Wind Style: Rasengan is high-ranking ninjutsu developed by Naruto Uzumaki, the protagonist of the fan-favorite manga and its anime adaptation, the Naruto series.
This ninjutsu is a derivation of the A-Rank jutsu, Rasengan, developed by Minato Namikaze. The appearance of this jutsu is similar to the standard Rasengan but it has spiraling edges giving it a shuriken-like appearance. There are three known users of this jutsu, Naruto Uzumaki, Konohamaru Sarutobi, and Boruto Uzumaki. Although all three of them use the same technique, their jutsu are different in appearance.

Wind Style: Rasengan was developed by Naruto when he was training under Kakashi Hatake’s supervision. Kakashi informed Naruto that Rasengan is an incomplete jutsu. Minato Namikaze, Kakashi’s sensei, invented Rasengan in the hopes of adding chakranature and chakraform but was unable to do so before his unfortunate demise.
After Minato’s death, Kakashi himself tried to add his chakra nature to the Rasengan but was unsuccessful in his attempts. As a replacement, Kakashi invented Chidori. Kakashi started training Naruto in the use of chakra nature and chakra form in hopes that he will be able to do what the Fourth Hokage and himself were unable to achieve.
Naruto described the task of adding chakra flow and chakra nature to the Rasengan as looking left and right at the same time. With Kakashi’s insight, Naruto came up with the idea to use Shadow Clones to divide his work between them. Naruto used one shadow clone to focus on adding the chakra nature in the Rasengan and the other shadow clone to add chakra form while he focused his chakra at a single point to form the Rasengan.
Naruto’s idea worked and he was now able to add chakra form and chakra nature to his Rasengan, he just needed some practice for perfection. Before Naruto perfected the technique and came up with Rasenshuriken, Kakashi instructed Naruto to use his incomplete jutsu against Kakashi’s Rasengan to assess its potency. To Kakashi’s surprise, his Rasengan was obliterated and he received some damage to his hand. This incomplete form of Rasenshuriken became known as Wind Style: Rasengan.
In the series, there are a total of 3 known users of this jutsu. Konohamaru Sarutobi and Boruto Uzumaki are the other two users of this technique. Although they both use Wind Style: Rasengan, they differ in appearance compared to Naruto’s version.
In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Konohamaru’s version of this jutsu appears as a chakra sphere in the center of an imperfect ring, and wind chakra streams all around it. Konohamaru’s technique obliterated boulders and trees and devastated the forest on a large scale.
Unlike Naruto or Konohamaru, Boruto’s technique appears to be green in color. It has a perfect and sharp ring around the chakra sphere at the center resembling a planet with an asteroid belt.
A. Naruto created many jutsus based on his original techniques. Naruto invented Sexy Jutsu, Wind Style: Rasengan, and Wind Release: Rasenshuriken. In the series, he uses multiple jutsus based on these 3 original techniques, such as Harem Jutsu and Mini Rasenshuriken.
A. Up to this point, Naruto Uzumaki, Konohamaru Sarutobi, and Boruto Uzumaki are the three known users of Wind Style: Rasengan.
