Karin and her mother were given refuge in Kusagakure with the condition that her mother would heal the village’s wounded under Zōsui’s watch. When the village suffered multiple casualties following a surprise attack, Karin’s mother performed her duties to heal the wounded at the Kusagakure hospital but later died by exhausting huge amounts of chakra. Hence, much to her dismay, Karin inherited the duty of her mother.
She took part in Chūnin Exams in Konoha along with her team where she was saved by Sasuke Uchiha when she was attacked by a bear after being separated from her teammates.
Soon after, during a conflict, Karin sensed a large crowd approaching the village she was staying in and hid while they attacked. After the village burned down, Orochimaru approached her and brought her to Otogakure. After studying Karin’s abilities, Orochimaru and Kabuto successfully replicated it and involved her in experiments with Jūgo and Kimimaro. She was later put in charge of the Southern Hideout.
Karin didn’t realize Sasuke was the boy who rescued her during the Chūnin Exams until she saw him for the first time when he joined Orochimaru. During their first formal meeting, Karin helped Sasuke recapture one hundred and eighteen test subjects from one of Orochimaru’s hideouts. She was later dispatched to the Eastern Hideout to deliver a vial to help with further research on Suigetsu.
Suigetsu escaped his chamber soon after Sasuke finished his duty which prompted Karin to join Sasuke and attempt to track and recapture Suigetsu. Karin repelled Suigetsu’s attack using her chakra chains and hauled him back to the hideout after knocking him out.
Karin was recruited by Sasuke as a member of Hebi for her special abilities. Sasuke sent out his teammates towards different directions in search of Itachi Uchiha, and while Karin was at it, she crossed Sakura Haruno, without either of them acknowledging each other.
Some time later, Karin tended to Sasuke’s wounds inflicted by Deidara’s suicide explosion. Karin sensed the Eight Man Squad while she was getting supplies. She warned Hebi about it and scattered Sasuke’s clothing to distract the squad from reaching him.
Karin stayed behind with Suigetsu, Jūgo and Kisame while Sasuke went on ahead to battle Itachi.
Hebi, now renamed the “Taka” joined the Akatsuki and they were tasked with capturing the Eight-Tails in Kumogakure. Karin stood on the sidelines as she watched Sasuke fighting Killer B. She healed Sasuke when he got wounded. She lends chakra through her arms to heal him quickly.
When Killer B sought to flee, she used her Mind’s Eye of the Kagura to track him down. She was saved by Jūgo when B charged at her. She insisted on reviving Sasuke after he was severely injured but Jūgo stepped in instead and transferred his flesh to Sasuke to heal him. Sasuke used the Amaterasu to stop Killer B from fully transforming into the Eight-Tails.
Karin pushed all of her comrades out of the line of one of Killer B’s tentacles but was hit by one in the process and some of the black flames spread to her cloak. After Sasuke extinguished it using his Mangekyō Sharingan, she was carried to safety by Jūgo. She sensed something was wrong with Sasuke but he dismissed her concerns. She detected an enemy outside their base, which Sasuke and Jūgo went to check.
After the Taka recovered, they made their way to the Land of Iron on the advice of Tobi who told them about the Kage Summit and suggested that Sasuke go after Danzō Shimura. Upon reaching, they stayed low until Zetsu revealed their presence to the Five Kage. Karin sensed Sasuke’s chakra growing darker, even more than when in his cursed seal level two state.
Karin hid her chakra when the Fourth Raikage ordered C to eliminate her. She started looking for Danzō after C was defeated by Sasuke. She informed Sasuke about Danzō’s location while still being worried about his chakra growing ominously by each second. She cried when Sasuke’s chakra disappeared after the Third Tsuchikage’s attack.
Tobi arrived with Sasuke on his shoulders and sent Karin with him to a different realm to heal him. Later, they both were released in front of Danzō at the Samurai bridge. Karin observed the battle between Sasuke and Danzō from a distance and wondered how Danzō managed to survive multiple fatal injuries. She learned about Danzō’s secret technique of his Sharingan embedded right arm and told Sasuke about keeping his distance until the Izanagi runs out.
Karin was taken hostage by Danzō and as she called out to Sasuke for help. He advised her to hold still and stabbed her through the chest, piercing Danzō’s heart in the process. Karin collapsed to the ground and had a flashback about her first meeting with Sasuke during the Chūnin Exams. She wanted to see his smile one last time before Sasuke was about to kill her but it got interrupted by Sakura’s arrival.
