Rin’s Background

Rin spent her childhood playing with her closest friend Obito Uchiha whom she always cheered on whenever he struggled. On the day of their entrance ceremony in the Academy, Rin was present and as Obito arrived late, Kakashi made remarks about him being irresponsible as he didn’t make it in time for the entrance ceremony. Rin handed over Obito’s entrance documents to him for which he was very thankful to her. As Kakashi graduated earlier than any other of his classmates from the academy, Rin was the first to congratulate him.

A few years after graduating from the academy, Rin was put into Team Minato, alongside her childhood friend Obito and her former classmate Kakashi, with Minato Namikaze as their Team Leader.

During the team’s first gathering, Minato tasked his students with taking two bells from him as their final test to become a genin. Initially, the three of them worked independently. Later, Kakashi insisted Rin and Obito work as a team with him in order to take the bells. Together, the three managed to pull the task off finishing the final test i.e. Showing Teamwork.

Later, during the Chūnin exams, Kakashi and Rin stood outside the gates of the Forest of Death, waiting for Obito to arrive. In the forest, they were confronted by Might Guy, Ebisu and Genma Shiranui. Obito made the first move and was immediately knocked down by Might Guy. Rin later dressed his wounds as he talked about his dreams of becoming the Hokage while proudly pointing at his Clan’s symbol.

She later watched Kakashi fight with Guy with much anticipation during the third round of Chunin exams. When Kakashi was promoted to Jōnin rank, Rin assembled a secret celebration for him in which several of her classmates participated, much to Obito’s dismay as he wanted to use the moment to confess his love to Rin.

Rin during the Third Shinobi World War

Team Minato was assigned to destroy the Kannabi Bridge. During the mission, Rin gets kidnapped by Taiseki, a shinobi belonging to the Hidden Stone Village. She was put under a genjutsu by Kakkō (another Hidden Stone Shinobi), in order to reveal any sensitive information about Konoha. However, Rin proved to be ultimately strong and didn’t break under the enemy's genjutsu.

Kakashi and Obito soon came to her rescue. Although they succeeded in retrieving her, Obito got crushed by a cave-in caused by Kakkō. Moments after this, Obito awakens his Sharingan and insists that Rin should transplant his left eye into Kakashi, which he said would be a gift for being promoted to Jōnin Rank. Rin began the procedure, and after a while the rocks were beginning to crumble down all around them. They were forced to flee the area as reinforcements from Hidden Stone had arrived and the cave-in continued.

After Kakashi’s recovery, the team went on to complete their mission of destroying the bridge. Rin was sent out on this mission with Kakashi and Guy. Guy distracts the Hidden Stone Shinobi and Kakashi goes after him. Rin later returns with backup from Konoha causing the enemy to retreat.

Sometime after the events at the Kannabi bridge, Rin gets secretly kidnapped by Madara under the impression of the Hidden Mist’s doing and gets the Three-Tails sealed inside of her. The strategy was set to destroy the Hidden Leaf. A cursed seal tag was placed inside Rin which would let loose the tailed beast once she and Kakashi returned to the village. She was soon rescued by Kakashi.

As they were escaping, they were followed by the Hidden Mist Anbu. Rin asked Kakashi to kill her when she realized what had happened to her while she was kidnapped. Kakashi refuses her request as he promised Obito that he would protect her at all costs. Rin, later, decides to commit suicide to protect her village.

Rin’s Death

When Rin and Kakashi were confronted by the Hidden Mist Anbu, Kakashi activated his Chidori to battle against the lot. Using the opportunity, Rin jumped right into its path, impaling herself and dying in front of the boy she liked, with the two of them being unaware of Obito’s presence. She whispered Kakashi’s name during her final moments and laid down on the ground after losing her heartbeat. Her death left the enemy stunned and horrified Kakashi and Obito. Moments after, Kakashi passed out due to exhaustion and Obito went on a rampage, slaughtering all of the enemy ninja in sight, before holding Rin’s body and promising to her that he would create a world where they would reunite again. In the afterlife, Rin watched over Obito just as she had promised to him and waited for him to join her someday.

There is no confirmation about what happened to Rin’s body later. It was presumably taken back to Konoha and cremated at the Konoha cemetery, or it was buried by Obito himself.

