History of Cacao Island

Less that 62 years ago, Cacao Island became a part of the Big Mom Pirates, commonly known as “Totto Land,” and was given its current appearance by Charlotte Linlin and Streusen’s Devil Fruit powers (the Soru Soru no Mi and Kuku Kuku no Mi respectively).

Later, Charlotte Lola was chosen to serve as the island’s miniter. Five years ago, she made the decision to leave and start her own marriage quest after being set up to marry Prince Loki of Elbaf.

The job was subsequently offered to her younger sister Charlotte Pudding, but she turned it down because she thought Lola was the right person for the job and that one day she would come back.

While traveling to Whole Cake Island, the Sanji Retrieval Team halted for resupply at Cacao Island, where Luffy and Chopper consumed Pudding’s café and the group soon came across Pudding herself.

After the wedding turned into a mess and Big Mom rampaged around with hunger pangs, the mystical ingredients for the wedding cake were brought to Chocolat Town. Pudding suggested using them to make another cake with Charlotte Chiffon’s assistance in order to cure her mother’s food-crazed illness. Later, Pudding and Chiffon revealed their plan to the Sanji Retrieval Team and recruited Sanji to assist in baking the cake.

The three planned for the two groups to meet in the middle as the cooks made their way back with the cake while the rest of the crew lured Big Mom. Sanji hid in Rabiyan’s fold when they arrived and Chiffon claimed to be Pudding’s prisoner. The WCI 31 or Whole Cake Island, chief chefs, had convened at the “Sweets Factory” to support Pudding there. Pudding changed their memory of the Tea Party within the plant and the cooks got to work on creating the stand-in wedding cake, with Sanji taking the lead.

At the same time, The Sanji Retrieval Team was preparing to meet Luffy at Cacao Island after the latter beat Katakuri. Brûlée, on the other hand, overheard them and informed Perospero about their plan, directing the Big Mom Pirates to ambush the Straw Hats there.

Later, Pound followed his daughter to Cacao Island and in the meantime, Brûlée had told Pudding about the Straw Hats’ plans. Oven and his warriors appeared outside the Sweets Factory and attacked Pound, causing him to flee.

The cooks had intended to finish the cake while traveling to Big Mom after baking the dessert’s base. After leaving the facility, though, Oven intercepted them and attempted to avenge Chiffon for her betrayal before deciding to use her as bait against Bege. Bege fought Oven and forced him to release her when the Fire Tank Pirates arrived. Bege and his crew then launched an attack on the Big Mom Pirates on land, and Sanji took advantage of the occasion to hoist the cart containing the cake and the chefs aboard Bege’s ship before it made a U-turn to depart the island.

Oven used his Devil Fruit ability to heat up the sea and harm the ship in a desperate attempt to kill Bege but Pound stopped him. Pound was then killed by Oven as his daughter and her friends escaped. The remaining of the Big Mom Pirates were then informed of it.

Following the creation of a barricade surrounding Cacao Island, Oven instructed the island’s residents to destroy or damage all of their mirrors, leaving Luffy with no other route out of the Mirro-World but through the big mirror he had installed at the center of Chocolat Town.

Later, more of his siblings came to Oven’s aid, and the Big Mom Pirates who had gathered on the island were getting ready to ambush Luffy in case he managed to leave the Mirro-World as the Straw Hats’ scheduled rendezvous time came near, with Sanji standing by near to save him.

To everyone’s surprise, Pekoms, who had Brûlée at gunpoint and had betrayed his crew to grant Pedro’s last request for the Straw Hats’ safety, came out of the mirror, carrying Luffy under his folds. He intended to transform into his Sulong form and release it to create a distraction for Luffy to flee but Oven stopped him.

When Luffy attempted to escape, Charlotte Raisin confronted him before Sanji intervened to save him. The Big Mom Pirates restrained Pekons and Charlotte Yuen blocked Sanji’s path with Geppo himself and sent the two tumbling down as he dragged Luffy away using Sky Walk.

The Tartes surrounding the island were caught in an explosion and the Vinsmoke Family arrived to defend their brother and his captain as the Charlotte Family approached them. The Charlotte Family attempted to shoot at the crowd but their shots were deflected by the Vinsmokes, giving Sanji a chance to escape with Luffy.

The Vinsmokes resisted the Big Mom Pirates’ attempts to stop Luffy and Sanji as they continued on their mission. After returning aboard the Thousand Sunny, Sanji and Luffy quickly left Cacao Island.

The Germa 66 retreated and left the island once it was that Big Mom’s rampage had finished and that the Straw Hats had evacuated Totto Land. The armies of the Germa Kingdom were then attacked by Big Mom when she eventually arrived on the island, where Vinsmoke Niji and Yonji were taken prisoner by Big Mom during the battle.

After being put in a Prisoner Book and displayed in Chocolat Town, Niji and Yonji were later taken to Whole Cake Island. Brûlée suspected Vinsmoke Reiju and Ichiji when two strangers showed up in Chocolat Town but they were actually on Whole Cake Island rescuing their kidnapped brothers. Then, the town and its people were covered in ice.

Locations at Cacao Island

There are various locations in Cacao Island. The ones that have been revealed are:

Chocolat Town

Chocolat Town is the capital of Cacao Island. The buildings, fountains, hot springs and even the clothing are all made up of chocolate. The Minister of Candy is in charge of windows and the Minister of Biscuit is in charge of pillars.

All of the chocolate buildings, with the exception of the roofs, can be consumed. Another instance of this is when “dismantlers” are hired to consume the structure before it degrades. To inform the public that a building is being demolished, a notice must be put up.

Anything else is either personal property or consumables for public use. Also, it appears that they offer chocolate versions of common non-chocolate fare like burgers, pasta and fried chicken.

Caramel

The Caramel Café is owned by Charlotte Pudding, and it is located close to her residence. It is mostly made of chocolate, marshmallows, jelly beans and almonds, much like all the other buildings. Luffy and Chopper devoured the majority of the buildings, which would have been illegal if Pudding hadn’t stood up for them.

Sweets Factory

Sanji, Pudding, Chiffon, Buche and 30 other cooks from Whole Cake Island gathered in the gigantic factory called the Sweets Factory to make a wedding cake to satisfy one of Big Mom’s cravings.

Trivia

  • Theobroma cacao, the tree’s Binomial name and the source of cocoa bean, the primary component of chocolate, is referenced in the name of this island.

  • The name of Chocolat Town is also the source of that connection.

  • Being a major portion of the Big Mom Pirates’ New World domain, the island also shares the crew’s love of fairy tales and science fiction.

  • Buildings on Cacao Island are built of edible materials and resemble the house from the Brothers Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel.

  • This island, more than any other, is edible, much like Willy Wonka’s “Chocolate Room” in the Roald Dahl book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

  • With only half of the crew, the Straw Hat Pirates have only been to two other islands: Water 7 and the Sabaody Archipelago. Cacao Island is the third.
