Not much is known about Giant Marlin’s past as it made little to no appearance in the anime. Additionally, it is only a part of the Naruto anime, making it a filler, non-canon character in the series.
Following the war, the Giant Marlin remained in the harbor of the Land of Fire and started attacking any boats that ventured into open waters. Yūsuke and his father attempted to capture it, but their efforts proved unsuccessful and tragically resulted in Yūsuke's father losing his life.

Giant Marlin debuted in the Paradise Life on a Boat arc. In the arc, Naruto Uzumaki, Aoba Yamashiro, Yamato, and Might Guy embark on a voyage to the Land of Lightning, but their journey takes an unexpected turn when they come face to face with the giant marlin. The creature attacks and destroys their ship, leaving them stranded in the ocean.
It's then that they encounter Yūsuke, a young man determined to catch the marlin. Despite his stubbornness, he confides in the team that he needs the right equipment to accomplish his goal. The following day, the team uses Yamato's Wood Release to provide Yūsuke with a proper boat and rod.
They track down the marlin and engage in a thrilling chase until Yūsuke finally catches it after an exhausting battle. Naruto discovers a fūma shuriken lodged in the marlin's forehead, which he removes. The marlin is then able to return to its home.
Giant Marlin is a summon and not much is known about its personality.
The giant marlin bears a striking resemblance to a regular marlin, but it is much larger in size, and several times bigger than a rowing boat. Its body and fins have a blue-grey hue, while its eyes are a bright shade of red. Its most notable feature is its snout, which is shaped like a double-edged sword and possesses extraordinary abilities.
For many years, the marlin carried a fūma shuriken stuck in its head, adding to its distinctiveness.
The marlin boasted a formidable sword-shaped extension at the tip of its snout. Its density was comparable to the wood generated by Yamato's Wood Release: Great Forest Technique, and it was powerful enough to wound Might Guy during their first encounter.
The marlin was also incredibly swift and could maintain its top speed for an extended period. To keep up with the marlin, Might Guy had to unlock five of the Eight Gates and row at an exceptional pace.
