Aphelandra, along with her friend Marguerite, found the mushroom-covered Monkey D. Luffy. They transported him back to the village before realizing he was a man. Aphelandra stood with the other Kujas as they witnessed Luffy waking up.
When Luffy tried to escape, Aphelandra physically blocked his path. She followed him into the forest after he grabbed Marguerite. Once they found Marguerite, Aphelandra and the others headed back to the village.
As Boa Hancock prepared to execute Luffy, Marguerite confessed to saving him, and Aphelandra claimed responsibility. In response, Hancock petrified the three women. To protect them, Luffy moved the petrified trio out of harm's way.
After Luffy defeated the Boa sisters and reached an agreement with Hancock, the women were returned to normal. They joined the festivities that night. Aphelandra bid farewell to Luffy when he set out on a quest to save his brother.
In the Post-War Arc, Aphelandra and the other Kujas were overjoyed to see Luffy return.
In Return to Sabaody Arc, during the timeskip, Aphelandra joined the Kuja Pirates. She later bid farewell to Luffy after picking him up from Rusukaina and bringing him near the Sabaody Archipelago.
Aphelandra, despite her size, is timid and tends to repeat commands from others. She is kind and innocent, apologizing to Luffy before fighting him because he's a man. She responds to orders with a militaristic stance, using a right-handed salute.
Aphelandra is an extremely tall and slender woman with childlike facial features, including wide dark brown eyes and long orange-brown hair. She wears scanty attire typical of the Kuja, including a blue corset with yellow borders, a matching bikini bottom, a white cape, and a plumed morion-type helmet with the Kuja emblem.
She completes her look with dark brown outdoor boots and carries her sword horizontally over her lower back.
Aphelandra is likely a melee-type fighter, utilizing her prodigious size to her advantage. Luffy experienced a setback when he landed on and bounced off her chest during an escape.
After the timeskip, she accompanied Boa Hancock on the Kuja pirate ship, indicating her strength and crew status. Unlike others, she doesn't use a snake bow but wields a large jian sword. Although she struggled against Luffy's elasticity, her time with the Kuja suggests potential improvement in her Haki.
In addition to the One Piece manga and its anime adaptation, Aphelandra is a playable character in One Piece Treasure Cruise, and also appears in the following games as a supporting character:
One Piece: Gigant Battle
One Piece: Gigant Battle! 2 New World
Aphelandra is named after the flower aphelandra, known for being one of the tallest flowers globally.