Rin’s death left a heavy impact on her teammates Kakashi and Obito. Kakashi was shown to be traumatized for years following Rin’s death and Obito’s presumed death. For a brief amount of time, Kakashi was unable to rejoice with his former classmates and was proactively involved in missions during his time in Anbu. Kakashi couldn’t feel his lost companionship back until he was put in charge of Team 7.

On the other hand, Obito’s witness to Rin’s death changed his philosophy about the Shinobi world. As he was already under Madara’s spell prior to Rin’s death, his doubts were confirmed by this fateful event. Obito went on his quest to create a world that he believed would bring about peace to the shinobi world and an era that would be the end of all wars.

Rin in the Afterlife

Rin reappeared in the afterlife with Obito following Obito’s death at the hands of Kaguya Otsutsuki. As she meets him again, she talks about him losing his path and that she always watched over him. Obito talks about failing to fulfill his promise of becoming the Hokage and getting lost along the way, to which Rin assured him that he still did his best. She holds his hand and asks him to follow her to the other side. Obito asks her to wait a little longer as he sets out to help Kakashi one last time. Rin teased him that despite all the petty fights and arguments between the two of them, they were still close friends, to which Obito gets embarrassed. Rin watches as Obito transports to the living world to support Kakashi in defeating Kaguya.

Rin Nahora’s Personality

Rin was a kind and caring person who deeply cared about her friends and she often played the role of the peacemaker between Obito and Kakashi’s petty brawls and arguments. She was also an intellectual individual who performed medical ninjutsu at a very young age.

Rin was a devoted Shinobi and she was very perceptive as seen in events where she was kidnapped by the Hidden Stone shinobis and didn’t reveal her village’s secrets. Later, when she was made a jinchuriki by Madara in order to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village, she committed suicide to prevent the attack on her village.

Rin had romantic feelings for Kakashi which she confessed soon after Obito got caught in the cave-in. She cared very deeply about Obito and she promised to always watch over him. She was Obito’s childhood friend and always stood by his side and spent most of her time around him. She was the first person who acknowledged him as an individual and as a ninja. She was always there to help him with anything, whether it was treating his wounds or giving him moral support. Rin was confident that he would one day fulfill his dreams of becoming the Hokage.

When Obito was presumed dead, she was deeply saddened and she mourned him. Rin was never disappointed with Obito’s actions after her death and she assured him that he did his best even if he couldn’t become the Hokage. She asked him to follow her into the afterlife, holding his hands.

Rin’s Appearance

Rin was of average height, with a fair complexion and chin-length hair, straight and brown in color and with brown eyes. When she was a child, her hair was long hanging to the top of her shoulders. She also had purple markings on either side of her cheeks. She wore a long-sleeved black top and a light purple apron skirt, under which she wore black shorts. She wore a standard Konoha headband protector with a pair of sandals. She also wore red stockings that stopped at her thighs, and adorned a red bracelet on her left wrist. During missions, she would carry her backpack for equipment instead of a pouch. In the academy, she wore a simple outfit consisting of a light-colored blouse with a bow tied in the middle and a simple sleeveless haori. As a genin, she wore a light purple outfit with shuriken patterns all over it with a belt around her waist and several pouches. Underneath it, she wore chain-mail armor and calf-length sandals. During her mission with Kakashi and Might Guy, she wore a standard Konoha flak jacket over her light purple shuriken patterned outfit.

Rin’s Abilities

Rin was a strong and dependable kunoichi. She was able to resist leaking any information to the enemy when she was under Kakkō’s genjutsu. She was also shown to have basic taijutsu skills during the bell test.

She was able to release Fire, Water and Yang transformation. Besides these, she specialized in medical ninjutsu at a very young age. She even taught basic first aid to her teammates. Her primary duty in combat was to tend to the wounds of her teammates. Despite her young age, she possessed brilliant skills in Medical Ninjutsu which surfaced when she transplanted Obito’s left eye Sharingan into Kakashi’s damaged eye socket. The circumstances demanded a quick response as the enemy reinforcements were closing in on them. She fulfilled her duty in mere moments with just basic medical tools, proving her skills in the medical ninjutsu.
