Deidara was loyal to the Akatsuki and harbored a desire to defeat Itachi, who had made him question his idea of art. He had found Itachi’s eyes beautiful and wanted to destroy them some day. When he was ultimately cornered, Deidara blew himself up in an attempt to kill Sasuke Uchiha, who like Itachi had refused to acknowledge his art.

Deidara was a Shinobi from the Hidden Rock Village who was trained by Onoki, the Third Tsuchikage. He had the Explosion Release, a Kekkei Genkai, which he used as a part of the explosion corps of the village. Deidara was praised for his skills in sculpting out of clay.
However, he was not satisfied with the way things were. He wanted to improve his art further and stole a Forbidden Jutsu from his village. It allowed one to knead Chakra into substances. After combining this with his Kekkei Genkai, he managed to invent a new Jutsu; Art of a Single Moment. Combining the Forbidden Jutsu with clay, he could create explosive sculptures.
With this newly attained skill, he abandoned his city and worked as a terrorist bomber for many countries. The Akatsuki caught wind of this and decided to recruit him. Itachi, Kisame and Sasori were sent to get him to join them. Deidara refuses to join at first, at which point they challenge him to a duel where the winner could decide Deidara’s choice. Itachi defeats Deidara using his Sharingan’s Genjutsu.
A bitter Deidara reluctantly joins the Akatsuki, and he is partnered with Sasori to kill Orochimaru for betraying the organization. Orochimaru escapes, but they are not sure whether they killed him or not. After a while, Deidara goes back to the Hidden Rock and blows up their infrastructure before flying away.
Deidara never forgot what Itachi did to him, and always wanted to take revenge on Itachi. Upon encountering Sasuke Uchiha, he was reminded of his desire for vengeance. They fought out an intense battle, where they were on par with each other until Sasuke had Deidara cornered. This, combined with his hatred for the Sharingan, causes Deidara to decide to blow himself up to take out Sasuke, ultimately causing his own death. His sacrifice is in vain as Sasuke survived the blast.
Deidara is an incredibly powerful Shinobi. The fact that he was recognized by the Akatsuki itself is a testament to his strength. Deidara could take down Gaara, the Kazekage who was also a Jinchuriki, all by himself despite fighting in his home territory.
Not much is known about Deidara’s chakra reserves, but he might have quite a large one, considering his explosions are all powered by Chakra and he can cause non-stop explosions for a really long time. He could also knead Chakra into clay, showing his superior Chakra control.
Deidara does not do much physically. Most of his attacks are ranged and focused on getting his bombs to hit the target. However, his reflexes are not to be underestimated. He was quickly able to counter Sasuke Uchiha’s lightning style with his intelligence and he used his reflexes to execute it.
Deidara mainly relied on his Kekkei Genkai and his secret art. However, he also had a few other tricks up his sleeve. These are Deidara’s special abilities:
By combining Earth and Lightning Chakra natures, Deidara was able to create the explosion release. This is the ability that allowed him to create explosions.
This is a Forbidden Jutsu that belonged to the Hidden Rock Village. Deidara stole this technique from the Hidden Stone and used it to further his art skills. It allowed him to create explosive clay and also attached a mouth to his arm.
Thanks to his rivalry with Itachi Uchiha, Deidara had an enhanced eye which resisted Genjutsu. Although it took lots of training, this eye allowed him to see through Genjutsu by contracting his pupil. He also had a scope on this eye, which allowed him to see long distances.
The first time Deidara is introduced to the series, he is seen as a menacing threat to all of humanity as he absolutely obliterates the Kazekage and takes him away easily, showing just how big a threat the Akatsuki is.
A long fight where Deidara stands on the same level as Sasuke despite being at a large elemental disadvantage. Sasuke is also forced to use his curse mark transformation which he obtained from Orochimaru.
A battle of art, where Deidara, even though it was for just a few seconds, believes that Itachi is true art, more than his own creations. This is a largely one sided battle where Itachi traps Deidara in a genjutsu.
"True art… is an explosion!!!"
“Fine art is the beauty of that single fleeting moment of explosion.”
“Cower in awe! Cry your heart out! Because my art… is an explosion!!!”
"Those eyes make me sick! Always judging me and my art! You have no appreciation of the beauty of my work and it makes me want to kill you!"
"Life is only beautiful because it is fleeting.”
A. Deidara did not survive after blowing himself up. Instead, he was reanimated by Kabuto during the war.
A. No, Deidara and Kurotsuchi are not related. The only relation they have is that Kurotsuchi’s grandfather, Onoki, trained Deidara with special interest and made him part of the explosion corps.
A. It is assumed that the Forbidden Technique that Deidara stole from the Hidden Rock gave him the extra mouth on his hand. It allows him to knead Chakra into clay, making it explosive.
