Dorry’s history

Past

Dorry and Broggy in the anime.

Along with Brogy, Dorry was one of the two leaders of the Giant Warrior Pirates. Because their crew was made up of giants, they had some of the most ruthless crews in the world. He and his fellow captain Brogy engaged in a contest of honor over the size of the fish they caught, which led to the end of his pirate career. It was revealed in a flashback that a young girl had inquired about the size of one of them. For the past century, Brogy and Dorry have engaged in a duel to resolve their grudge on the remote island of Little Garden.

Arabasta Saga

Dorry spent time with Karoo, Vivi, and Luffy while the Straw Hat Pirates visited the island. He was given rum to drink, and while he was drinking, something exploded in his gut. He started attacking Luffy because he thought the Straw Hats had planted the explosives there. But after defeating the giant, Luffy acknowledged that the Straw Hats were not to blame for the sabotage.

Brogy and Dorry.

He was hardly able to stand as the volcano erupted, but he walked on to fight Brogy despite his fresh wounds from the bomb. He trapped Luffy beneath the enormous Sea King's skeleton to keep him from interfering. Dorry lost the duel after Mr. 3 was sabotaged a bit more.

Dorry was initially thought to be dead, but he emerged conscious after the fight with Mr. 3, and he and Brogy embraced, both relieved to be alive. Dorry thought he survived the blow as their weapons had grown old and too weak to cause serious harm. The Straw Hats were then given a unique send-off by Dorry and Brogy, who blasted them through a legendary gigantic fish that stood in their way.

After timeskip

Upon witnessing Miss Goldenweek and her supporters leave Little Garden, Dorry resumed his fight with Brogy. Two years later, Dorry and Brogy were still engaged in duelling on Little Garden, with no end in sight. In the background, newspapers are seen flying, indicating that they have read of the reappearance of the Straw Hats.

Final Saga

Brogy and Dorry's powers.

After putting their rivalry on hold, Dorry and Brogy were seen on Elbaph together after Shanks wanted their help in battling Eustass Kid. Later, under Shanks's orders, he and Brogy sank all of the Kid Pirates along with their ship with Hakoku and warned them that they would face the same consequences if they came and voluntarily pointed a pistol at someone else's property.

Both Dorry and Brogy went to Egghead at some point during the Egghead Incident. The sight of their enormous ship left many Marines on the island completely puzzled. Both Dorry and Brogy attacked several Marines while explaining that they had come to save Luffy after learning of their confusion over the reason for their arrival.

The Giant Pirates crew

When Brogy struck Vice Admiral Tosa with his axe, they subsequently found Franky, Atlas, Bonney, and Kuma. Unaware that Franky was a member of the Straw Hat crew, they informed him that they were searching for them, but they disregarded Franky's concerns that they were hostile. Bonney informed them that they would find Luffy, Sanji, and Vegapunk in the main part of the island, so they ordered their crew members to take Franky's group to their ship before moving into the main area. When the Five Elders appeared and faced Luffy, Dorry and Brogy kept moving across Egghead. Shepherd Ju Peter consumed Luffy whole as he faced them. The moment Dorry and Brogy saw this, they rushed over. At the same time, they freed Luffy, greeted him for the first time in two years, and beheaded Ju Peter.

Dorry and Brogy save Luffy from Ju Peter.

Luffy was welcomed by Dorry and Brogy, who were both happy to see him after a gap of two years. Both were taken aback by his Gear 5 appearance as well, saying it was exactly like a God in Elbaph. When Dorry realized they needed to get away from Egghead, he signalled to his men by blowing his Viking horn. Topman Warcury confronted them before they could flee, telling them that there was no way out.

Dorry and Brogy blocked with their shields as Warcury tried to cut them with his sharpened tusks after confusing them with a burst of haki. When Warcury asked them why they were making the effort to help Luffy, they both replied that he was a friend before slamming Warcury with their shields. Saturn continued to launch poisonous orbs at them. A huge explosion resulted from Luffy's use of his powers to redirect the orbs back at the Elders. Dorry and Brogy were shocked to learn that the Elders merely recovered from the damage, and they concluded that it would be useless to battle them.

