uzumaki Clan symbol, and a glove on his right hand to conceal the Kāma, a black diamond-shaped seal on his right palm. In the manga, he wore a small black rubber band around his left ankle and wrist.

After defeating Isshiki Otsutsuki, Boruto resumed wearing Sasuke's forehead protector. During his time away from Konoha, he became taller and wore a white button-down shirt, black pants, sandals, and a black jacket with purple ends on the sleeves.

His outfit also included belts, a necklace with an Uzumaki symbol pendant, and a black, fingerless glove on his left hand. At age 16, his attire resembled his genin days with a beige belt, black pants with red lining, and a black glove on his left hand. He continued wearing Sasuke's forehead protector.

Notably, after sustaining injuries, Boruto gained a scar resembling a black geometric Kāma pattern on his chest and lost the sight in his right eye due to an attack by Kawaki. His hair became more unruly as he grew older, and he carried Sasuke's sword after his master's imprisonment.

Boruto Uzumaki’s Abilities

Boruto is a prodigious ninja, excelling in various fields due to his Uzumaki and Hyūga lineage. Inherited from his family, he possesses a powerful life-force and large chakra reserves. He demonstrated the potential for senjutsu, and his advanced chakra control allowed him to master the Rasengan in just a few days.

Still from the anime.

Being a descendant of the Hyūga clan, Boruto has the potential to awaken the Byakugan. While he initially couldn't fully utilize the Gentle Fist, his taijutsu skills are impressive, showcasing speed and agility. He can execute coordinated strikes and displays considerable strength, even overturning the ground and lifting heavy objects.

Boruto's intelligence and adaptability stand out. He excels at reading situations, employing misdirection, and creating intricate strategies. His cunning was evident in defeating experienced opponents like Momoshiki and Ao. Boruto's ingenuity extends to problem-solving, and he demonstrated exceptional academic skills by achieving a perfect score on the graduation exams without cheating.

In terms of combat, Boruto's versatility allows him to use a variety of techniques. He is effective in exploiting weaknesses and coordinating strategies with his allies. His overall prowess, including his speed, strength, and intelligence, positions him as an elite ninja, and his skills continue to evolve over time.

Ninjutsu

Before attending the Ninja Academy, Boruto displayed impressive ninja skills. He could create shadow clones, coordinating attacks with them at a level beyond his peers. Initially, he had some limitations, requiring a line of sight and managing only a few clones.

Over time, he improved, summoning dozens of clones from any position. Additionally, he formed bonds with animals, including a temporary contract with the snake Garaga and the ability to summon toads.

Boruto learned the Rasengan, starting with a small ball and later mastering its normal size with one hand. In the anime, he developed variations like throwing it as a projectile and compressing it for increased power. After gaining control over Momoshiki's power, he could use the Ultra-Big Ball Rasengan. During his time away from Konoha, he honed his Rasengan to manipulate Earth's rotation, disorienting opponents.

Boruto expanded his skills to include Cooperation Ninjutsu and Fūinjutsu, using them for strategic and immobilizing purposes. He also achieved proficiency in Space–Time Ninjutsu, showcasing the ability to use the Flying Thunder God Technique for teleportation across dimensions, although not as adept as his grandfather.

Additionally, Boruto possesses proficiency in multiple nature transformations. His primary affinity lies in Lightning Release, allowing him to unleash bolts of electricity to electrocute his targets. He is also skilled in Wind Release, enabling him to generate gusts to repel opponents. As an Academy student, Boruto showcased the ability to simultaneously perform Lightning and Wind Release for maneuvers like the Boruto Stream.

Upon becoming a genin, Boruto expanded his elemental repertoire by learning Water Release. This enables him to employ techniques such as Water Release: Splash Bullet. Notably, when initially learning the Rasengan, Boruto subconsciously applied lightning chakra to it (wind in the novel).

This unique approach renders the Rasengan invisible upon throwing, catching opponents off guard and inflicting significant damage upon contact. Following training under Kakashi, Boruto also acquired the ability to perform the Wind Release: Rasengan. However, this version is incomplete and lacks the power of the standard Rasengan.

As an Academy Student, Boruto demonstrated proficiency in kenjutsu, effectively wielding half of Hiramekarei and, after graduating, a new prototype Chakra Blade. Three years later, he effortlessly dispatched Code's Claw Grime using his own sword. Through training with Sasuke, he became highly skilled in shurikenjutsu, capable of altering a weapon's trajectory mid-flight and imbuing his shuriken with Lightning Release.

