Enchu Nara in Naruto

Enchu Nara is one of the oldest members of the Nara Clan and personal adviser for his clan before Shikaku was chosen as the leader of the Nara Clan. He was quite impressed with Shikamaru's intelligence and wanted to make him a politician, but Shikamaru refused to be that because of so much hassle.

When Hoki learned that Shikamaru, the head of the Nara clan, wouldn't attend a banquet with his wife, he expressed disappointment. Hoki believed that Shikamaru should be doing more to improve the reputation of their clan, especially since there were concerns about Shikamaru's worthiness in marrying the eldest sister of the Fifth Kazekage.

Shikamaru assured Hoki that he was working hard on both clan matters and his duties to the village, but Hoki felt that Shikamaru's divided focus was affecting his son, Shikadai. Unbeknownst to Hoki, Shikadai overheard their conversation and felt a strong sense of responsibility to prove himself to the clan.

However, in the end, Shikadai declined the offer and instead focused on mastering both Nara clan techniques and Wind Release techniques to demonstrate the worth of the Nara clan and their potential alliance with the Kazekage family.
