One night in Konohagakure, a mysterious castle called Mugen Castle appeared. Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru, and Hinata went to check it out. Inside, they met Princess Dusk, who used to be a bad guy but changed her ways. She was unhappy with Kiba and then got upset with Naruto and the others, though she didn't explain why.
As they explored the castle, they found a special tag that had been used to summon the castle. When they removed it, they saw a vision of another princess named Kasumi, who cared for her guards and a maid. Princess Dusk created illusions to stop them from going further. Later, they found more illusions created by Princess Dusk, including ones of Choji and Ino. But the real Choji and Ino arrived to help.
When they removed the second seal, they saw another vision of Princess Kasumi giving a ribbon to a young girl. Princess Dusk warned them that removing the seals was making the castle stronger and taking the life energy from the village. But Naruto was determined to save the village.
Princess Dusk tried to trick them with an illusion of Gaara, but Naruto defeated it. She created more Gaara copies, but Kakashi arrived and used his Lightning Cutter to defeat them. Princess Dusk started to fade away, saying that trickery wouldn't work on her.
Thanks to Kakashi's help, Naruto and his friends moved on to the fourth seal and removed it. This time, they saw Princess Kasumi promising to fill Castle Dusk with happiness and laughter. The people she had given gifts to before returned the favor by giving her a music box, and she enjoyed its song.
Kakashi explained that these visions were the memories of Castle Dusk, which had become the Mugen Castle they were in. Each seal they removed released these memories.
Everything seemed good in the memories until they met Might Guy, who had removed a seal. Things took a dark turn after they removed the sixth seal. They saw a vision of the castle on fire, with people being attacked by Konoha. This made Princess Dusk really angry at Naruto and the others. She summoned an illusion of Itachi Uchiha to fight them. When they defeated it, she ran away. Shikamaru put the pieces together, and they realized that Princess Dusk was Princess Kasumi.
As Naruto reached the seventh seal, he started to doubt his actions. However, Kakashi returned after meeting Jiraiya, and they decided to remove the seal to find out who was behind it. They discovered that Orochimaru had attacked Princess Kasumi's home. He had tricked her into wearing a mask, the same mask that Princess Dusk was now wearing, promising tremendous power.
But as long as she held onto her anger, the mask wouldn't come off, and her spirit would remain tied to the castle. Naruto was furious at Orochimaru's deception and went to find Princess Dusk to tell her the truth. However, she didn't listen and sent illusions of Kisame Hoshigaki and Shizune to fight them. Naruto and his friends defeated both illusions.
With the help of three other beings from the visions, Naruto and his friends found important items that had meant a lot to Princess Kasumi when she was alive. These items were charms, a ribbon, and a music box. When they approached Kasumi and showed her these items, her mask started to crack.
After a battle with more illusions, Princess Dusk fled but was cornered by Kabuto. He threatened to seal her soul in a scroll unless she defeated Naruto's team one last time. Despite her efforts, she failed. Naruto then showed her the music box, which made her mask crack further, and she began to regain control of herself.
As she fled, Kabuto arrived and prepared to seal her soul. Naruto chased after Kasumi, determined to break her mask completely. When he reached her, Kabuto used a powerful Genjutsu to paralyze him. Naruto, however, protected Kasumi by taking the hit of the technique, having his vitality sealed into Kabuto's scroll. He did this because he saw Kasumi as a friend, not an enemy, and believed in his ninja way of protecting others.
Just when Kabuto was about to harm Naruto, Gaara arrived and fought him off. Kakashi stayed to help Naruto, while the others chased after Kabuto. Gaara managed to defeat Kabuto and retrieve the scroll, freeing Naruto's vitality. Naruto returned Kasumi's music box to her, and her mask completely shattered, revealing her true face. She then joined them in destroying the castle.
They headed to the castle's top floor to finish their mission, but Kabuto appeared with an illusion of Tsunade, revealing that Kasumi wasn't the one controlling the illusions in the castle. She had channeled them as the castle absorbed vitality. Naruto and Kasumi continued forward while the others faced Kabuto and more illusions.
Naruto found the last scroll, which contained Kasumi's real body trapped in a crystal. Orochimaru suddenly appeared and taunted Naruto, claiming it was too late. Naruto faced Orochimaru twice, first in a regular battle and then with the power of the Nine-Tails' chakra. He managed to defeat Orochimaru, but it became an illusion.
Using the little chakra, he had left and the faith of Princess Kasumi and everyone from Castle Dusk, along with his friends, Naruto unleashed a powerful Rasengan that shattered the crystal and destroyed the Mugen Castle for good.
After all the events, Naruto said his goodbyes to Kasumi's spirit and thanked her for her wish. The castle started to crumble. When everything was normal, Tsunade sent Team 7 on a "special" mission.
They arrived at their destination, which was a beautiful field of flowers. Kakashi explained that this field was where Castle Dusk had once been, and it had been a lifeless place until the Mugen Castle was destroyed. Their mission was to figure out why this change had occurred.
Naruto had a feeling and smiled as he believed that this transformation was thanks to Kasumi, and her last words before completely disappearing were "thank you."
Princess Kasumi looked like a priestess with long, dark hair. She was dressed in a white kimono, and around her neck, she wore a black choker. She also wore a special mask with a red snake on the left side, and this mask was given to her by Orochimaru.
In her hair, there was an ornament that Jiraiya had given her. This ornament had a bellflower on it, which symbolized "gratitude." Fans can learn more about this when playing Jiraiya's part of the story.
Kasumi has some unique abilities as she can use her mask to create illusions and make people believe in things that aren't real. This power feeds on her hatred. She can also block special eye powers while people are inside the castle. Kasumi is closely connected to the castle, so she can sense when other ninjas are getting closer.
Her powers are strong enough to turn illusions into real threats, like the copies of Gaara and the attacks on Naruto. She has a special type of chakra, which is yellow-orange and feels warm. When Naruto used this chakra, he created a powerful Rasengan that could break the crystal holding Kasumi's real body, which was protected by a strong chakra shield.
