The information related to the history of the creation of Four Red Yang Formation is shrouded with mystery. This barrier ninjutsu was first seen during the Fourth Great Ninja War. It was created by the previous Four Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village, namely Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi and Minato Namikaze.
