Neko Neko ni Mi, Model: Leopard in One Piece

The Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard is a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that transforms its user into a Leopard Human, allowing them to transform into a full leopard or a hybrid leopard at will. It was consumed by Rob Lucci. The fruit’s abilities were demonstrated during the Enies Lobby Arc.

There are a few demonstration differences between the Manga and Anime about this Devil Fruit’s transformation appearance. The half-leopard shape Lucci transforms into when using the fruit’s ability was initially all yellow. Later on, during the Enies Lobby Arc, it was shown as being white. On the volume 44 cover, it was shown that the shape actually has some white fur underneath, with some protruding pieces of his original human flesh. In order to match the volume cover, Lucci’s half-leopard form’s colors were included in a later anime episode.

History and Appearance of the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard

At some point in the past, Rob Lucci consumed the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard (Cat-Cat Fruit). The fruit’s fierce abilities were first shown during the Enies Lobby Arc, however, he awakened the fruit’s power at some point before the Egghead Saga.

The fruit’s appearance is unknown.

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard

The fruit’s major strength as demonstrated by Lucci, is that it gives its user drastically increased physical strength in both their hybrid and full leopard forms, which is equal to and even exceeds the strength of a real leopard. Due to a significant rise in the user’s original height and weight, their half-leopard form is enormous.

The strength of this fruit considerably improves fighting techniques and skills, including Rokushiki. The fruit bestows the user with the traits of a leopard, including increased climbing and jumping prowess as well as increased strength, durability, speed, and agility. It also gives the user retractable claws, formidable fangs and strong jaws.

The Zoan users that evolve into carnivorous creatures are inherently more ferocious than others. Users that transform into these animals are by nature more powerful and deadly in physical combat, and they could have beneficial characteristics like claws to help in a fight. Rob Lucci is one of the most extreme examples of a Zoan user, going so far as to maul his opponent while in full-leopard form. Lucci states that those who have consumed fruits similar to this are very skilled at close combat and physical power.

The fruit doesn’t have any weaknesses. The user simply is vulnerable to the standard Devil Fruit flaws.

Awakening of the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard

Upon awakening, the user’s Human-Beast form changes physically, growing bigger and slimmer, developing a “mane” of dark flame down the back and arms, and developing a stream of floating fire around the shoulders.

It was stated that this “awakening” was different from other Zoan Fruits, particularly the prominent animal-based ones, and that it was supposed to change the user’s personality, but Rob Lucci kept his.

Usage and Techniques of the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard

Rob Lucci has mainly used the fruit’s abilities in battle and to fuel his passion for battle. Lucci takes advantage of the fruit’s abilities to enhance the potency of his Rokushiki moves like Shigan and Rankyaku by adding claws to his fingers and strengthening his legs, respectively. In contrast to all Zoan users so far, Lucci has used the fruit’s power in a more ferocious manner, taking on the appearance of a full-grown leopard during battle and attacking his opponent using claws and teeth.

While the majority of Zoan Devil Fruits typically only allow three types of transformations, Lucci can access a fourth form by using Seimei Kikan. Lucci’s muscles contract through Seimei Kikan: Kami-e Bushin, giving him a smaller and slightly more humanoid half-leopard form. In comparison to his usual half-leopard form, Lucci appears to be faster and able to land more blows in this shape. Compared to his regular hybrid form, he becomes a smaller target. Nevertheless in return for this increased speed, his raw strength apparently shrinks.

Lucci has awakened his fruit’s power without having his mind consumed by it, and he is able to access a fifth form that increases his speed and power even more than his aforementioned fourth form.

Rob Lucci has demonstrated the following techniques using his fruit’s abilities:

Kamisori (Razor)

This is a combined technique of Geppo and Soru, where Lucci uses Soru in a zigzag motion in midair, allowing him incredibly fast movements in three dimensions.

This technique has also been demonstrated in the One Piece Video Games. In the Pirate Warriors series, Lucci can use Kamisori to slice through enemies with its swift motions, and in the third Pirate Warriors game, he can use the attack while in human form (without ending it with a smashing dice).

