Sandayu hired Team Kakashi to protect Yukie and take her to the Land of Snow. He suggested this location to Yukie's movie director with the goal of restoring her as the rightful heir to the throne that Doto Kazahana had taken. Doto appeared on the movie set when they arrived in the Land of Snow.
Later, Sandayu led a group of 50 samurai to attack Doto, seeking revenge for Sosetsu Kazahana's death, who was Doto's brother and Koyuki's father, killed by Doto ten years earlier. Unfortunately, Doto's ninja subordinates launched deadly attacks from their train compartments, wiping out Sandayu's entire group. Before his death and after Dotō retreated, Sandayu told Koyuki not to cry for him.
