Gatz’s History

Dressrosa Saga

Dressrosa Arc

Gatz appeared in Dressrosa Arc and was introduced as an announcer of the Corrida Colosseum, Before Block A started, he introduced the members of the Donquixote Pirates participating and showed everyone the prize of the tournament, the Mera Mera no Mi. Then, he commented on the Block A battle royale, letting the crowd know that Mr. Store, the winner, was Jesus Burgess from the Blackbeard Pirates.

Before Block B, Gatz introduced the next contestants, including Bartolomeo and Bellamy. As Block B began, he provided commentary on the fights. He stayed impartial until Hack was defeated, at which point he expressed his outrage about how Bartolomeo won. A co-worker reminded him to stay unbiased. After Elizabello II used his King Punch, Gatz was about to declare him the winner until he realized that Bartolomeo was still standing. He shared the crowd's surprise when Bartolomeo unexpectedly knocked out the king.

During the Block C battle royale, Gatz started liking Lucy after he became popular while riding on the Fighting Bull. However, he got disappointed when Lucy and Ucy ran into Hajrudin and got smashed by his shield. To his surprise, Lucy stood back up and defeated Hajrudin with one punch. After that, Gatz had a hard time staying impartial in his commentary, especially when Boo seemingly defeated one of the Funk Brothers with a single punch.

After Luffy and Chinjao released a powerful Haki blast, Gatz was surprised by how many strong fighters were defeated by it and wondered what caused it. He was even more surprised when the famous pirate Chinjao broke down and started crying during the fight.

Gatz later saw Lucy and Chinjao clash in mid-air. After Lucy knocked out Chinjao, the former pirate fell headfirst into the arena, splitting it in half and sinking into the water. Gatz declared Chinjao out of bounds and announced Lucy as the winner of Block C, mentioning that Lucy's victory was unexpected. Because the arena was heavily damaged and needed repairs, Gatz told the spectators that Block D would be delayed.

After fixing the arena, Gatz announced the start of Block D. When Rebecca entered, the crowd booed and jeered at her. During the Block D battle royale, Gatz talked about Rebecca's fighting style, where she didn't hurt opponents directly but made them fall out of the ring. He mentioned that her moves were graceful, and he actually liked her. Gatz wondered how Rebecca would do against strong fighters from other countries, like Rolling Logan.

He continued describing the Block D fights until all the well-known fighters were mysteriously knocked down almost instantly. Gatz eagerly awaited to see the last one standing and was surprised that it turned out to be Rebecca.

After the first round, Gatz announced the start of the finals and revealed that Diamante would be participating. When the finals began, Gatz enthusiastically shouted out Lucy's name as he (actually Sabo) entered the arena. As the finalists gathered, Gatz noticed three disqualified participants from Block D who refused to accept Rebecca as the winner, only to be beaten back by Diamante.

During the finals, Gatz provided the play-by-play and praised Lucy's agility as he dodged an attack by a Fighting Fish. He was later surprised when Rebecca tried to attack Diamante.

When the toys in the audience turned back to their original forms, Gatz was shocked to see Lucy (actually Sabo) destroying the arena with bare hands. While the crowd ran away, Gatz announced Lucy as the winner after grabbing the Mera Mera no Mi and gaining its power.

When Doflamingo unleashed the Birdcage and was almost defeated by Luffy, Gatz and the other gladiators from the Colosseum helped the pirate, recognizing him as Lucy. A tired Luffy asked Gatz for 10 minutes to recover, and Gatz took him to safety. They were attacked by Burgess but saved when Sabo kicked Burgess away.

Gatz was surprised to discover that Sabo and Luffy were brothers. He realized Sabo was the Lucy from the Colosseum finals after seeing him use the Mera Mera no Mi. With Sabo holding off Burgess, Gatz carried Luffy far away from both Burgess and Doflamingo. While running, he learned that Luffy and Sabo had switched places.

Although he noted it was against the rules, he expressed happiness that they won a memento of their late brother. When Doflamingo sped up the Birdcage's shrinking, Gatz wondered if they would make it out safely. Later, Gatz encountered Trafalgar Law, who used his powers to teleport to their location. Law asked Gatz to leave Luffy with him, and Gatz agreed.

Gatz climbed up the palace mountain and spoke to the people of Dressrosa, letting them know that Lucy was Luffy. He announced that Luffy would arrive in ten seconds to take down Doflamingo for good. To distract Doflamingo from Viola and Rebecca, Gatz taunted him, making Doflamingo angry and causing him to stab Gatz with a sheet of string. Despite being hurt, Gatz still believed in Luffy.

