Black Island is one of the 34 islands surrounding Totto Land, the main territory of Big Mom, an Emperor of the Sea. Not a lot is known about its history. Green Town is the only known city located on Black Island. It is believed that the name of the town is most likely a reference to green tea.

According to records, Black Island joined Big Mom's territory less than 62 years ago. With the help of Streusen's Kuku Kuku no Mi (Cook-Cook Fruit) devil fruit abilities and the abilities of her Soru Soru no Mi (Soul-Soul Fruit), Big Mom is believed to have changed the island's appearance.