Karma

After defeating Momoshiki, Boruto's right hand was marked with a four-point black diamond seal known as Kāma. This seal functions similarly to Orochimaru's Juinjutsu and acts as a genetic backup of the Otsutsuki branding.

It allows Boruto to access Momoshiki's experiences and powers subconsciously. Isshiki noted that Boruto has a rare natural compatibility with the mark, making him capable of producing the highest quality Chakra Fruit for the God Tree. This compatibility enables Boruto to instinctively develop and synchronize with the mark at an accelerated rate, showing significant progress in a short time.

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Still from the anime.

When Boruto activates the Kāma's power, he can fight on par with Kara's Inners, who possess immense strength and scientific enhancements. The mark expands to cover his entire arm and the right side of his face with elegant lines, enhancing his physical abilities and granting him the ability to absorb nearly any ninjutsu or chakra-based attack.

Additionally, it allows him to create dimensional portals to other realms. Initially, Boruto couldn't control the mark willingly, and it drained his chakra severely. However, he later learned to use it more efficiently under Kawaki's guidance.

Originally, the Kāma posed a threat to Boruto, as his being was gradually being rewritten by Momoshiki to facilitate his resurrection in Boruto's body. When drained of enough chakra or knocked out, Momoshiki's consciousness could take control of Boruto's body, manifesting a horn on his forehead and transforming his right eye into a Byakugan.

Boruto's contact with Kawaki accelerated the takeover rate of both vessels. After Isshiki's defeat, Boruto received a special medicine from Amado to suppress the Kāma's progression. This allowed him temporary access to more of the Kāma's power without immediate control by Momoshiki.

Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Still from the anime.

However, after his death and subsequent resurrection by Momoshiki using the remaining Kāma data, Boruto became a complete Otsutsuki while retaining his physical appearance. This transformation grants him better access and control over Momoshiki's essence without the assistance of drugs, and their thoughts become available to each other against their will.

Dojutsu

At the age of 7, Boruto began to subconsciously activate the Jōgan in his right eye, triggered by a prophetic dream from Toneri Otsutsuki and the appearance of Nue. Initially, the eye activated instinctively during moments of great threats but remained dormant for a while until facing Momoshiki. By the age of 16, Boruto gained control and could activate the Jōgan at will.

Still from the anime.

This special eye allows him to perceive things that are normally unseen by a regular eye. It can detect the flow of chakra, allowing Boruto to see visible changes in one's chakra and track targets through their chakra.

The Jōgan can also identify the chakra pathway system, including key points like tenketsu, and see through invisible barriers connecting dimensions. Notably, despite damage to his right eye, when the Jōgan is activated, it appears fully restored, allowing him to see and use its powers.

Popular Boruto Quotes

  • To Naruto - "More importantly, as a father, today's an important day… you know what I mean, right? If you even forget about my little sister's birthday, then I'm not going to forgive you."

  • To Hinata - "Now that you mentioned it, Grandpa used to be a Hokage too, but Dad says that when he was a kid, Grandpa Hokage wasn't even in this world anymore! That means Dad grew up not knowing a thing about this "enjoyable" father-son situation, didn't he?! Dad is the only one who doesn't know what this is like! If he was going to be like this, then it would've been better if he was never here from the beginning…"

  • To Naruto - "A lecture… later? From you, Dad?! Will you really have the time to do that?! If you'd properly lectured me before then… now, things wouldn't have turned out like this!"

  • To Naruto - "It's fine if you're the same as you've been up until now. All I want is that when we get to meet up every now and then, don't give me lectures… from now on, tell me about your past instead, Dad."

  • To Sarada about his goal for the future - "When you become Hokage, I'll be your right hand man. I'll guard you well. To me, the Hokage is just a path. Just because my grandpa and dad are Hokage, doesn't mean that I have to walk the same path. Sarada… What I'm really aiming for is to become a shinobi like your dad. I'm going to follow my own ninja way."

  • To Tentō - "I'm just like you. I wanted my dad to notice me. I did lots of stupid things to get his attention. Even got banned from being a ninja once. I'm able to be one now only because everyone forgave me. I might not be much now, but one day I want to be an amazing ninja who can support the Hokage."

Boruto’s Top Fights

The major confrontations that define Boruto’s young career as a shinobi as well as display a large amount of his skillset are his contributions in his fight with Momoshiki alongside his dad and mentor, as well as against Kawaki, who also inherited the essence of an Otsutsuki and has a very similar Kama powerset.

  • Despite being born into the Uzumaki clan, Boruto and his sister are recognized as legitimate members of the Hyūga clan due to their direct bloodline from their mother.
