When does Naruto meet his Mom?

Naruto grew up not knowing who his parents were which lead to a life of loneliness. His parents passed away right after he was born, so he was orphaned his entire life. He also had no clue how his mother looked or even sounded like, until he met her.

However, Naruto meets his mother, Kushina Uzumaki in Episode 246 of Naruto Shippuden. In this episode, Naruto meets Kushina Uzumaki, who he thinks is a form of the Nine-tails. However, he realises that it was his mother, and embraces her.

Summary of the Episode

Naruto was trying to take over the Nine-tails in order to borrow its chakra in the previous episode. In this episode, Naruto uses his Rasengan enhanced with Senjutsu against Kurama. However, he sees that it is ineffective. Naruto gets crushed by Kurama’s claws, but only for Kurama to find out that it was a Shadow Clone. It allows Naruto to perform a sneak attack on Kurama by sending another Shadow Clone at him. This Shadow Clone holds Kurama by his tail and flips him over.

The real Naruto then throws a Rasenshuriken at Kurama and begins to siphon his Chakra. Instead of submitting, Kurama counters Naruto by sending his hatred and malice through instead. Naruto then transforms into his tailed fox mode, and realises he must leave into the real world. At that moment, he hears a voice that tells him to stay.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Yamato and Killer B were monitoring Naruto. They are surprised to see half of Naruto’s body as himself and the other half as the Nine-tails. Back in the world Naruto is in, he sees a red haired woman. He accuses her of being the Nine-tails’ fox spirit, upon which he gets hit by Kushina. She wonders why Minato never mentioned her to him and if he got any bad habits from her. Hearing this, he realises that the person infront of him is his mother.

While Naruto rushes forward to hug her, Kurama is sealed by Adamantine Sealing chains and immediately recognizes that it is Kushina’s doing. Kushina and Naruto have a whole-hearted mother-to-son conversation. Kushina explains that Minato sealed a bit of her Chakra inside him so that if Naruto was ever trying to take control of the fox, she could lend him a hand.

While Naruto is awestruck at how beautiful Kushina is, she says she was glad that he inherited his fathers hair. Naruto responds by saying that if he had things his way, he would choose to have his mother’s red hair. Kushina smiles and says that him and his father are the only people who ever complimented her hair. He asks Kushina how they met – a question he always wanted to know the answer to.

Kushina then starts telling the story. She was never a native of the Hidden Leaf, but attended the academy there. She was bullied for being an outsider and for having red hair, which was uncommon at that point of time. She would respond to everyone who harassed her by beating them in return. One day, the older brother of a boy she beat up would confront and assault her, but she fought them back and sent them running. Kushina sees Minato just standing there watching this entire thing, and gets mad at him for not intervening or helping her out.

One day, a few Hidden Cloud Ninja kidnapped Kushina. As she was being taken away, she dropped strands of her hair on the way so someone would notice it. Surprisingly, Minato shows up and defeats all her kidnappers and takes her back to the leaf. Minato tells her that he found her hair beautiful and noticed the trail right away and followed it to get her back. He says that the reason he never intervened before was because he thought that she was strong enough to fend everyone off on her own. Kushina falls in love with Minato at that moment, a feeling he reciprocated.

Episode Highlight

Kushia is taken away by ninja from the Hidden Cloud, and she leaves a trail of her hair behind. Minato notices this, follows it and defeats the Hidden Cloud Ninja all by himself and saves Kushina. The two fell in love at this moment.

This scene is the reason why Minato and Kushina got together, to create Naruto in the future. Without it, they never would have even got together as Minato would have been a distant observer and Kushina mad at him for never noticing.