Rankyaku “Hyobi” (Storm Leg: Leopard Tail)

In this technique, Rob Lucci summons a massive, potent Rankyaku in the form of a swirl, which is hurled like a razor at the opponent. The opponent gets hurt and stunned when it strikes them, and it has the power to knock them out of the air if it catches them in midair.

This technique has also been demonstrated in the One Piece Video Game: Pirate Warrior series, in which the attack also has the ability to pull in enemies, much like a small, fast-moving spiral wind.

Takkai “Utsugi” (Iron Mass: Deutzia)

In this technique, instead of absorbing damage from an attack, this form of Tekkai is used only as a counter, returning the strike’s shock to the attacker, which can cause fractured bones in a normal human body.

Tobu Shigan “Bachi” (Flying Finger Gun: ‘Plectrum’)

This technique is similar to “Rankyaku”. Although Lucci displayed a variation that involves jabbing, this sort of Shigan is launched by flicking instead of jabbing.

Rankyaku “Gaicho” (Storm Leg: Victorious Bird)

In this technique, Lucci uses his claws in his half-leopard form instead of his legs and transforms into a giant Rankyaku in the form of a bird. This Rankyaku can cleave steel, something not seen in other variants, and it has a considerably larger range and stronger blow. Additionally, the cut appears sharper and less jerky than a typical Rankyaku. Gaichou can also mean “injurious bird”, but in kanji that can mean “winning song”.

This technique has also been demonstrated in the One Piece Video Game: Pirate Warriors 3, in which Lucci can perform this technique in his human form.

Seimei Kikan: Kami-e Bushin (Life/Existence Return: Paper Drawing Martial Body)

In this technique, Lucci shrinks, lightens, and perhaps speeds up his half-leopard form with Seimei Kikan. In any case, compared to his massive usual half-leopard shape, he is far more agile and difficult to hit in this form.

Seimei Kikan: Kaijo (Life/Existence Return: Cancellation)

Lucci uses this technique when he transforms into a smaller half-leopard. His Seimei Kikan: Kami-e Bushin technique is canceled, and he reverts to his bigger, more powerful half-leopard form.

Shigan “Madara” (Finger Gun: Speckles)

In this technique, the ultimate Shigan barrage is executed like Oren, except with both hands instead of just one and in half-leopard form (which means his fingers are clawed).

Rokushiki Ogi: Rokuougan (Six Styles Secret Skill: Six King Gun)

This is the ultimate Rokushiki move that can cause internal harm to an opponent, comparable to the Impact Dial or of equal or more strength to the Reject Dial, but it is thought to be considerably more effective and can be executed without causing the user great agony. It appears to be two close-range fists that can harm the enemy with a devastating assault. Although he only used his “Shaved” half-leopard form, it may be assumed that he could use it in other proportions because the dimensions are about the same.

This technique has also been demonstrated in the One Piece Video Game: Pirate Warriors 3, in which Lucci can perform this technique in his human form.

Sai Dai Rin: Rokuogan (Maximum Ring: Six Ring Gun)

Lucci uses this in his leopard-human hybrid form. In order to prevent the target from escaping, he wraps his tail around them before performing Rokuogan, though now with a larger attack radius and more power than usual due to the hybrid form’s huge fists.

Shugan (Hand Gun)

This is an awakened technique in which Lucci uses his entire hand to stab the enemy while still in his woken form, keeping all five fingers extended.

Tobu Shigan “Mitsubachi” (Flying Finger Gun: Three Plectrums)

This is an Anime-only technique in which Lucci discharges the Tobu Shigan: Bachi three times straight.

Tobu Shigan “Hibachi” (Flying Finger Gun: Fire Plectrum)

This is an Anime-only technique which is the same as Tobu Shigan: Bachi, with the exception that the projectile is a fireball that, upon impact, burns the victim. This fireball may have been caused by friction. The word “Hibachi” (which is written in kanji) refers to a particular kind of grill or barsier from Japan.
