The titular hero of Boruto himself, Boruto Uzumaki is the eldest child of Naruto Uzumaki and his wife Hinata Hyuga. He also has a younger sister, Himawari, whom he is secretly terrified of after a certain incident lead to her awakening her Byakugan and incapacitating both himself and their father in her rage. He dreams of becoming one of the greatest Shinobi in the world much like his father and his mentor, Sasuke Uchiha.
Boruto bears great similarities to his father in both physical appearance and personality, being an energetic and loud kid. He does have some notable differences however as while Naruto was orphaned and left alone, Boruto is fortunate enough to have been surrounded by a caring and loving family. Not only that, he did not have to endure the stigma of being a pariah in the village due to hosting the Nine Tails within him. This leaves him free of much of the trauma and angst that plagued Naruto’s actions in his younger years. On the flipside, however, he can come off as spoiled and arrogant which has made him ignorant of the great fortune he has as the son of a Hokage and very strong shinobi genes being a direct descendant of the Hyuga clan via his mother.
After Naruto’s coronation to Hokage, Boruto felt neglected by his father’s inability to spend time with him and his family. This leads him to grow a disdain for the title which causes him to butt heads with one of his closest friends in Sarada Uchiha who dreams of one day becoming Hokage herself. Eventually, Boruto matures after certain events cause him to see the amount of duress and responsibility Naruto endures for the sake of the village and by proxy, his family, and becomes more curious as to how his father became so strong. Instead, he seeks to support Sarada, and in the process learn what he can from her father Sasuke as his pupil.

As the son of Naruto who was in line to become the Seventh Hokage and a mixture of two fantastic shinobi bloodlines, Boruto has great expectations placed onto him. However, there are times, such as when he crashed a carriage into the Hokage stone face monument the Hidden Leaf is known for, he does seem to have more leniency than his father did in the past. This earns him the ire of some of his classmates who believes he gets preferential treatment because of who his father is. While this may be true in some circumstances, his level of prowess display at his age shows that it certainly isn’t without merit.
Over the course of his time at the academy, thanks to his Jogan eye that he cannot quite fully control, he is able to assist several people in the village by expelling a dark chakra. This caused them to act in unusually aggressive ways, including his own classmates and even teacher Shino Aburame. Boruto was certain that this power was the Byakugan, although after a visit to the Hyuga family household and a vicious trouncing by his aunt, and head of the family, Hanabi finally convinced him otherwise.
After repeated cases of these dark chakra incidents and even a trip to the Land of Water, Boruto and his friends would be put up against several of their instructors as well as the sixth Hokage in Kakashi Hatake himself. But much like his father before him, Boruto fails to acquire his bell but Kakashi passes him and his classmates for their displays of teamwork. Things from there quickly progressed as he displayed his immense talents as a ninja with his first mission being against trained shinobi. That’s a task typically thought to be far above what a typical genin could manage which saw Boruto, and his newly formed Team 7 consisting of Sarada Uchiha and Mitsuki, recommended by Konohamaru to take part in the Chunin Exams.
During the events of the Chunin Exams, Boruto is caught using an illegal ninja tool called a Kote. Furious from this action, Naruto disqualifies his son from the exams which causes Boruto to lash out at him. Their familial spat would have to wait, as the arena is attacked by Momoshiki and Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki. While Naruto and Sasuke do the heavy lifting, Boruto does play a significant part in defeating these threats. It is not without cost however, as Momoshiki reappears and freezes time to brand a seal upon Boruto, the Kama. It would play a large part in his future development as a shinobi, but not without potentially great cost…..
As the child of the union of two of the strongest shinobi bloodlines in the world, Boruto is nothing short of a prodigy. His Uzumaki blood grants him an enormous baseline reserve of chakra even without the hosting of a tailed beast within him, and his Hyuga blood grants him a level of control that is far above what someone his age should be able to manage.
He is far and away the most talented of the students at the Konoha academy and placed highest among them in their Genin exams.
He is capable of using advanced jutsu such as the Rasengan and Shadow Clones, and even managed to accomplish what neither Kakashi Hatake or Minato Namikaze could in infusing the former with a Lightning Nature. He is even capable of throwing it, dubbing this technique the “Vanishing Rasengan” due to it appearing the vanish upon launch
Boruto is also notably more refined in close quarters combat than his father was at his age, who tended to use the sheer numbers granted by his Shadow Clone jutsu to overwhelm his foes. He is a very skilled taijutsu user and as the descendant of the Hyuga clan, he was also taught the basics of the Gentle Fist, although he cannot use it to target chakra points due to the lack of Byakugan awakening
Early on in his Academy experience, Boruto awakens to his own unique Dōjutsu known as the Jogan, which allows him to see the flow of chakra within a person as well as track him. He cannot fully control its activation at first, although much later on he gains the ability to do so. After the defeat of Momoshiki, he also bears the mark of Kama, which grants him a massive boost in power as well as the ability to absorb chakra. This power is not without its dangers however, as overuse could potentially allow the resurgence of Momoshiki.
“Please, make me your disciple! There’s someone I really want to defeat no matter what!”
“I’ll walk my own path.”
“You’ve got your circumstances. Well so does everyone else but they come here despite them. Don’t stand in their way!”
“To me, the Hokage is just a path. Just because my grandpa and dad are Hokage, doesn't mean that I have to walk the same path. Sarada… What I'm really aiming for is to become a shinobi like your dad. ”
“A real shinobi can pull a prank without them even noticing!”
The major confrontations that define Boruto’s young career as a shinobi as well as display a large amount of his skillset are his contributions in his fight with Momoshiki alongside his dad and mentor, as well as against Kawaki, who also inherited the essence of an Otsutsuki and has a very similar Kama powerset.
Q. Why is Boruto’s logo a screw?
A. Boruto’s name is the japanese pronunciation of the word “Bolt”. It even plays off the fact he has innate lightning chakra nature.
Q. How old is Boruto?
A. Boruto’s age varies depending on the timeline. He is first seen as a baby, then during his movie appearance he is 12 years old.
Q. Can Boruto use the Byakugan?
A. No, as his Jogan is a different type of visual jutsu than the Byakugan, even though he could still potentially unlock the usage of it.
