The five main chakra natures that a shinobi in the Naruto series can use are Fire Release, Water Release, Earth Release, Wind Release, and Lightning Release. Most shinobi only possess a single chakra nature while there are some who possess two or three chakra natures, which are classified as Kekkei Genkai and Kekkei Tota, respectively. Very few shinobi are capable of using all five chakra natures. Lightning release techniques are among the most dangerous since they have the potential to do a lot of damage.
The majority of Lightning release-based jutsus feature a stream or bolt of lightning running through the user’s weapon or hand. Only shinobis who possess the Lightning Release chakra nature are capable of using Lightning Style Jutsu.

The creation of Lightning Style Jutsu dates back to the Ancient Era. When Indra Otsutsuki initially invented hand signs, he was seen using lightning release techniques on multiple occasions. Many people were able to use various fire release procedures when hand signals were widely adopted. Over time, many strong lightning-release jutsus were created.
To perform a lightning-style jutsu, the user initially needs to convert their chakra into electricity. It is easier to channel that lightning chakra into a weapon or tool which increases the damage of the weapon or adds a numbing effect upon strike.
Kakashi Hatake simply gathered his lightning chakra into his hand for his Chidori, which was also known as the Lightning Cutter, as he once cut a lightning bolt with his Chidori. With Chidori, Kakashi can inflict piercing damage to its target. Sasuke Uchiha often increases the range and destructive power of his Chidori by adding chakra form to it.
Shinobi from the Village Hidden in the Clouds are famous for their mastery of lightning-style jutsus. They often use lightning release techniques with unique variations.
Darui uses a special Black Lightning which he inherited from the Third Raikage. C, one of the bodyguards of Third Raikage, showcased his unique blend of lightning release in Genjutsu, which makes it easier to infiltrate the opponent’s senses. The Fourth Raikage covers his body with lightning chakra which gives him a boost in speed and physical strength. This technique is known as Lightning Release Chakra Mode (Lightning Release Armor).
Chidori is a lightning-style ninjutsu invented by Kakashi Hatake of the Hidden Leaf Village. Kakashi gathers his lightning-release chakra in his hand which is capable of inflicting several piercing injuries upon contact. This technique generates a sound that resembles the sound of a hundred birds chirping, hence the name, Chidori. Kakashi was once able to cut a lightning bolt with this technique, which gave it the nickname, Lightning Cutter.
This technique is executed with great force and speed which creates a fish eye effect and narrows the user’s point of view, which opens the user to a risk of counterattack. Due to this drawback, Chidori can only be used accompanied by a Sharingan.
This jutsu was one of the signature moves of Kakuzu. By performing this ninjutsu, the user is capable of emitting a lightning spear from their mouth which carries enough destructive power to pierce through a boulder. Kakuzu is the only known user of this deadly technique up until now.
Hell Stab was a lightning-release ninjutsu possessed by the Third Raikage of the Hidden Cloud Village. This technique was unique to the Third Raikage, A, and was his deadliest move. He would focus an insane amount of lightning chakra in the fingertips of his one hand, and attack with it in a thrust motion. This technique caused piercing damage, somewhat similar to Lightning Blade, but believed to be with greater destructive power.
This technique had three variants, each with a different finger count. The potency and destructive power are increased as the number of fingers decreases. One-Finger Nukite, also known as the One Fingered Assault, was the deadliest of these variants.
Kamui Lightning Blade is an ability that Kakashi Hatake used to possess. Kakashi imbued his Six Paths Chakra and empowered Lightning Blade with Kamui. This ninjutsu attacked at an insane speed and teleported the pierced part of the target to the Kamui Dimension.
Sasuke Uchiha created the deadly lightning jutsu, Kirin. To perform this technique, Sasuke draws lightning from the thunder clouds in the environment and then controls it with his chakra. This technique does not require Sasuke’s chakra as it uses natural lightning. As stated by Zetsu, Kirin strikes the ground in 1/1000th of a second, which makes it impossible to evade.
Indra’s Arrow is yet another incredible technique created by Sasuke Uchiha. Sasuke performed this jutsu in his final battle against Naruto Uzumaki. Sasuke used the nine-tailed-beasts chakra that he absorbed and his Perfect Susanoo to perform this technique.
This ninjutsu uses a lightning bow to shoot a lightning arrow at the target which is executed by Sasuke’s Perfect Susanoo. This is the strongest offensive jutsu in Sasuke’s arsenal.
Liger Bomb is lightning-style ninjutsu used by the Fourth Raikage in the anime. The Fourth Raikage covers his body in the Lightning Chakra Mode and then uses his heightened speed and strength to lift and smash his opponent into the ground head-first, which leaves the surrounding ground area shattered.
This is a certain kill technique and no one has ever survived a direct hit from this attack, as stated by Darui. Sasuke Uchiha was able to survive a hit from it by using his Susanoo’s Ribs to cushion the blow, but it still shattered the Susanoo’s ribs.

To replace Chidori, Kakashi came up with Purple Lightning, which is believed to be more potent and destructive than Chidori.