When Karin heard about Sakura willing to abandon Konoha to go along with Sasuke, she realized that Sakura has the same feelings as herself about Sasuke. Sasuke ordered Sakura to kill Karin to prove her loyalty but soon, Kakashi Hatake arrived and insisted Sakura to heal Karin. As Sakura sobbed while healing her, Karin stated that Sasuke is no longer the person Sakura once knew. Despite Karin’s warning, Sakura went on ahead to battle Sasuke.
After Naruto’s confrontation with Sasuke, Karin was told by Kakashi to accompany them to Konoha. On her way, she sensed Naruto’s chakra and noted to herself how opposite it is from Sasuke’s while also acknowledging the dark chakra deep within Naruto.
Upon arriving at Konoha, she was interrogated by Ibiki Morino to retrieve intel on Akatsuki, Sasuke and Kabuto Yakushi. She shared her tale of being forced into hard labor by Orochimaru and Sasuke deceiving her. While she was complaining, she demanded a bowl of deep fried pork cutlets before she could talk further. She noted the Konohagakure villagers to be cheerful and warm just like Naruto.
After being imprisoned for some time following the interrogation, Karin speaks to a portrait of Sasuke, initially expressing that he was calm but then instantly tossing the image down and cursing him for attempting to kill her. She uses the distraction provided by the guard to pry open the portrait with a hidden blade in her glasses, revealing a lock-pick set.
She observed Sasuke’s chakra in the village after fleeing from the jail and couldn’t believe it was him. She followed the signal just as Taka, Orochimaru, and the Hokage prepared to leave for the battlefield, attacking a fleeing Suigetsu over what had happened to her.
Sasuke’s apology for attacking her was welcomed with a mix of rage and glee but she was unable to remain furious with Sasuke and forgave him.
Karin, Suigetsu and Orochimaru came later to the battlefield where the five Kage were, with the latter remarking on Tsunade’s condition. Karin helped Tsunade by having the Fifth bite her to gain strength. However, she hesitated as she didn’t want anyone except Sasuke to profit from biting her.
Karin and Suigetsu get into a brawl over Karin’s obsession with Sasuke but are immediately stopped by Orochimaru when he threatens them with his snakes. She departs with Orochimaru and Suigetsu to the battlefield.
Karin is nearly consumed by her obsession with Sasuke to the point where she dismisses Suigetsu’s assessment of the Ten-Tails before catching herself and agreeing with him that the shinobi’s recuperation was vital.
Karin soon grows distressed after sensing Sasuke’s grave condition, believing that if nothing is done, Sasuke would perish. She entered the conflict, manifesting chains to shatter portions of the statue in order to save Sasuke. She bit herself to heal after being impaled by Tobi’s technique. She was grabbed by Jūgo, who removed the stakes and noted that she was fine but felt they had come too late because she could no longer sense Sasuke’s chakra.
Karin detected a chakra of someone she didn’t recognize as they hurried towards Sasuke’s location and warned her squad. She ran to Sasuke’s help at a breakneck pace, ignoring her own safety. Karin found the mysterious individual to be Kabuto, whose various alterations to himself caused his chakra signature to be too unusual for Karin to recognize. When she saw Kabuto merge his being with Sasuke, she became certain that Kabuto had harmed Sasuke but Kabuto explained that he no longer sought Sasuke and was instead focused on healing the young Uchiha.
After some time, Karin and the others were eventually apprehended by Madara’s Infinite Tsukuyomi.
Her dream inside the Infinite Tsukuyomi depicted Sasuke becoming the Sixth Hokage and the village besieged by her former Kusagakure allies. When Zōsui kidnapped her and forced her to heal the other again, she was saved and it was suggested that she had taken vengeance on the man for how he had wronged her in the past. While Sasuke held the frail Karin, she told him all she needed was for him to smile.
Later, she along with other shinobi were freed from the genjutsu by Naruto and Sasuke after the war concluded.
Four years after the war, Karin delivered Sasuke and Sakura’s baby. At some point during Sarada’s infancy, Karin gave the child a pair of glasses as a gift.
Karin has a volatile attitude; she will appear tough and in control at times, to the point of being harsh and critical, and incredibly flirty at others. She stated that she was attracted to men based on their chakra quality. Sasuke’s chakra used to enchant her but later worried her as it grew colder and darker as a result of his hatred. Naruto’s aura appeared to calm and dazzle her making her feel comfortable and relaxed owing to its warmth and brightness but she got terrified after sensing an evil chakra within him.
Karin always held a soft spot for Sasuke even after he betrayed her and nearly killed her during his clash with Danzō. She forgave him in an instant when he apologized to her before heading towards the battlefield during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
Her biggest desire, as revealed in her Infinite Tsukuyomi, is merely to watch Sasuke smile kindly at her. Despite her affection for Sasuke, Karin is content with the idea that he is happy with his new family. She also appears to have a soft spot for Sasuke and Sakura’s daughter. Her fury has also cooled a long way.
