Clover’s History

In his youth, Clover was a passionate explorer, and researcher fixated on uncovering the mysteries of the Void Century. Driven by this obsession, he embarked on numerous expeditions worldwide, scouring for rare texts that held clues about this enigmatic era. Despite the World Government deeming such research forbidden, Clover's relentless pursuit led to his arrest by the Marines on ten separate occasions. Surprisingly, he managed to escape each time, earning him widespread acclaim.

Clover's daring escapes from Marine custody contributed significantly to his global renown. Admirers of his work, including fellow archaeologists, began to follow him to his homeland, Ohara.

Years later, after Olvia, one of Clover's students, left Ohara, a young girl named Robin entered the scene. She was discovered by Clover attempting to steal a book in the Tree of Knowledge. Despite the initial act, Clover, intrigued by her curiosity, permitted her access to the books, marking a pivotal moment in their interaction.

Guiding Robin's Path:

Clover played a crucial role in helping Robin officially become an archaeologist. Despite this support, he decided to shield her from danger by prohibiting her from delving into the poneglyph on Ohara. This precaution was rooted in his concern for her safety, especially considering the fate of her mother, Nico Olvia, who had faced trouble with the World Government.

Unfortunately, the World Government discovered Ohara's research, prompting them to send the CP9 to deal with the situation. As the CP9 rounded up the archaeologists, including Robin, Clover urged her to escape. The reason behind this urgency was Clover's previous communication with the World Government about the findings in the poneglyphs. He kept this information from Robin, fearing it would also make her a target.

Clover, facing the Five Elders, encountered resistance. Despite being recognized for his significant contributions to universal culture, he was criticized for straying from the "good path." Clover passionately argued for humanity's right to know the untold story, emphasizing that denying them this knowledge was unjust. However, a counter-argument emerged, warning of the potential resurrection of Ancient Weapons and the catastrophic consequences it could bring to the world.

Revelation of Ancient History:

Clover disclosed a startling revelation that, before the World Government, a powerful Great Kingdom ruled the world. This kingdom was annihilated by a group that eventually formed the World Government. Unfortunately, before Clover could unveil the group's name, he was shot and severely wounded.

Tragic Turn of Events:

As a shocked Robin approached, the devastating Buster Call was initiated, unleashing Marine ships on Ohara. In his final moments, Clover regretted not keeping a watchful eye on Robin. Despite his mortal wounds, he directed Jaguar D. Saul to ensure Robin's safety by taking her to a refugee ship.

Selfless Sacrifice for Knowledge:

Clover, along with Olvia and other scholars, stayed behind and salvaged as many books as possible from the Tree of Knowledge, preserving them for future generations. As the tree burned around them and Ohara faced destruction, they met a tragic end when the falling tree crushed and burned them while attempting to safeguard the precious books by throwing them into the lake.

Unrecognized Sacrifice:

The Marines, discovering the books in the lake while searching for survivors (finding none), dismissed it as a mere coincidence, unaware of the sacrifice made by Clover and the scholars.

Inspiring a Revolution:

Clover's death and unwavering dedication to research became a source of inspiration. His legacy motivated Dragon to establish the Revolutionary Army, significantly impacting history.

Clover’s Relationships

Allies:

Nico Robin

Professor Clover played a crucial role in Nico Robin's journey to becoming an archaeologist. He granted her this opportunity after she passed a test, and his research on Poneglyphs sparked her interest in True History. Clover's support extended to allowing Robin access to his library, where her passion for knowledge blossomed. The other archaeologists at the Tree of Knowledge became Robin's cherished friends, caring deeply for her. Even when a threat to ban her emerged, it was a protective measure to prevent her from being labeled a criminal.

Nico Olvia:

Professor Clover and Nico Olvia shared a close professional relationship driven by their mutual interest in the True History inscribed on the Poneglyphs. Clover admired Olvia's dedication to archaeology and provided support and guidance during her studies. Their bond grew strong as they delved into the mysteries of the True History. Despite primarily being professional, their relationship was marked by mutual respect and commitment to research. Even when faced with the consequences of their pursuit of knowledge, Clover supported Olvia's decision to leave Ohara in search of the Real Poneglyph. During Olvia's absence, he cared for Olvia's daughter, Nico Robin, passing on their shared love for knowledge.

Scholars of Ohara:

Professor Clover maintained a deep and respectful relationship with the Scholars of Ohara. As a leading figure, he fostered a collaborative environment focused on uncovering the True History through Poneglyphs. Highly respected for his knowledge and leadership, Clover influenced younger scholars, including Nico Robin, through mentorship and guidance. His commitment to truth and resilience inspired the scholars, even when branded as criminals by the World Government. Clover's leadership and wisdom left a lasting impact on the collaborative research and shared passion of the Scholars of Ohara.

Monkey D. Dragon:

Clover had a connection with Monkey D. Dragon, though the nature of their relationship is not specified.

Vegapunk:

Clover and Vegapunk were friends who had adventured together in their younger years.

Enemies:

World Government:

Clover became an enemy of the World Government due to his study of Poneglyphs, which led to his pursuit of True History. This choice aligned him against the government's interests, marking him as a target.

Clover’s Personality

Professor Clover was kind and caring as he helped and encouraged Robin to finish her studies in archaeology. He showed respect to everyone in the library and made sure the forbidden poneglyphs were kept safe from the World Government. He knew the government might use the information for the wrong reasons.

Even when things got tough, he didn't give up and stood up to the World Government, even if it meant risking his own life. Clover was strong-willed and didn't bow down to the government's pressure.

Clover’s Appearance

He had hair that looked like four green clovers. He usually wore a green tracksuit with a "C" embroidered on both sides. Underneath, he had a brown striped t-shirt.

Clover’s Abilities

Professor Clover, a scholar from Ohara, had a special skill—he could read Poneglyphs. This made him one of the few who could uncover the truth about the Void Century and find the locations of the ancient weapons. As a top archaeology professor, he had extensive knowledge of history, especially the hidden events of the Void Century.

Clover's expertise was so impressive that even Silvers Rayleigh, a highly skilled individual, complimented him. In his younger days as an explorer, Clover was seen carrying a saber, though it's unclear how skilled he was with the weapon.
