After Gato's death, Kusabi considered stealing from the Land of Waves as a way to make up for losing his source of income. However, when the villagers, Naruto, and Kakashi used the Shadow Clone Technique to increase their numbers and oppose them, Kusabi and the other mercenaries fled.
Later, Kusabi joined a group led by Zori and Waraji who kidnapped Inari and his friends. Kusabi drank alcohol while his comrade dreamt of gaining money and power. They chased after the escaped children. When they encountered Naruto and Sasuke, who defeated Waraji, Kusabi, Zori, and the others tried to escape but were stopped by the villagers led by Tazuna. The villagers fired crossbows at them, and they surrendered, falling to their knees. They were then tied up and handed over to the authorities.
Kusabi is greedy and cruel. He wants to make a name for himself but he is also a coward, as was seen in the anime when the Land of Waves group attacked and he ran away.
Kusabi had brown hair tied into four sections with decorations. He covered his eyes with a red cloth that had holes for seeing. He carried a long pole-like weapon with a ring at the top.
Kusabi was skilled in using a pole-like weapon as he has shown his proficiency with that particular type of weapon.