Karin has crimson eyes, fair complexion and the Uzumaki clan’s signature red hair which she wears in an odd hairstyle; her hair is short and spiky on the right side and longer and straight on the left. Her chest, neck and arms are covered in bite marks from people biting her to be healed, which are all masked by her costume.
Her costume consists of a lavender uniform that exposes her navel, short black shorts and long black thigh high stockings with black sandals. She wears brown narrow spectacles with a serrated blade hidden in time.
Karin wore a pouch around her stomach and subsequently, a black cloak when she became affiliated with Hebi. She wore an Akatsuki cloak with a hood instead of a high collar when associated with Akatsuki. When Taka decides to go to Konoha, she is seen wearing black clothing and black-rimmed spectacles.
She wears a long-sleeved white blouse with a purple tie and black cuffs on her wrists, black boots and black shorts years after the Fourth Great Shinobi War, and she has also shaved the left half of her head. Her bite marks appear to have healed as well.
Karin wore a mesh shirt and stockings, a purple skirt, a light brown short-sleeved jacket with an orange stripe across the chest, and black sandals when she was still in Kusagakure. She was also wearing the Kusagakure forehead protector.
Karin had short hair that reached her chin as a child and was dressed in a dark purple short-sleeved shirt with a brown collar, light brown slacks and brown sandals.
Karin has been praised for her abilities by Obito Uchiha and Orochimaru, the latter decided to recruit her for that reason. Despite the fact that Karin was largely a non-combatant, Orochimaru referred to her as one of his good experiments and had enough faith in her abilities to put her in charge of the Southern Hideout’s prison, because she made escape impossible. Karin used these abilities most prominently during the Fourth Shinobi World War, when she shattered much of Tobi’s massive wooden monument.
Karin is really brilliant. With vast knowledge at her disposal, she can devise creative techniques that aid in her missions. While being tailed by the Konoha shinobi, she deduced they were accomplishing this feat by locking on to and tracing Sasuke’s smell. She promptly devised a countermeasure to throw them off the trail by tearing up Sasuke’s sweat-soaked shirt and dispersing it in various places linked to birds.
She is analytical and capable of swiftly determining the basics of a complex technique like Izanagi. She is also resourceful, as evidenced by her hiding a blade in the frame of her glasses and a lock-pit set within a photograph that she appears to carry around with her, all the while putting on an act of fluctuating feelings for Sasuke in order to reduce the guard’s sense of security surrounding her. Furthermore, to ensure she kept the photograph, she pretended to be even more mentally unstable and generated less commotion with it, convincing the guards to allow her to keep it.
Karin possesses a special ability known as the Mind’s Eye of the Kagura, which allows her to detect the chakra signature of any target. Sasuke claims that her sensory abilities are unique. Unlike most sensors, Karin appears to be capable of detecting chakra targets without the need for conscious effort.
Karin can detect the presence of others, easily discerning a specific individual, even its species, from a great distance, allowing her to easily track the target. She can determine the size of her target’s chakra reserves and potency and even tell when someone was lying because dishonest emotions cause their chakra to fluctuate. Karin can also tell if one is trapped in genjutsu, including herself.
Karin possesses a highly powerful life-force being a descendant of the Uzumaki clan. This provides her with incredible longevity as well as vast supplies of chakra and vigor. Her inherited life-force also grants her powerful healing abilities, allowing her to quickly mend wounds and regenerate.
By biting herself and consuming some of her chakra, her healing becomes instantaneous. Similarly, she can heal others by letting them bite her. The potency of Karin’s healing chakra was enough to restore Tsunade’s chakra reserves.
Karin can materialize an unfinished version of the Adamantine Sealing Chains in combat. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, she was able to use the chains to combat and destroy Tobi’s massive wooden statue and its numerous arms. Karin is also skilled in the use of the Earth, Water, Yin and Yang Releases. She was also seen using the Mystical Palm Technique, though it is unclear how skilled she is in its application compared to a medical-nin.
(To Sasuke) “If you really want me to, Sasuke… I will follow you.”
(To herself about Sasuke) “…I just wanted… to see that face once more…”
(To herself about Sakura) “You’re the enemy… I don’t want to sympathize with you…so.. so don’t… don’t cry like that in front of me….! Damn it..”
(To herself about Sasuke) “Sasuke… I may have healed you a little, but this is too much.. actually.. forget it, I’m done with you.”
(To Suigetsu) “As long as Sasuke is happy, that’s all I care about. Besides, we women have a certain camaraderie between us you wouldn’t understand.”
