Kiku made his debut in the Mujina Bandits Arc in the New Era. In the arc, Kiku is introduced as a prisoner at the Hozuki Castle. Kiku formed a friendship with Kedama, a fellow prisoner, while they were both imprisoned at Hozuki Castle. Kedama's defiance towards the guards impressed Kiku, and they decided to escape together. Utilizing his father's fishing expertise, Kiku was able to accurately predict the upcoming rain despite the clear skies.

They planned to use the rain to remove the Heavenly Prison seal that had been placed on them. However, Kedama was skeptical of Kiku's prediction and arrived too late to execute the plan. Tragically, Kiku was caught by Benga and the seal was activated, resulting in his death. Kedama arrived just in time to witness the devastating outcome.
