Four years ago, after the Punk Hazard incident, Vegapunk was relocated to a new laboratory on Egghead called Lab 08. At Dragon's referral, Bartholomew Kuma and his daughter Jewelry Bonney sought Vegapunk's help to cure her Sapphire Scales. Vegapunk agreed, offering to waive fees if Kuma allowed himself to be cloned, resulting in the creation of the Pacifista.
In the Egghead Arc, a Marine ship sailed to Egghead after Koby was abducted by the Blackbeard Pirates. Later, the Straw Hat Pirates arrived near the island, finding Jewelry Bonney drowning while fleeing from the Mecha-Shark. Jinbe saved her, but they ended up stranded on the island with Chopper and Luffy.
Lilith, posing as Vegapunk, saved the rest of the crew and introduced herself. Shaka, another Vegapunk, contacted Lilith, instructing her to bring the Straw Hats to him. Lilith complied, transporting them to the top of Egghead, where Vegapunk conducted experiments.
Inside the lab, Lilith explained Egghead's technological advancements, and she, along with Edison and Pythagoras, launched a test run with the S-Shark Seraphim to assess its capabilities. Shaka interrupted the test, explaining Egghead's advancements and comparing them to technology from the Void Century, surprising the Straw Hats.
On Egghead, Luffy, Chopper, Jinbe, and Bonney encountered Atlas. After acquiring food and clothing from automatic dispensers, a Pacifista confronted them for theft. When Luffy resisted, Bonney intervened, revealing Kuma as her father and expressing her intention to confront Vegapunk for Kuma's fate. Following an accidental age alteration by Bonney, the group discovered a giant robot in a scrapyard.
Meanwhile, CP0 agents, including Rob Lucci and Kaku, arrived to return S-Bear but secretly planned Vegapunk's assassination. Upon landing in the Labophase, they encountered Luffy's group and engaged in a fight, with Luffy emerging victorious.
CP0 later gained control of the Seraphim and joined forces with Luffy's group. Spotting the Thousand Sunny, they failed to destroy it. In the upper Labophase, CP0 and the Seraphim aimed to destroy Vegapunk's Lab. Despite their efforts, Edison intervened and halted the Seraphim's attack on the lab.
Admiral Kizaru arrived at Egghead with a Marine armada to prevent the Straw Hat Pirates from escaping and support CP0's mission. Jaygarcia Saturn, one of the Five Elders, joined with World Government ships, surrounding the island. Kizaru engaged Sentomaru and Monkey D. Luffy in duels after receiving orders from Saturn.
The Marine Fleet battled Sea Beast Weapons and the Mark III Pacifista. After the Sea Beast Weapons were destroyed, the Pacifista, following Kizaru's order, invaded the island.
Egghead's name is derived from the U.S. English derogatory term for intelligent or studious individuals.
The design and layout of Egghead showcase the Raygun Gothic style, a retrofuturistic theme from the late 1940s to early 1970s.
Egghead's features and inhabitants pay homage to the optimistic embrace of retro-futurism in Japan's post-World War II Shōwa Era.
The presence of jetpacks, DOM boots, and Atlas' design draws inspiration from the early manga/anime "Astro Boy," which was published from 1952 to 1968.
Vegapunk and his Satellites, androids with specialized functions working under an aging super-scientist, are reminiscent of the early manga "Cyborg 009," which began publication in 1964.
The holograms of giant alien beasts and giant robots in the Fabiriophase reference the tokusatsu genre of Japanese live-action films and TV programs, known for practical special effects and gaining recognition in 1954.
The tokusatsu subgenres include kaiju (centered around giant monsters) and mecha (centered around giant robots).
