Burami and his team participated in the joint Chunin Exams organized by Konohagakure and Sunagakure. They were split into different rooms for a written test in the first round. They needed to earn a combined score of 100 points to pass, and they reached that goal. However, a bonus question about leaving a teammate as a decoy was left unanswered.
In the preliminary round, they raced to Sunagakure, and Burami's team was among the first 30 teams to arrive, qualifying for the second exam. During dinner, Burami tried to get more food but was stopped by other genin, resulting in a fight. He managed to grab some fallen food during the chaos. The next day, the second round of the exam, held in Demon Desert, was announced by the proctor, Temari.
On the second day of the exam, Burami's team collected three Heaven scrolls while searching for a team with an Earth Scroll. They encountered Team Kurenai and engaged in a fight. Burami discovered that Kiba Inuzuka had the Earth scroll and successfully took it from him with the help of his teammates. They escaped on a giant mole summoned by Muyami.
Team Kurenai pursued them, leading Burami's team into a quicksand pit. They managed to finish the second exam without further trouble. However, they later realized that Team Kurenai had survived and continued to track them. Burami attempted to mask their scent but failed, and they decided to confront Team Kurenai. They ambushed and fought them, but it was revealed that clones created by the Konoha-nin deceived them.
Team Kurenai explained that they used insects to mask their scent, but they could track Burami's team because Kiba detected the lingering scent on Burami's clothes. Team Kurenai overpowered Burami's team in another confrontation, and Kiba's Three-Headed Wolf technique defeated them. As a result, Team Kurenai obtained both a Heaven and Earth scroll.
Burami has a big appetite and loves to eat. When a fight broke out among the other genin, he was more focused on stuffing food into his mouth, even if he was pushed during the chaos. However, Burami can also be quite arrogant when it comes to battles as he believes that he is better than his teammates and takes credit for their combined efforts.
Burami has two forehead protectors from Kusagakure, one in the usual position and another tied at the back of his head. He also carries six hip pouches on his backside. He is a big, chubby man with two puffs of black hair at the front of his head and a shaved back. He wears an open red vest and pants, and he doesn't wear any shoes.
Burami's fighting style makes use of his large size and weight. He charges at his opponents, slamming his body into them like the Akimichi clan. He can store kunai in his stomach folds and throw them rapidly. Burami can also change the size of his belly or his entire body. He releases a stinky gas cloud that paralyzes opponents and affects their sense of smell.
Burami has a keen sense of smell himself and can detect his opponents from far away. To prevent his teammates from being tracked, he creates a giant bubble from his sweat to hide their scent. He can also create multiple sweat bubbles to confuse enemies who rely on their sense of smell to find him.
