Iroha made his debut in Jiraiya Shinobi Handbook: The Tale of Naruto the Hero. In the book, Iroha is dispatched with his other teammates on a mission. However, he was the only genin who was able to return to Konoha alive.
On his way back to the village, he sustained significant injuries from his mission. As soon he reached the gate of the village, he fell on the ground unconscious. He was spotted by the guards stationed at the gate and was admitted to Konoha Hospital.
Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, visited Iroha at the hospital and enquired him about his mission. Iroha wasn’t able to remember anything about the enemy he faced. The only thing he remembered was that he saw Ageha Butterflies.
