Futaba in Naruto

There is much uncertainty about Futaba's past as we still don't know anything about her clan or her history. In the manga or its anime adaptation, she only made a few brief appearances. She first debuted in Live or Die: Risk it All to Win it All!, episode 56 of the original Naruto series.

Futaba made her debut during the Chunin Exams Arc in the series. In the arc, she is introduced as a classmate of Konohamaru Sarutobi, grandchild of the Third Hokage, and a student in the ninja academy. In the episode, the Third Hokage teaches young students to always protect the people precious to them. Hiruzen later asks the class who they would protect. Futaba responds and tells Hiruzen that she would protect her family, her parents, her older brother, and Gonta, her dog.

Futaba later appeared in the Follow My Lead! The Great Survival Challenge Arc. In the anime, Futaba takes part in a survival exercise led by Neji Hyuga. Futaba and her team members are in awe of Neji's skill at using a watch as a compass to navigate.

Futaba hasn't shown up since these appearances and her absence makes it impossible to ascertain whether she's dead or alive. Futaba is currently assumed to be alive and well unless any information surfaces indicating otherwise.
