The Gasu Gasu no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that enables its user to freely generate, manipulate and turn into gas. Caesar Clown devoured it.
|Name||Gasu Gasu no Mi|
|English Name and Meaning||Gas Gas|
|Fruit Debut||One Piece Episode 582|
|Usage Debut||One Piece Episode 582|
|Current User||Caesar Clown|
Caesar Clown ate this fruit more than four years ago and was observed using it when he activated the chemical weapon that destroyed Punk Hazard.
The main strength of this Devil Fruit is the ability to shift into a gas-like shape, which allows the user to float, fly, and travel inside places that regular creatures cannot, as Caesar Clown was seen hiding within some flasks when he was notified that the marines were nearby. He may, however, become solid enough to hold objects, such as his martini glass.
According to Brownbeard, he claimed to be the one who cleansed the entire island of poisonous and nerve gasses. This, however, is eventually shown to be a ruse, with the deadly gasses being employed to give birth to Smiley.
The gas Caesar emits is extremely poisonous. When set alight, the gas looks to be explosive, which allows him to make controlled explosions without injuring himself. Furthermore, the user has the ability to alter other pre-existing gasses in any given location, as well as suffocate their opponents by eliminating the oxygen in the region. This gives the user two alternatives for swiftly defeating their opponent, allowing Caesar to knock out Luffy after discovering that Luffy was poison-resistant (however the area effect is infinite, so if someone escapes the oxygen-free zone they will be able to breathe again). They can even merge with such gasses to boost his own power, depending on the gas taken, while remaining immune to the toxic effects himself.
The gas form appears to be vulnerable to fire, however this is offset by the user’s ability to reduce oxygen levels in the immediate area, preventing combustion. On the other hand, manipulating the oxygen is only possible while solid, as Usopp and Nami were able to breathe again after Brownbeard struck Caesar with a metal pipe, and there appears to be a range within which Caesar can control oxygen, making him more vulnerable to long-ranged attacks. Furthermore, several of Caesar’s approaches require external ignition and instruments to function. Aside from that, the user is vulnerable to the normal Devil Fruit flaws.
Caesar Clown has mostly used this fruit for stealth, sliding it into flasks and floating through the air. He has enough control over his fruit to move around freely and grip solid objects like a cocktail glass.
In battle, Caesar emits poisonous gasses that appear to kill an ordinary victim instantly, ignitable gasses with great explosive strength, or hallucinogenic chemicals that compel foes to fight each other inadvertently. He can also absorb and take oxygen from his surroundings, reducing his vulnerability to fire, and force his opponents into unconsciousness or even death through asphyxiation. In desperation, he absorbed Shinokuni’s H2S gas into his own body to expand his own size and strength.
The Straw Hat Pirates compelled Caesar to change his own body into a hot air balloon strong enough to lift a basket packed with five people, against his better judgment and will. Caesar can also emit a gas that causes hallucinations in individuals who inhale it. As a result of the hallucinations they were experiencing, both Katakuri and Oven became victims of this ability and began battling one another.
There are different types of techniques demonstrated by Caesar, such as:
Caesar creates a cloud of toxic gas and directs it as his enemy. He claims to have conducted numerous experiments with the gas, to the point where he is positive that inhaling it will result in death.
Caesar fills two castanets with unstable gas and slams them together, resulting in a tremendous gas explosion. Despite its magnitude, the attack has no effect on Caesar himself.
Caesar depletes all oxygen in the space surrounding him, asphyxiating everyone within range and neutralizing his vulnerability to fire. The technique is one of Caesar’s most dangerous, as it was capable of swiftly defeating multiple powerful fighters, including a fellow Logia user, in a few moments without touching them, and none of them were able to resist in any way.
Caesar concentrates flammable gas in a certain area and then tosses lighted matches at it, igniting the gas and creating a tremendous ball of fire that incinerates anyone inside.
Caesar concentrates oxygen on a particular weapon (the oxygen taken by Karakuni can be used for this). This is a bladeless sword that also functions as a lighter. By lighting the lighter, Caesar generates an oxidizing flame blade that he may use to slice and burn his opponents at the same time. The blue blade is so hot that even a slash sets fire to everything in its path, while not even making contact with the weapon.
Caesar fires a beam of ignited gas from his mouth, which explodes when it hits the ground. The explosion, according to one of his employees, can reach temperatures hot enough to melt steel. It has the same appearance and effects as Kizaru’s and the Pacifista unit’s laser beam, but it is wider and has a distinct type of explosion.
Caesar takes on a new shape after inhaling the petrifying gas of the chemical weapon, Shinokuni. In this form, his size is much increased, he receives a crown, the color of his attire is altered to that of the gas, and the kanji for “Death” and “Land” are written on his chest. The true potency of this technique appears to be the capacity to acquire the properties of the gas.
Caesar makes a neutralizing gas in order to neutralize “Koro”, one of his fatal gas weapons. It is named after the fact that this approach reverses the effects of the gas. It is a literal reverse of the Japanese syllables “Ko” and “Ro”.
