Not much is known about Giant Panda’s past as it made a sparse appearance in the anime.
Giant Panda debuted in the Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant arc.
During Pain's intense battle with Jiraiya, the former summoned Giant Panda to protect himself from Jiraiya’s Sage Art: Hair Needle Senbon technique. This Giant Panda was able to endure the full force of Jiraiya's attack, shielding Pain from harm.
However, once the attack was over, Pain made the decision to release the creature, perhaps recognizing that it had served its purpose and that its continued presence was unnecessary.
Giant Panda is a summon and not much is known about its personality.
The Giant panda has a similar appearance to a regular panda bear, except for a few distinctive features. It has multiple large piercings all over its body and dons a black sash around its waist. Its Rinnegan eyes set it apart from ordinary pandas, and its arms and legs are entirely black, while the rest of its body is white. Additionally, black markings encircle its eyes, adding to its unique appearance.
Possessing a remarkable ability, the giant panda could harden its body to create a sturdy barrier, providing excellent defense for its summoner. Similar to other creatures summoned by Pain, it's possible that the panda had a shared field of vision with Nagato.
In addition to the Naruto manga and its anime adaptation, Giant Panda also appears in Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3.
The Ultimate Ninja Storm video game series features a Substitution item in the form of a Stuffed Giant Panda Doll.
In Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, Nagato incorporates the giant panda in his combat techniques, summoning it to crush his adversaries as part of his combos.