Ju Peter tried to suck them in as they backed away to keep the three from getting away. By kicking a structure into the Elder's mouth, Luffy was able to stop this, although he eventually ran out of energy and changed out of his Gear 5 form. Dorry was taken aback by Luffy's abrupt aging, but Brogy helped him regain his natural body by offering to give him some emergency Hakarl food from Elbaph.

When Dorry told them that Warcury was charging at them, Luffy tried to stop him by hitting him with Red Roc, but because of Warcury's thick shell, Luffy only injured himself. Warcury's flames started to catch up to Dorry and Brogy as they were running, and Luffy, in his Gear 5th form, attempted to attack him once more, injuring his hand in the process. They ultimately concluded that it was not worth launching any more attacks and instead just ran. Fortunately, the three managed to get away freely when Warcury and Ju Peter finally gave up on their pursuit and went off to handle more pressing issues.

The three of them finally made it to the Giant's ship after running for a long time, jumping on it as it was about to leave Egghead. Their triumph did not last long, though, as Marcus Mars pursued them out to sea using his flying ability. The ship was hit by an energy beam from Mars, and to make matters worse, the water had suddenly become rubbery, rocking the boat violently.

Luckily, after eating, Luffy regains his energy and changes into his Gear 5 form. When the Drums of Liberation started playing, Dorry and Brogy both started dancing. When the two realized how serious the situation was, they stopped dancing and instead gave commands and moved to extinguish the fire that Mars had started on the ship. Both giants got shaken when the Iron Giant suddenly reappeared from the sea, hitting Warcury, after Brogy had ordered them to retreat quickly from the shore. Their joy at the machine's assistance was short-lived, though, as Saturn sprang on board their ship and grabbed hold of the front.

The giants were all rapidly armed and used their shields as Dorry and Brogy led their troops in the defense against Saturn. As Luffy and Bonney launched Saturn back off the ship with a mighty blow, they all stood back and cheered. Unfortunately, the attacks persisted, and Peter abruptly came from the island to destroy the Giant's ship with his massive body.

Luffy, Dorry, and Brogy make it back to their ship.

Unexpectedly, the Iron Giant untied a knot in its body, causing Joy Boy's Haki to suddenly explode on the island as a whole. Both Dorry and Brogy were left in complete astonishment and confusion when the Haki wiped out the majority of the Marines, forced the majority of the Five Elders back to Mary Geoise, and made their escape much simpler.

Dorry commented that the Haki might be more powerful than Shanks'. Now that they had the opportunity to escape with all of their enemies defeated, the two decided to push off of Egghead. Later, the two invite Luffy, Usopp, and their crew to a party, holding up the former while he pleaded desperately for them to save it until he recovered.

When Dorry and the others awoke two days after they had passed out during the celebration due to intoxication, they found that Sunny, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper were gone. Later, a newspaper article said that Dorry and Brogy had attacked Egghead alongside Luffy, raising their bounty to 1,800,000,000 Belly.

The two were concerned because they had not planned to return, but they accepted it nevertheless. Shortly afterwards, the crew returned to Elbpah, where they saw and welcomed Colon before riding a Painter up a rainbow. The group encountered and greeted Hajrudin and Stansen as they floated on the rainbow up to Elbaph's sun world. They also welcomed the lost Straw Hats, who had arrived in the village by other means just before, after they had sailed into the village.

When the Straw Hats landed on the village coast, Dorry and Brogy worked with Hajrudin to plan a big party for them while they went to see Jaguar D. Saul at the Walrus School. The party started once they got back.

Dorry and Brogy use Hakoku to defeat several MMA.