When Luffy finally stood up again, Gatz cheered joyfully and informed Dressrosa about his return. He then watched Luffy's fight from a distance. After Luffy defeated Doflamingo and brought down the Birdcage, Gatz cried tears of joy as he proudly announced Luffy's victory to Dressrosa.

Three days after Doflamingo's defeat, Gatz happily told Dressrosa about Riku Doldo III returning to the throne. When he heard that Luffy had taken Rebecca from the palace, he was surprised but exclaimed that he still liked him.

After Luffy and his group escaped the Marines, Gatz joined the celebrations with the other people of Dressrosa.

Gatz’s Relationships

Donquixote Doflamingo:

Initially, Gatz showed great respect for Doflamingo, referring to him as "his majesty" like most citizens of Dressrosa. However, his attitude changed when Doflamingo revealed his true colors and attempted to harm everyone on the island. Gatz lost his reverence for Doflamingo and openly criticized and taunted him during the final phase of the Birdcage game, even calling him a false ruler. This defiance led to Doflamingo stabbing Gatz in anger.

Corrida Colosseum Participants:

Bellamy:

Like many in the Colosseum's audience, Gatz is a fan of Bellamy and sees him as a hero of Dressrosa.

Hack:

Gatz is a fan of Hack, the fish man who aimed to stop Bartolomeo's disrespectful behavior. Gatz was shocked when Hack got injured during the tournament.

Bartolomeo

Contrary to the audience, Gatz dislikes Bartolomeo and considers his behavior disrespectful to the tournament.

Monkey D. Luffy

Gatz quickly liked Luffy when he was disguised as Lucy, describing him as a rising star. Gatz was disappointed when he thought Luffy was defeated by Hajrudin and cheered for him when he won. He even promised to protect Luffy from Doflamingo while his Haki recovered.

Gatz's respect for Luffy was significant, and he played a role in announcing Luffy's return and cheering for him during the fight against Doflamingo. Even after finding out Luffy's real name, Gatz and the citizens of Dressrosa continued to call him by his gladiator name "Lucy." Despite accusations against Luffy, Gatz proclaimed that he still liked him.

King Riku

Gatz's relationship with King Riku is not explicitly detailed in the provided information. However, during the events in Dressrosa, Gatz proudly announced King Riku's return to the throne three days after Doflamingo's downfall. This suggests that Gatz supports and respects King Riku, likely viewing him in a positive light.

Dressrosa Citizens

Gatz seems to share a strong connection with the citizens of Dressrosa. Initially, like many others, he referred to Doflamingo as "his majesty" but later turned against him when Doflamingo's true intentions were revealed. Gatz actively participated in events that impacted Dressrosa, such as assisting Luffy during the final phase of the Birdcage game.

He played a role in broadcasting important information to the people, including Luffy's return and victory. Despite knowing Luffy's real name, Gatz, along with the citizens, continued to refer to him by his gladiator name, "Lucy."

Gatz’s Personality

Gatz is a happy and energetic person. He really cares about his friends, especially fighters like Luffy. Even when things get tough, he stays positive and believes in the goodness of others. Gatz is not afraid to stand up for what's right, even when facing strong enemies. He's friendly, encouraging, and always excited about good news or celebrations.

Gatz, as the Colosseum commentator, has a job to be fair, but he still feels emotions during the fights. He was shocked when Hack lost and cheered for Lucy in another match. When he found out Sabo replaced Luffy in the finals, he thought it was against the rules. He really respects strong fighters, like Luffy, even if they're small. Gatz is selfless, promising to face Doflamingo to give Luffy time.

Despite commenting on Luffy and Sabo breaking the rules, he was happy they won since it meant a lot to their late brother, Ace. He even risked himself to protect Rebecca and Viola. Gatz is honorable, too, not wanting anyone to fight if they're not well, even if it means facing big problems. In simple terms, he's emotional, respectful of strength, selfless, and honorable.

Gatz’s Appearance

Gatz looks like a Spartan warrior. He wears a golden helmet with a big dark-colored feather and a golden chest plate with a dark skirt. He has long brown hair halfway down his back, a cape, and a black goatee.

Gatz’s Abilities

Gatz doesn't possess any extraordinary abilities or powers in terms of combat. He is primarily a commentator in the Corrida Colosseum, and his strength lies in his communication skills and resilience. Gatz showed courage when facing danger, such as taunting Doflamingo to distract him and later enduring an attack from the Shichibukai. While he may not be a powerful fighter, his determination and willingness to stand up for what's right make him a notable character in the events of Dressrosa.