While other things happened around Elbaph, such as Loki being freed and the God's Knights trying to organize a kidnapping of the children, the crew grew increasingly drunk as the celebration continued. They were all shocked to see a huge Draugr emerge from the forest and destroy the firefighting Svarr dispatched to put out the fire after a branch of the Adam Tree they were on caught fire (due to Loki being freed by Zoro and Luffy).

Dorry’s personality

Dorry is a kind giant, but occasionally, his pride prevents him from acting with the best judgment. Despite being gravely injured, he has a strong belief in and honors the traditions of his native country. Because of his pride, he assumed that Luffy was the one who put the bomb in his drink, even though he and Vivi were the only people present (as far as he knew). As with many One Piece characters, Dorry's laugh is distinct and begins with "Gegya" (i.e., Gegyagyagyagya!).

Dorry’s appearance

Dorry has a long beard and is a well-built giant. He usually wears a helmet that covers his eyes and is dressed in Viking attire. Luffy could fit in the palm of his hand due to his large stature. Considering that he is 160 years old, he is a giant in his prime.

Dorry’s abilities

As a sign of his threat, Dorry initially had a 100,000,000 reward on his head. He also has superhuman strength and resistance, just like other giants. Nevertheless, as one of the two leaders of the Giant Warrior Pirates, he commanded one of the world's most formidable crews and was incredibly strong even in comparison to the rest of his race. When the Egghead Incident occurred, Dorry's bounty increased to 1,800,000,000.

As proof of his might, he battled with Brogy for a hundred years, defeating enormous creatures that even the other giants in their crew couldn't have taken down. The two giants are so strong that even with the help of Miss Golden Week, Mr. 5, and Miss Valentine, Galdino, a member of Baroque Works who can fight a pirate with a 42,000,000 reward, claimed he could not destroy them without using trickery. Due to his strong will, Dorry was able to withstand Topman Warcury's Supreme King Haki's devastating blast.

Physical abilities

Dorry in a hand-to-hand combat with Brogy.

Dorry is incredibly strong for a Giant. Dorry and Brogy successfully wounded and repelled two of the Five Elders. Dorry can also easily kill Little Garden's dinosaurs, which he hunts every day. Despite their considerable distance from one another, he and Brogy were able to puncture the Island Eater. Even Luffy said the two were monstrously powerful after witnessing them accomplish this feat.

A barrel of liquor exploded inside Dorry's stomach, but he survived and continued to fight Luffy. In addition, the latter claimed that it would have been absurd for Vivi to flee in front of a strong opponent like him when Dorry planned to confront him. It is partially due to the dire circumstances in which the giant was living and the fact that Luffy had misjudged the pirate and that Dorry was defeated by his hand. Later, in spite of all the wounds he sustains, he is also able to render Luffy immovable and engage in combat with Brogy, who ultimately prevailed only because Galdino had used his abilities to help his opponent.

Swordsmanship

Dorry is a strong swordsman with the strength and ability to compete on an equal footing with Broggy. Alongside Brogy, he can use a sword to launch a soaring slash strike that is strong enough to sink the Victoria Punk and kill the Island Eater.

Weapons

Dorry uses a long sword and a shield during combat. His former sword, known as the Terry Sword, eventually shattered after losing its edge from a century of battle. Later, Dorry got a new sword in its place.

Given below is a list of techniques that Dorry has used so far:

  • Hakoku (Warrior Nation): Dorry and Brogy use their full might to summon Elbaph's "warrior code" and slash their swords at the ocean, producing two compressed air beams (Brogy's is red, while Dorry's is blue) that will cut through anything in their path, including the water. This technique is known as Hakoku Sovereignty in the VIZ manga and Funimation subs.

  • Taiyo Noko (Sun Saw): Dorry and Brogy attack at the same time while standing on opposing sides of their opponent. Brogy cuts their victim in three by slashing their body with his axe, and Dorry slashes through their neck with his sword.

  • Svalinn (Sun-Sheild): Together, Dorry and Brogy use their shields to parry an assault while standing next to one other.

  • Skilja (Separate): Dorry and Brogy strike back with their shields as they block an attack.
